Yeah, not TOO big...so, given what you listed, S4 over the Xperias?

Her contract is also up and so, we have the option of going after either the Sammy Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z, or Xperia ZL (the Z1 has no announcement for Canada). So, of the 3, which would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!
Have her go and try them all out in her hands. The Xperia Z is water and dust resistant with dragon tail glass, so very durable, but the ZL isn't water and dust resistant. If she doesn't need all that protection, then the real difference is just that the ZL is smaller with the same specs as the Z but instead of a glass back, it has a polycarbonate textured back. Is the Moto X available on your carrier? Pretty sure she'll love that. If all else fails, then get the S4. The Xperia Z is okay, but the Z1 is a ton better if you and her can just wait it out a month or 2 to arrive.

What are the main things she uses her phone for?

Thanks for the input, dude.

Wait...I thought the ZL was essentially the Z except, smaller and a bit less pricey. So, do I have it mixed up or do you (and honestly, it's easy with all the Z-type phones by Sony).

The Moto X is indeed available up here and I'll ask her to test drive one at Best Buy tomorrow. Z1 has no announcement and it may be close to December when it hits Canadian shelves and her contract is up and so, she'd prefer to get a better monthly rate and a better phone (no offence, iPhone! ).

Lol yeah...... I realized that and edited it. You read it too quick lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Canada still let you pay monthly once your contract is up? I mean if you want to wait it out, couldn't you just continue the same payment for a month or 2 until the Z1 becomes official?

But go try out the Moto X anyways. Just sucks you can't use Moto Maker.

Hahaha...well, to be frank, a cellphone is a cellphone. So, while market-new is nice (i.e. the Z1), we aren't going to wait per se since, Samsung may as well announce the S5 or something right after. Tis the market...

As well, my wife is honestly fed up with her iPhone and wants a new phone. As hard as it may be to believe, she actually thinks it sucks after trying out my S3.

So, we got some time tomorrow and with her contract up, she'd prefer to walk out of the store tomorrow with a new phone. So, it's kinda between the S4, ZL, or Z. Essentially, I think it is a toss-up between the Z and the S4. Where one is glass and water-proof, the other has faster guts and a bit more functionality. Would my wife care about extra functionality and slightly faster speed? The advantage of the Sammy is that it can integrate nicely with our TV since it is a Samsung as well. Still, not sure if that's a show-stopper for her. The Sony, she can use at the pool when she takes Little T swimming...

But, keep the advice coming! Appreciate all recommendations.

Yeah, the whole Samsung products in your household integration might be a reason to go with the S4.

As for the Z vs. ZL...... if she doesn't need the water/dust proof stuff and likes a more compact phone with the same specs, the ZL would be the choice.

I only suggested the Moto X because of the size (smaller than the ZL and only a teeny bit bigger than the iphone), but still packs a wallop. It's got better battery life than the other 3, and the smart notifications is awesome. And I believe it has an easier UI learning curve (but you might be able to teach her the S4's UI faster since you own the S3).

Anyhow, after spending time playing significantly with the Moto X, S4, and Xperia Z, the wife actually picked the Z...yeah, the older product.

And no, I did not sway her (no snickering about my "love" for Sony, please). She just really liked the heft of the Xperia, glass surface, and the camera. The speed did not seem to be an issue for her.

Aww the glass Would've rec the Nexus 4, but knew you were looking for cheap carrier tied deals. The Z isn't a bad phone though. As long as she's happy......happy wife, happy life.

Out of curiosity, what were her thoughts on the other 2 phones?

I tried to tell the Apple guys that my wife wouldn't care for the 5s because she wouldn't know the difference in speed or whatever... i think they took it as trolling, but some people (women and parents) just don't care or look for other reasons to like a phone.

Actually, the Z is still a $$$ monthly plan. The cheaper deals are for the S3 and similar.

She liked the Sammy 4 but ultimately, thought the camera on the Xperia Z was better. And what is important for her is that she has something she can quickly snag a pic of our son with. The fact that it was waterproof also really was a seller since well, she may take him to the pool and a quick dunk in water won't kill the phone.

And given the 2 choices (S4 and Z), the Z was slightly cheaper and so, she took that. Plans-wise, both cost the same. Canadian cell carriers am the suck.

You know, a very devoted Appler would never believe me, but my wife has been marveling how great her Z is since she's had it. She can't believe what she's been missing with using the iPhone all these years.

The multi-tasking, integration with Google just has her giggling. And oh, no iTunes. She HATED iTunes with a passion.

Nope, I didn't influence her...actually, I TOLD her to buy the iPhone since I thought she would like it more. She actually jokingly accused me of forcing her to get an inferior product after playing with her Z the last 2 days. Yeah, she really likes the Android platform. So, go figure...

Good for you, having a wife that's so open minded. My wife loves her iPhone still, and I'm not about to tell her otherwise, especially since she's happy.

Thats interesting haha, I usually suggest the iPhones to people who aren't good with tech just cause of the ease of use. Maybe things are changing

Nova, Holo, and Apex are generally the top/smoothest and carry stock appeal.

There are others that go into crazier things, if you want it.

I signed up for Aviate beta (haven't received a code yet) but this launcher seems interesting enough to try out, when I'm able to.

I still can't understand how ease of use and iTunes is in the same sentence. It's so much easier to drag and drop. Windows opens the a direct link to your folders in your phone when you plug in the USB for christ's sake. Oh you want to load songs/videos/anything into your iPhone? Load this annoyingly slow, RAM sucking, program on your computer first.

Yeah, everything you say to them that isn't infused with fruit love is immediately taken as trolling and they accuse you of blind hatred. Hypocrites. The best ones are when they say they are a lover of all technology, but really don't know jack about anything outside of Apple slideshows.

Yea iTunes does suck, but if you tell it to manually manage music, you can drag and drop.

I never said you were...

I am seriously considering the note 4 mainly because of the bigger screen.

All I use my phone for is surfing the net and porn.

This is the upcoming Oppo N1. Anyone else think it looks like the new Nexus?

That trip by Oppo to Google HQ must really have paid off.

They're a chinese company. Did you think they would have their own design?

saying this and I'm not even sure if they are a chinese company

Actually, all the phone leaks are due to Googlers being drunk and leaving their phones in random bars. So, not LG's fault. LG actually has been very tight lipped and good about keeping their Nexus production secret.....sometimes too secret even after launch.

Oppo is a Chinese company, but they have some of the best original designs out there for phones. Look them up. I was thinking more along the lines of Google loving their designs and bringing them over. The Oppo N1 actually looks just like the Nexus 4 prototype that leaked out before the N4 launch last year.

I've got a good feeling that the 6th or 7th Nexus phone will be by a Chinese company.

Anyone get the new Google Wallet app? Got it on my HTC One but its still rolling out for my Nexus 7:

http://googlecommerce.blogspot.com/2...l-android.html

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...m_campaign=app

The new UI is pretty nice and now you can send money to other people via GMail. Too bad NFC payment is still limited to certain devices. Stupid carrier restrictions.
