Smile RDX Factory Service Manual Requests

Hi all,

If you need any factory service manual data, please ask here and I will upload them.
Having all the service manual data in one location helps all users on this forum to locate them easily.

If you need other vehicles, I can fulfill your request but it may take a while. I will do this for other Acura vehicles only and on a limited basis.
Hope you understand, this is the second generation RDX forum.

Thank You

Dave:

I am thanking you in advance for taking the trouble to do this. Every time you post an excerpt it gets saved.

Maybe post a link to a publicly accessible read-only folder in your google drive?

Many Thanks.

You're welcome in advance.

Most of the time, I look them up in the manuals and print them to PDF.

Thanks

Hello hifi9,

I do not have the entire manual for 2013-2018 RDX. I have access to the data and I will look it up the task for you and post it here as a pdf.

Thank You.

Dave,
Thanks or helping us all out.
I don't know if you can access wiring schematic diagrams, but I wrestled with finding an appropriate switched circuit in the driver's side fuse panel to tap into to power my dashcam on my 2017 Advance. Fuses that I thought would have been switched (like the power outlets) had fuses that were hot at all times. I eventually found a switched fuse by trial and error, but I would appreciate to know more about the circuits under there, so please post those wiring diagrams if you are able.

Thanks again!
Frank

Hi Frank,

You're Welcome and happy to help out here.
My car is a 2018 RDX Advanced and I installed my dash cam using fuse taps. I used empty fuse slots to find switched and hot power.

Attached is the wiring for power distribution.

Hi Dave
Can you provide the transmission service information for a 2018 RDX?. The dealer does a flush for 339 bucks. He wasn't sure what the service manual says about this service.
Thanks

Hi Dave
Thanks!
The dealer doesn't do this procedure. They do a flush through the transmission cooler lines. It seams to be the industry standard now a days. Why don't they follow the procedure outlines hear?

I noticed the "Conventional Brake Bleeding Procedure" above.

Is there a procedure where I can activate the ABS system and flush fresh brake fluid through it?

Hello Tech

There is nothing in the service manuals about activating bleeding the ABS / VSA. I hooked up my Honda HDS to my vehicle and there is a functional test for operating the VSA for each wheel spool and it activates the pump.

The only industry that is standard in is quickly lube places, I have never heard of a dealer doing that. If you want to perform a complete fluid replacement, just have a normal drain & fill three times a week apart. Heck each of the next three oil changes would probably be enough unless you have symptoms you feel a need to address. If that is the case, the dealer should be sending a software snapshot to Honda and probably updating the software and doing the 3X fluid change for free. See this service bulletin:

The Honda dealer and the Acura dealer I deal with both do the flush through the transmission cooler lines. I also checked with 2 independent automotive shops that do the same. I have a friend who works for a state automotive consumer agency who said the flush has become an industry standard. Beats me. I have no issues with my RDX 2018 transmission except that it has always seamed to be a little rough in some upshifts. I just want a transmission service because the dealer said it was time. He said B 3 showed up on my maintenance minder. It has 28k miles. I'm no transmission service expert but 28k on a transmission service seems a little early. I now follow the maintenance minder myself to confirm that the service writer isn't trying to up sale me. I'll probably end up doing the trans drain 3x myself like on my Harley. Thanks.

That #3 trans service indicator is for a normal drain & fill, not a flush. The flush (a term that should not really ever be used for a Honda automatic) is only done for issues as noted in the service bulletin.
The normal drain & fill on these transmissions used to be every 45k, but Honda has wisely decided that every 30k is more appropriate. The MID just times that by setting a code C every fourth oil change.
Honda mechanics have been doing every other oil change on their own cars forever. While changing through the cooler lines, using the transmissions own pump will not damage anything
(unlike a powered fluid change machine that can be used on american cars) it does not get fluid out of all the places in the trans or remove stuff in the bottom. The drain plug has a magnet and should be cleaned off, a fresh crush washer used, and torqued to spec. If you are going to dyi, I suggest refilling through the dipstick hole. That is done with a funnel and a short piece of clear vinyl hose (3/8" I think) refill will be slower this way, but you don't have to remove all the stuff to get to the fill port. Once again, a full fluid replacement is not necessary and the code C does not call for that. You will need just over 3 quarts of fluid. If you think you will be doing this more, try pricing a case from a Honda dealer. They often match online prices. The street price of honda DW1 is $8.50

Apologies to Dave for hijacking his service manual thread. There are transmission specific threads in the maintenance sections above.

Why are Honda automatics not like any other? See this article:

This thread is amazing. Thanks for the help dave!

would you happen to have a service/maintenance schedule for a 2016 rdx? I bought it used at 30,000km and have done brakes and most fluids at 100,000km. I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything

Owner's manuals for Canadian owners can be accessed here:

https://www.acura.ca/owners/my-acura

There is no schedule exactly, once the oil life reaches 15%, the MID (multi information display) will set codes for needed services. So, beside oil changes and tire rotations, the first additional
codes will be set at the 4th oil change or close to 50,000km (30,000 miles) Those are engine & cabin filter changes and the trans fluid drain & fill. That repeats until about 170,000km (105,000 miles)
When the full timing belt, spark plugs and, while not technically due yet, the coolant is replaced.

For US residents, this is the owner's site link: https://owners.acura.com/

Hello Tim,
Congrats on your new RDX. You follow the MID and the vehicle will tell you what to do for each service. The Acura calculates when the service is due according to how the vehicle is driven.
Look at post # 17 for the service manual on timing belt replacement.

The decision if you should try changing the belt is up to you and how comfortable you are doing the job. The only thing I have not done on a vehicle is overhauling a CVT transmission, waiting for an opportunity to arise.
