If you end up with either the 4 or the 5, that would be a HUGE upgrade over the original. Even the series 3 was a huge upgrade over my original
im pretty satisfied with how much quicker apps load and how much smoother the OS runs.
i also get about 48 hours of use before the battery is at like 3%, but I still charge it every night.
with the original I couldn’t even make it thru a day.

I'm taking the 4...the 5 is gold, no thanks, haha.
I'm actually weary of the always on display. After 5 years my current watch has some screen burn in. And I reallllly dont like gold. So, its not worth the extra money to me.
@Costco Do you have any suggestions for mechanical keyboards with the Mac buttons and short cuts? (command, option, mission control, launch pad etc)
Preferably with the numpad since I use that way often.
I'm currently using the Apple Aluminum keyboard w/ numpad, but I kind of want to go back to a mechanical clickity clack style

Tbh, my setup is a little weird but it's great for me. Fast and very low RSI stress.
I'm using a vortex vibe. Layout is kind of annoying if you need both the arrow keys and numpad, but not a problem if you don't use the arrow keys or home cluster. I use the gestures on a magic trackpad for mission control, switching apps, etc. You can remap the functions of the cmd, option, and control. keys in settings (I swapped cmd and control)
The features you're looking for (Mac media keys, 10-key) aren't that popular among mech KBs, and both of them together, even less so. Good luck. Some people in slack mentioned the Keychron K1, but it has multiple revisions, with mixed reviews. Maybe you can find similar keyboards from there.
As an aside, I absolutely can't stand the butterfly keyboards.
yea, I was not a fan of the butterfly keyboard. not even sure how much I like the Magic keyboard with the lower travel distance compared to my older Apple wired keyboard.
I was looking at the Keychron K1 as well. They're on version 4 right now i think. But im so confused on the key color options. wtf is red blue and brown?
And honestly I never use the arrow keys so I wouldnt mind getting rid of those. And I gave up on using a trackpad, switched back to a Logitech G703.
What mechanical keyboard did you have before? Do you remember which switches? If they're Cherry MX, red = linear, blue = clicky, brown = tactile. One of those things you need to try to determine your preferences.
I use MX Clears. Very tactile, they're basically browns with a lot more feedback. If you're typing very quickly, you don't feel the tactility of browns. Clears are not much louder than a standard keyboard, though I don't mash my keys.
Clicky switches are tactile as well, but with very noticeable audio feedback. They're unusable in a work environment, unless you have your own office.
Your best bet is something with the media keys, but again, that with the 10-key is going to limit your options. The K1 is the only one mentioned that has both.
Ohh i should've worded it better, I never had a mechanical keyboard. Just a standard M$ keyboard that makes more clicky noises compared to a chiclet style keyboard the apple keyboard i use has.
I did use those old style mechanical keyboard back in the 90s with my parents IBM PC compatible computer.
I'll look in to the K1. Sounds like thats my only option.

A guide from WASD - I would focus on the switch comparison for now. You can even build your own keyboard. The V3 might work for you, the smaller CODE keyboard has a switch to go into Mac mode.
Switches really are personal preference. Owned keyboards with MX Blue, Brown, and now Clear. Tried Reds.
Blue = high pitched click, satisfying at first. Grating for me now.
Brown = tactile bump is not noticeable enough, kind of scratchy feeling. Don't like them
Reds = not bad, not great either.
Should last you forever, too. First mech is still usable, but I retired it after 8 years. Those older IBM ones are tanks, and probably still solid even today.
Any chance the Intel macs will get refreshed or is it all about the ARM?
Event will be about refreshed Intel-based Macs. Then at the end of the event, Tim Cook will be "Oh, and one more thing. Today we're also introducing a new ARM-based Mac."
Apple will remove the touch bar on the refreshed Intel-based MacBooks
I'm honestly not all that interested in Apple silicon macs. At least not their 1st generation products.
I've come to peace with it. Not sure if I'll get the first iteration, maybe I'll wait until 2nd gen. We'll see, my MBP is on its last legs though, the battery needs to be replaced but that is a 2-3 hour project

They said they still have Intel macs in the pipeline.
And then there is this. https://www.macrumors.com/2020/10/26...pro-boot-camp/
Apple references a 2020 16 inch MacBook Pro in bootcamp.
And no, the 5600M graphics card update does not make it a 2020 model.
Its the same with the 2018 Mac Mini. They only updated the base storage earlier this year, but "About this Mac" says its a 2018.

Depending on what they announce, i may interested in MBA style laptop for something portable.
I just got an i7 Mac Mini and that should be plenty to last me until Apple pulls the plug on Intel support.
So rumors are saying a 13" MBA 13" MBP and 16" MBP.
I personally don't think they all will have Apple Silicon thou.
I think Tim Apple is making a statement. By putting it in the 16" MBP he is saying that Apple Silicon ain't no joke and he's putting that bitch in everything.
