For the first time since I ditched my 3GS, I considered an iPhone - the 6. The small screens since the 4 have been an absolute deal breaker. It was a compelling choice.
Still, pending any big surprises, I'm most likely going to get an Xperia Z3. Should I be worried about having a 32-bit processor regarding Android L?
No Longer Living On The Edge (Samsung Note Edge LIE)
One device we’re not likely to see from the IFA line-up is Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge. This used the specs and basic design of the Galaxy Note 4, but curved the screen around the right-hand edge to create a programmable ‘spine’ on the phablet. PC World reports that Samsung will only be making the Note Edge available in very low quantities, as it is ‘a limited edition concept device’ that will go on sale in South Korea and that’s about it.
I can’t help feeling that Samsung presented this device in Berlin as if it was going to be a major device - now I feel cheated. The one device that appeared to push Samsung out of its comfort zone was nothing of the sort. It was a mad idea that was going to go back into a box as quickly as possible after it received a bit of press coverage.
I went into the AT&T store for the first time in forever to see if I could put hands on an X. The thing is much lighter than I anticipated. I wish I could have gotten a good feel for the fit, but as you know they like to put Fort Knox on the back of each of their floor phones. Screen was really good, very comparable to my M7, which is the best I've ever had. Camera was better than I thought, but of course that is a well lit store. Pretty fast focusing. Wanted to compare to the G3, which I've had hands-on time with already, but I don't even remember seeing it. The soft back, which I got, feels really good. Enough grip. Bamboo and leather weren't on display
The S5, which I had yet to handle, feels like ass. The Galaxy Alpha, though, was super fine. If that's the template for the S6, these other guys are in deep shit. Screen was good even for 720p, didn't feel like a huge knock at all. Make the Alpha in S5 size and options, and you've got a fantastic phone, even with TW.
I was surprised how close in size the Note 3 was to my M7. I could see myself with a Note, for sure. I'd have to bury TW as deep as possible, though. The M8 I hadn't held in awhile, I was reminded with it and mine how much space those bezels and fake screen takes up.
Never got hands on with the new iPhones, some preteens kept wanting to take selfies.
I'm still impatient for my X to get here, but my frustration has subsided a bit. I'm excited again.
Even if you are on a standard contract, you might come out the same or better with a share plan. YMMV. Yes, I know, it's hard to give up unlimited. Been there, done that.
One more note from the store: Beginning with either the X or whatever else, I'll never buy another carrier-branded phone ever again. The amount of bloat, the branding and the forced use of AT&T Wifi are deal breakers.
I'm just not happy with Samsung for lying since now Note Edge is going from a limited sale to only to be sold in South Korea... I guess Note 4 is my next phone.

It's probably still too costly and/or difficult to manufacture on a mass scale.
Stogie, how did you know it was expiring soon? I'll likely buy a book
Went to BB and they had the Note 4 and the Edge. The Note 4 is A worthy predecessor of my Note 2. The Edge is pretty cool if you're a righty but the side bar thing is gimmicky IMO. I'd rather go with the Note 4. I didn't ask if they were going to actually sell the Edge but I heard the kid saying they were taking pre-orders for the Note 4.
Contacts, apps get backed up to your Google account wirelessly. Just set up a Gmail and whenever you save contacts make sure it backs up to your Google account. Once you link/re-link your Google account to your old phone or a new phone, your contacts will sync to your phone. Plus you can go into your Gmail on a desktop to view them. Same with calendars as well as apps. You'll have to re-download apps manually (I believe) but I used an app called Helium to save my app data, texts, downloads. With that you basically have your phone running as before and your Candy Crush and Angry Birds levels passed are there.
Actually I made the mistake of putting my gmail into my daughter's prepaid phone so she can play games. Google images synced to it (forgot to turn off photo sync on my own phone). I normally don't keep noodz on my phone. That's what Dropbox is for. But I left off a huge tit bikini pic from this chick I used to bang. Thank God it was that one pic. But you can control what syncs via settings.

Really liking the new Moto X. This is my first experience with near stock since my Touchpad (CM) and my ROM'ed S3. It does make me appreciate the fairly light and helpful skin that Sense offers, especially 6. Having to get used to the multitask/cards button being where I'm used to the Home button being.
Hardware feels fantastic in the hand. The curve is perfect. The screen is pretty damn good, near to what the M7 is. Touchless display is really cool, but I'm either going to have to find a different place to put my phone in the car, or deactivate while driving. Every time I shift the phone lights up. Might go with a ProClip.
Haven't had a real opportunity to test the battery or camera yet. I'm not expecting much out of the latter.
Battery will probably be the determining factor. I will say that with my Touchpad charger, the X charges faster than the M7, so that's nice. M7 takes about 1:45-2:00 to charge a percentage point, the X was :38-1:10 on the few times I've done it. The turbo charger might not be mandatory, but I'll wait and see if that changes after a few cycles.

Nice, good to hear. I'm telling my brother to get the new moto x.
I would tell him to stick with the standard backs. Seems like while the leather and wood options are really nice, there's some QA issues with them right now. Wood backs are peeling up, as are some leather. Already seeing some remorse returns with the leather as well.
