Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
if both my batteries are doing it, it shouldnt work. I'll try it anyway. I also do leave wifi, gps, and sync on at all times of the day... I just don't want to be switching it on and off constantly
My main thing is there's just some app draining it. My phone's battery dies too quick on standby and looking at the graph my phones awake when my screen is not on a lot, I just dunno what app and I really dont wanna reformat.

wifi is a real battery drainer if left on.
it's always probing trying to maintain connection even if you aren't using it.
I use wifiwidget to turn it on/off when i feel like using it. Saves a ton of battery.
You want to use a program that can monitor 'wakelocks'. i personally use 'betterbatterystats' but there are others. wakelocks are what programs use to wake the phone up and burn cpu. They are generally the ones burning cpu when the screen isn't on.
If you're always going to be having stuff running (syncs can be real bad, if they aren't push syncs i.e. 'sync every 5 minutes'.) then you're going to kill your battery, regardless of what phone you have.
With the convenience of widgets/quick toggles, I generally leave stuff off unless i need it. I really don't like the idea of my phone bleeding battery when it's not actively being used. Seems pointless to me. I admit though, I'm also against my phone constantly bugging me for attention so I turn off notifications that are too distracting (like facebook).

Alright I went through and turned off a lot of notifications and updates I dont care for like fb, instagram, g+ notification. Auto backup for google+ and also noticed my haxsync app (downloads fb pics for phone contacts) I forgot to click download only on wifi and while charging. I also went through and disabled all the bloatware/samsung apps I dont use, which count to 34 of them... sheesh, but lets see how my phone is tomorrow

regardless of the battery life, I would disable the bloatware....
to make things worse, Samsung and ATT load it up with stupid things...thats the first thing I do, disable those puppies...
remember, the phone has to match your lifestyle, not the other way around....I suggest just reducing the brightness a little bit and going from there....

yeah I never set it as well....but i dont like it getting updates and always being in the memory....since you cant remove it (if you root it and get a custom rom, you wont have these) but if you are not rooted, the best is to follow the video

:nope:
no more update request etc....you wont even see them in the APPS screen....
you can re-enable them by going to Settings - More - Application Manager - All ....scroll all the way down, you can go in them and re-enable them.....
make sure you dont disable any system apps....

Played with the Mega at the ATT store. Lock button certainly felt cheap. Not sure if because it was the demo. Thankfully no case was on it like the Note 2's they display. Screen is obviously huge but I viewed a few clips on YouTube from Apple and a trailer for Robocop and they were really grainy. Not sure if the HQ option was selected but couldn't find the button for it. Or could be the extra inch and my face too close
The phone seemed to move ok speedwise. I opened up a ton of apps including Maps and it seemed to still run fast although there was a ton of memory available. I did see that it runs 4.2.2 while the Note 2 runs 4.1.2. Not sure how much of a difference it makes. Texting was a bitch one handed. If I'm holding it with my right hand and reach for the A, my palm presses the buttons on the right side of the keyboard. One handed mode might help but reaching to the top left with my right hand is an impossible task. I can't upgrade till next year but damn that phone big.

It works good for transferring music from iTunes. That's about it.

2300 mAh battery, hoping those 4 silver things are magnets like how Palm used to do with their wireless/inductive charging. And I'm leaning more towards this being a Nexus 4 (2013) refresh like the N7 than a N5. To me, looks like a slimmer N4 with matte back, LTE support, and ois camera.
Samsung is just terribly slow because I don't think they care much about products six months after they're released - they're already moving onto the next launch product and focus their R&D efforts there.
Is that a fingerpring sensor on the Nexus? Reminds me of when I used to have the Atrix!
After owning the Optimus G Pro, I'm sold on LG. Hope Tsxy is right about LTE support.

so I have heard brother....Verizon = no updates
I like ATT a tad bit better....better service and close to 25-30mbps download speed on LTE....plus their service was down for couple hours and I called in to check how much longer will it be down, she credited me full month of charges for me and the wifey (~155 bucks)...

The FCC filings you reference indicate a "G2" with changes to PCB and antenna layout. It has the same model # as the LG G2 on VZW but different pictures for the class II change (whatever that means). With that is the OIS camera, Snapdragon 800, larger 5" display, etc.
and to answer your other question, vzw is one of the better networks in socal in terms of reception.
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repor...cc_id=ZNFVS980
note the user manual is the LG G2, but internal and external photos show a new device. After all, it is the same as the G2 save for a few internal differences in component location.

Dude..... I know all the specs, etc... that was discovered. I was simply saying that I believe they will keep the Nexus 4 name, like they did with the N7, and not call it a Nexus 5.
As for the network question, socal is a huge place. If Vzw is the best in the area you live and travel frequently to, then stick with them, but if TMo or ATT is comparable or better, then maybe you can give them a try with a new phone. Don't know yet whether Vzw will let a Nexus phone on their LTE network even if the new Nexus has the radios, but ATT and TMo will.

Nexus phones are the gods of android phones
On a serious note, they've always been lacking in the camera. Google's been saying they want to make great improvements there, we'll see if it comes. But think of specs on Nexus phones like the Moto X, you dont need the fastest processors because they don't need to run a million different sensors and such. Although this Nexus is rumored for the snapdragon 800...

No doubt the note 3 has top of the line specs and a bunch of features.
The S4 is the same way, and yet the Moto X, which is said to have "mid-range" phone specs, can outperform anything on the market currently. Sure it can't answer a call when you wave over it or pause when you look away, but I wouldnt use those...
I have an S3 and I disabled everything samsung added cause I dont use them.
IF you like the stylus and those features, then the Note 3 is def the phone for you. For me, its way to big and I wouldnt use a stylus. But I think the Note, is much better than the S series for the galaxy phones, cause it actually has useful things people would use, i.e. stylus. While the S4, just doesnt IMO.

After having the S4 since launch, I can honestly say that the only S-feature that I still use occasionally is the wave over phone when hands are dirty/busy to answer calls. I ended up turning off the rest of them one by one when I realized I never used them other than during the first 2 weeks of ooohs and aaaahs.

This is SO frustrating...
I just wish they would provide a general time frame.
i really love the ability to get useful info on my nexus7 lock screen and would LOVE it on the VZW RazrM, but am still stuck in the stone ages of android.

Question for the Android experts (I don't pay as much attention these days to this): My wife is actually (no joke) looking to ditch her iPhone because well, she likes the Android platform more.
Her contract is also up and so, we have the option of going after either the Sammy Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z, or Xperia ZL (the Z1 has no announcement for Canada). So, of the 3, which would you suggest?
Thanks in advance!
