Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Me too. No fix yet. It's sounds like it's excessive vibration when washing heavy bedding or water-resistant clothes which could cause the machine to break apart...not exactly explode.

Well since the Play Store is out of stock of all 128gb Pixel XL I am debating on going the Verizon route since they announced yesterday by both Verizon and confirmed by Google that the Verizon edition would indeed receive updates at the same time as the Play Store addition. I have been reading that I can upgrade and not lose my unlimited data plan as long as I use a phone payment plan as my upgrade choice. Anyone see any reason not to do it besides the possible outcome of it really not being updated on time? If I do it through Verizon I should get the phone by the 20th. Who knows when I will get it if I wait for it to be in stock from Google.

Just wait for some real life reviews.

I have my self in my own "love new tech" loop. I went from my S4, to HTC M8, to Nexus 6 and I had done of those phones longer than 9 moths. I have been better lately getting about a year and 1-2 months out of each phone since then. I used to build new computers and stuff a lot but switched over to mobile tech cause at least in my case I use my phone more than any other device if you count hours of use per year. Only thing that exceeds it is my work computer obviously. But yeah at this point I will probably at least wait till next Thursday when they should be in Verizon stores and I can see one in person to decide which color. Although I am leaning towards the black one now.

Give that a shot with the waitlist if you haven't yet.
IF you go through Verizon and want to keep the unlimited data, I'd recommend buying it outright and again, not giving them the chance to fuck it up.

Verizon version will also have a locked bootloader, so no rooting... if you care about that. This is a step back from when Verizon sold their version of Nexus and Nexus 6 with unlockable bootloaders.
Verizon version will also have their pre-loaded crap apps. Who knows if they can be uninstalled or not.
The Best Buy version is even worse. It's locked to Verizon network while the Verizon and Google store versions are carrier unlocked.
If it were me, I'd wait for Google to get them back in stock and buy from them directly.
Did you configure it and then click to be notified when it's available?
Since it's all pre-order at this point; I'd bet there's a really good chance you'd be able to get in on it.

Wow, Note 7 is now banned from all US flights.

Yah Specs are nice, you know if it can be used with Sprint? i might get 1 for my gf for Christmas.
well it's my gf's. I can't even remember how many times i talked shit about her service already.
She has some kinda grandfather plan that she gets unlimited everything for $40. Although that is misleading since she can't use her phone half of the time
her response "did you see the commercial? we are only within 1% from Verizon"

GTA 5 Mod Video Showing Galaxy Note 7 As Bomb Has Been Pulled By Force From YouTube By Samsung Redmond Pie
Samsung Forced YouTube To Pull GTA 5 Mod Video Because It Showed Galaxy Note 7 As Bomb
October 20th, 2016
Samsung is understandably in a world of pain right now. When it should be taking time out to pat itself on the back for a successful year of flagship smartphone releases with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7, it is instead licking its wounds over what can only be described as a horrendous few weeks which culminated in not just one, but two different recalls of what was arguably the best Android device on the market at the time.
The Galaxy Note 7 wasn’t just recalled though, it was cancelled. For good. And that makes Samsung very cranky indeed.
So when YouTube user HitmanNiko created a video showing a Grand Theft Auto 5 mod in which Galaxy Note 7 handsets can be used as grenades, it’s perhaps somewhat understandable that someone inside Samsung took offence to the idea.
What’s incomprehensible though is the fact that Samsung has apparently set about trying to erase that video, and presumably others like it, from the Internet. The first step? Forcing YouTube to remove HitmanNiko’s video.
Trying to view the video now does nothing but display a message which says that the video is “no longer available due to a copyright claim by Samsung Electronics America” which leaves quite the bad taste in our mouths.
The biggest issue here is that this is arguably the worst misuse of the DMCA we have ever come across, simply because nothing was copied, unless Samsung is trying to claim that by making the in-game grenades look like Galaxy Note 7 smartphones then the video creator was in fact in breach of copyright.

Went to see the V20 demo in person.... left kinda disappointed, especially when the price is that high.
It just does not have the premium flagship phone feel to it when you have it in your hand.

update...the super affordable phone ($65) is compatible with my T-mobile plan, so I am really thinking hard about getting one... If I do not like it as a phone, i can l always use it for a 7" tablet to read my kindle books.. LOL
Depends on manufacturer and handset model. OnePlus has been pretty good with Android updates with their current line-up.
For example, OnePlus 2 was released in July 2015 with Android 5.1. It got Android 6 update 1 year later (July 2016).
OnePlus X was released in August 2015 with Android 5.1. It got Android 6 update 1 month ago (Sept. 2016).
OnePlus 3 was released in June 2016 with Android 6.
The company recently said that the OnePlus 3 will get Android 7 update by year end and the OnePlus 2 will get 7 about 1 month later. The X likely won't get it since it's their budget model.

HTC should be rolling out Android 7 updates for the following devices by year end too.
HTC 10
HTC One M10
HTC One M9
HTC One A9

Android 7.0 Nougat brings significant updates to phones relying on Google's mobile OS, and the commended OnePlus devices are no exception to that rule.
OnePlus recently announced to its customers that it plans to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat to its OnePlus 3 handset by the end of this year. The helm of the company, Pete Lau, confirmed that the Android 7.0 Nougat update will light up the screens of OnePlus 3 this Christmas.
Keep in mind that the OnePlus 3 phone came out carrying an out of the box Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and the company is determined to bring the latest mobile Google OS to the device. A tweet from Pete Lau shows the company working on having Nougat on its OnePlus 3 devices.
In a Reddit ask me anything session, OnePlus shared with its fans the fact that it is "actively working" to give them a piece of Nougat, as soon as possible.
According to reports, the OnePlus 2 will join the Nougat-laden devices one month after the update lands in the OnePlus 3. Confirmation about the OnePlus 2 receiving the update appeared in an interview that Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, had with XDA developers.
One notable absence from the company's promises of a sweeter OS future is the OnePlus X. No official news came about Android 7.0 Nougat landing on the device, but courageous users have an alternative. Those who are more tech savvy can load up CyanogenMod on their smartphones, which enables them to use Android 7.0 Nougat. However, keep in mind that the OS is not guaranteed to work without a glitch, so if you go for it on your OnePlus X, know that you are taking some stability risks.

Anyone with a nexus6 update to 7.0? I was waiting for OTA but haven't received it yet. I was thinking about downloading the full image and wiping everything, but surprised we can get an OTA image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota so we don't lose anything. Downloading now...

Isn't that like paying for service you can't use?
