Yes. Came out to just over $600 with the accidental damage warranty. If I'm going to have something custom, I figure that was better money spent than a case.

Never bought an un-subsidized phone before, the amount makes me hope I don't like the Nexus X.

I have an edu email account, but it only forwards it to my current email account. Do you think that will work?

All you need is the unique code that will be sent to your valid .edu, which should forward on.

The Anandtech review of the new X is out, and it's not fantastic. Buyer's remorse in full effect.

Probably because the X isn't really direct comp to the other flagships. At least from what I read in I think CNET or Engadget.

The battery life and camera quality is most concerning, and I know battery life can change or be different for different users. However that's a website that really drills down to quantifiable statistics and to see that battery life is measured worse than my M7 is very concerning, as is camera quality and screen performance. The battery can be helped by the quick charger, to be sure, but it is an additional purchase. I'll have to judge the camera for myself as well as the screen.

From what I think I've read, I'll have about a week to decide if I want to keep it or not. Their website says 14 days, but from ship date, not receipt.

Although re-reading the review, I find the content of it pales in comparison to what sold me on the M7. Hmm...

I'll also add this here in case the unit doesn't work out:

lack of a microSD slot was once concerning to me, but no more. I used it a fair amount with my S3, but I haven't missed it with my M7. I got on a Kickstarter for a USB dongle, and never really used it. Available, but not used much. I don't keep any music locally, and I don't find Android gaming to be compelling for some reason (probably the lack of developers who will do iOS and Android, seems that most games I play a third party brings it over).

Non-removable battery: I have liked instances where I could replace the battery outright with a bigger model, but I never got into an instance where I swapped batteries, ever. I do find it very convenient for water damage scenarios, or modding, but not on a daily basis. I either want a battery that lasts all day (8am to midnight), or one that can charge quickly and easily. For the most part the M7's battery isn't anywhere near what the S3's was, but I will say it does charge quickly, at least with a wall charger. Car is mixed results.

Camera? I've about given up on getting quality results on Android because I won't go back to Samsung with their current production mindset. I just need to start carrying my DSLR in situations where I want shots that can be framed.

Verge claimed that the new Moto X is the best android phone ever made. I seriously doubt that one now even more.

a lot of people say its the best overall package. The biggest fault I see is the camera. The battery should be enough to get you through the day I believe. But that is still a fault against it.

There seem to be arguments for and against both. I've seen pretty good images and pretty bad images. Same for battery life graphs. Almost like there are manufacturing variances, which would be even more worrisome.

Time to get a new charger and/or cable. It makes a huge difference.

I now only miss my SDcard when I'm playing with custom roms, because it sure is nice to have multiple OS backups and those can sure eat space. On weekend gigs, I just bring my Anker external, and that's fine.

Some of it is tasks being done in the car, some might be the fact that I cleaned a ton of lint out of the port that was causing the charger to partially disengage. I'll be testing the results Wednesday.

Still considering going to the Xperia Z3. I don't really root phones, I don't have the patience or willpower to learn beyond trying out a new launcher or keyboard skins

Nobody has tried one out in person?

My Moto X (2013) is funky as hell sometimes. I've tried hard resets, letting the battery run all the way down, then charging it all the way back up while leaving it off/on. Still happened with three different Xs now. I really want to try the new Moto X, but...

Some days, the battery will go down to 50% after only 8 hours of very light usage. Then other days I'll use it moderately, and it will be at 50% after around 14 hours.

I'm even considering the iPhone again. But I know I'll just get terribly bored of it. At least they let you customize your keyboard now.

And on the other hand, quad HD phones are rolling out... if I get another phone this early (1 year) I figure I might as well get something bleeding edge.

Were you in the exact same locations on the different performance days? I find that being in a bad cell area has a huge impact on my MotoX battery life. As though, when it searches for signal, it searches HARD...

Also, if there are a shit ton of updates, etc. that run in a day, it hurts my battery as well, although I have not had any day that got me to the "worry point" battery wise yet...

My Moto X will generally die on 14-15 hours of usage and a little over 2 hours of screen on time.

use the app WakeLockDetect to see what's using the battery.

i had found that Google's "ok launcher" sometimes keeps my phone awake. leading to poor battery life on some days but not others.
this was fixed after Google updated the software, but for the life of me was confused on why my battery was discharging so fast.

if you curious, download wakelockdetect from the play store

I mentioned the Xperia Z3 because of its amazing battery life. It would be nice to have a phone that gave me a solid 18-20 hours of usage without needing a charge.

And yes, this is in the same area. If I go to another department, the WiFi will cut out, and I thought that could be the culprit. Happens whether wifi is enabled or disabled.

well part of the reason i have little screen on time is because my phone is being used when the screen is off, aka music or podcasts when going to work and music when hitting the gym.

Then wifi, bluetooth, gps, and data is always on. Work and personal email.

My GS3 before this would be dead before I left work.

So next month Note 4 and Note Edge will be coming out...

Question which one would you go with? Do you get more screen real estate and go with the 4, or do you go with side bar that can let you enjoy multitasking a bit more, but with smaller screen and battery...

What do you choose? I can't choose

At this point I'll be returning the X whenever it arrives, since I can't cancel.

I'm thinking Note 4 over the Edge. I didn't know about the smaller battery on the Edge and my #1 complaint of my Note 2 is the battery even with Location, WIFI, BT almost always off. Note 4 so far is my overall leader but I might go S6 since I renew in March.

Might just stick with the One. Having to pay for a month for the phone without actually having it has really put me off of it. It would have to be spectacular, and I doubt it will be.

There's the Shamu, Note 4 (very doubtful) to come as well.

You are Not Alone: ?Large Number? of Moto X Pre-Orders are Delayed (Updated) | Droid Life

To put it bluntly, Motorola doesn't have any idea when your phone will get to you, when it will be built, and when it will ship. They can't cancel orders, because they have no idea where they are. They are also dead silent about it publicly, and their CS reps are in full stall mode.

I'm butthurt about how superior Apple is over everything else in the market

They're better to the point where
many of their customers don't even consider the alternatives

I have no idea. Reviews have ranged from middling to best Android phone made. I was kinda hoping to find out myself; the interface is what sucked me in.

I mentioned it in this thread but Motorola massively fucked up my custom order. I went through four different Moto Xs. To make a very long story short, nearly every single rep I dealt didn't have a single damn clue on how to fix my problem. It was so bad that I never really considered getting the new Moto X, despite how much it and how much I like mine.
