Apple: Hardware News and Discussion Thread
I could care less about the ipad mini but I've been waiting for the 13" Retina MBP since the 15" came out. I'll be checking them out at the store this weekend, and since I've already set the money aside, probably buying one if it's in stock. I'm guessing it'll be the i7 2.9GHz variant.
Anyone interested in a late 2010 MBA? :-p

I have been denied by Best Buy on returning my iPad 3 by 2 weeks
Lesson: buy from as Apple as customer support said they would have done the exchange for me.

why the system menus and apps take AGES to launch.opening system preferences should really not take like 10-15 seconds to load.

I think the $600 price tags on the mini's aren't really that bad. They can scream with a SSD. As for the server graphics, meh, it's a server. It runs and that's about it. Hell if I had my choice all our mini servers here would be running centos. Lol
Yep, call me crazy or old, but I can't get into the games on ps3 anymore. I don't play them enough to get good and simply loose interest because some of them are pretty hard. I put in maybe 10hrs into call of duty before I lost interest, nhl11 maybe 2 hours. Grand turismo is the only one that I could say i've put in 20+. On my iphone i've probably played tiger woods 2011 for 40+hours and have had it way less time. same as flight control and others, they are entertaining time wasters not serious FPS etc.
ahhh i see. I guess its understandable. I havent played games on my xbox in a while, partly cause i dont wanna bring it to college and get distracted. But I've never had a game on a phone that I've played so much. In a week i'd be over it. Only words with friends and scramble has lasted, but then that too got old.
And its not that android has any good games, i used to have an iphone too, and my dad has a bunch of games on his ipad. But i dont play these games more than 10 minutes at a time now. And its mostly when i'm on the toilet
but that sometimes gets taken over with my magazine or i just read news on my phone.
everyones different i guess.

Apple U.S. Returns & Refunds Policy:
There are a few important things to keep in mind when returning a product you purchased from the U.S. Apple Online Store:
You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it. For an Apple iPhone, you have 30 calendar days.
Only items that have been purchased directly from Apple, either through the Apple Online Store or at an Apple Retail Store, can be returned to Apple. Apple products purchased through other retailers must be returned in accordance with their respective returns and refunds policy.
Please ensure that the item you're returning is repackaged with all the cords, adapters and documentation that were included when you received it.
There are some items, however, that are ineligible for return, including:
Opened software*
Electronic Software Downloads
Software Up-to-Date Program Products (software upgrades)
Apple Gift Cards
Apple Developer Connection Products (Membership and Technical Support)
Apple Print Products
*You can return software, provided that it has not been installed on any computer. Software that contains a printed software license may not be returned if the seal or sticker on the software media packaging is broken.

I'm looking at it in comparison to a $1,199 13" base MBP because that's basically what it is, sans mouse, keyboard, SuperDrive, monitor, FaceTime HD camera, battery, and portability.
If you compare it to a Windows-based PC, value is even worse. But since that's like comparing Apples to oranges, I won't.

That's overkill for what I need and 256GB is just going to sit there unused. I really need a small SSD. Maybe an Intel 40GB if they still make them. All the disk that is in the mini is primarily used to boot, run carbon copy cloner and all the mountain lion server tasks, logs, etc.

Microcenter was selling 120GB Vertex 3s for $70 here yesterday.
And I meant the price tag for the mini isn't bad, in the Apple universe.
We all know we pay a premium for these products. Gotta pay to play.

So from the looks of it... Buy all the ram you need. Replace HDD as you wish (as long as it's thin enough).

Says the RAM is soldered in...you'll forever have 8GB.
And the drive....at they time they hadnt tested ultra thin drives...but they "hoped" they would fit.
And its a 2 out of 10 to repair....To even get to the SSD is a giant bitch and a half.
I take apart macs all the time. If it takes two hours, it takes two hours.
And I just said you're stuck with the ram so buy it up front.
But there is no reason the SSD can't be replaced. They stated themselves they have two other drives that are shallower that will likely work. I expect they will. The point is, it's not soldered onto the board. So it's user replaceable. Albeit difficult to do.

I take them apart, too. Just replaced the HDD in my iMac....doesnt mean I want to do it all the time. And retina...rather not fuck with it if I dont have to.
But the HDD is REPLACEABLE!! I was specifically told earlier in this thread that it's NOT. THAT WAS WRONG.
I don't give a flying fuck if you're too lazy to take apart your MBP. I'm simply saying IT'S DOABLE.
You bitch about the price of the large SSD. You have an option NOW yet STILL COMPLAIN.
I swear it's like talking to my wife.
Dude! I fucking get that the ram is order, done, no more! That's what I said! Order what you want NOW.

You keep saying order the ram you want, order you want. Im simply saying all you get is 8GB...period.
calm down Sally. Also, im not going to order a new laptop and void my applecare right away by replacing the SSD.
