I have echoed my issues with battery life on my P6. Software has certainly improved it over the last two years but by the time I'm going to bed and plugging it in, the battery is under 20%.
I never got around yet to putting in a request for replacement due to the battery life as I have been working from home almost all the time right now during the holidays. On wifi which is when it is at its best I have been able to get by so it has not been as large of a concern. Then this weekend I finally got the December update. From everything I can find there is nothing in it related officially to battery life. I am getting over a day worth of use right now. My screen time use is down a little compared to normal. 3-4hrs maybe right now as opposed to 5-7hrs. Been on the phone a lot more though with 2.5-3.5hrs of calls daily this week. I had over a day of battery the last two days. We will see if it keeps up.
hey guys... so, I need to make a call to Taiwan, and use WiFi calling... it's an option on my phone (as is on most phones, it's more whether your carrier allows it or not), but when I turn it on, it says "Mobile network preferred" and the symbol indicating you're on WiFi calling isn't there, which is suppose to be this:
one site says to put your phone on airplane mode but keep WiFi on, then you'll be able to make calls... but my phone won't let me, tells me to "turn off airplane mode off to make calls"
Well ended up with a P9PXL and absolutely love it. In every way it is the most complete Android phone I have ever used. From the quality of the OS with I still believe that the Pixel flavor of Android is the best at this point to hardware that finally rivals the quality of Apple. It just seems like the complete package. Battery life has been amazing and so far the little I have been outside of the house the reception has been much better than my P8P which was still an issue. The one negative I have about it so far is that Bluetooth range seems substantially worse that my P8P. I used to be able to leave my phone in my office and go to either my living room or the kitchen roughly 30-35ft away max 1-2 walls and still use my headset. I can no longer do this. Doesn't seem I can get more than 15-20ft away from the phone before issues start. Hopefully, this will be better with the Pixel Buds 2 when I get those as I don't like that step back but I guess the other two improvements might be worth the trade off.
I'm definitely feeling upgrade burnout this year, but I might look for the P10P next year if the battery improves. The biggest disappointment I have/had with P7P and P8P was the battery.
BTW, can confirm the P8P Bluetooth is incredible. Range is fantastic.
I wanted to upgrade but got a free P6 replacement because my screen was coming off which was auto-RMA'ed. Glad to see the 9 is an improvement from the 7 and 8.
so, long story short... I'm American, living in Vancouver BC... with what's been going on, I don't plan on crossing the border any time soon... well, I will be going down in late summer or early fall to deal with some family stuff. I want to get a burner phone because apparently they are checking people's phones upon entering the US and supposedly if you have any anti-Trump stuff (texts, social media posts.... etc etc), they are giving people shit or denying their entry... yes, even with Americans living abroad.
So, what's something good in the used market as a burner phone? I was thinking of something in the Pixel 7 series... I like big phones and I DO enjoy a nice screen for watching movies/YouTube etc etc, I don't game or do anything that requires heavy processing... and I hate phones with super rounded corners, so maybe a used Pixel 7 Pro?
As I've mentioned in this thread several years ago, I was a relatively early adopter of the Pixel 6 line (I have a 6 Pro which replaced my Pixel 3 XL), so yeah, the phone is getting a little long in the tooth. I had been planning on upgrading to a Pixel 9 Pro XL this spring, but, hey, I got busy. Then in March a Googler I've worked with off and on for about three years reached out to me and asked if I'd like to apply for a gig with Google; "ummm, hell yeah!" I started interviewing in late March, and due to trade shows, vacations, an interview which went off the rails (not necessarily in a bad way) necessitating an additional interview, and then the inevitable internal shufflings most large corporations go through on a periodic basis, I didn't get an offer until late June. While I was still in the interview process I reached out to my contact and asked if there would be any benefit if I waited to upgrade my phone until after I found out whether I was going to be offered a job or not. His response was something like, "Hell yeah!"
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I became a Noogler (New Googler), and on my first day the Pixel 10 was announced, so I'll be holding off on ordering my new phone until 20-Aug. I'll keep y'all posted.
Whole lotta meh in the new phone tbh. I see no reason to move from the P9PXL.
I've never seen a compelling benefit from moving from one Pixel generation to the next, but when I moved from the Pixel 3 XL to the Pixel 6 Pro, it was a significant upgrade. Today I set up my new Pixel 10 Pro XL and am pretty happy so far, and I still have a lot to learn.
The 6 Pro is on the left, the 10 Pro XL is on the right; both are in cases, and as you can see, the 10 is ever so slightly smaller than the 6.
