Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
On a different note, I had a NO IDEA my new Verizon more everything plan came with wifi tethering built in... Woot.
I have been keeping an eye on Foxfi updates for the magic cure for kitkat and didn't know I did not need it. Nice.

I love this damn phone. Battery will usually last me about a day and a half with my use. Text a little, game a little, but mostly sits next to me on my desk all day. Screen is great compared to the M7. Speed is pretty good as far as I can tell. Haven't even really used the camera yet, so I can't say anything about that. I thought for sure I would hate having a phone with a 5.5" screen, but honestly after using it, I can't fathom how people cope on smaller screens.
I got one of those tempered glass screen protectors. I'm sold as far as those are concerned. Screen feels like a normal screen with no protector. Something I have always hated about those typical screen protectors.
I have two complaints.
1. I've had to pull the battery twice already since i've gotten it due to freezing. My M7 froze twice in the year I had it. Doesn't change the way I feel about the phone, but a little annoying.
2. I've had this happen twice. When a game is not completely closed out, I will hear the game during a phone call. Can still hear the person, just a real faint almost ghosting of the game. It's weird. Close the game, sound goes away. It doesn't happen every time, but every 5 calls or so if I had to guess.

I'm sure. It's probably one of the best phones I've ever had, minus the iPhone 3g.
I was a little concerned with the buttons on the back of the phone, but it is something that I have come to love. With the knock-on feature, the only time I use those buttons is when i'm on the phone. Which puts those buttons in a real natural position.

Interesting you had to pull the battery twice already. Wonder whats causing that. I'm guessing LG software?
My Moto X, I've had to do a hard reboot once so far. I've had it for about 8-9 months

i know some Roms like to settle for couple days to a week....
whenever I get a new phone, I dont restore all my apps for couple days....i like the rom to just settle in for 3 odd days and then I load all my apps up...I have never had to remove the battery/do a hard reboot on my note 3, either when I was running stock rom or when I moved to KNOXRAID rom...

I'm thinking about getting one for my M8. What brand did you buy?
So I've had my N7 (2013) since it was released last year. Come Nov. of 2013, I started noticing my N7 would restart every now and then. Wasn't too annoying since at that point I didnt use it much and I figured it was a bug that would go away in an update or if i restored it. At that time KitKat came out, super excited, updated it and again in the middle of using it, it would restart every now and then. Did a factory reset, same thing. I let it go since I wasn't using it much and I was too lazy to call tech support.
Finally come this June, I called Asus about my problem and told them this. Figured something was defective in hardware that was causing this since I didnt read about this issue much. I shipped it to them at my expense. The shipped it back to me.
Last night I was using it again and it restarted on me again... randomly. This is really annoying now especially since I sent it in. I don't think they even fixed it or thought nothing was wrong.
Now I don't even know if its worth all this trouble to go through it again, lose my tablet for weeks and get it back without it being fixed... not to mention, I had to pay UPS $27 freaking dollars to ship the thing. Any particular way I should approach this??

Ok Note 2 on AT&T 4.4.2 seems to run smoother than 4.3 and was worth the upgrade. It doesn't get all stuck when bluetooth is on. I can easily lock/unlock my phone without delay.
I will say that after having my phone on all day and then running BT on my home stereo even while charged still drains battery but at a slower rate. I still restart my phone every night before bed as leaving it on for a few days makes Android buggy.
Google maps is giving me issues. I got entirely wrong directions last night trying to find a condo because it kept telling me to leave the complex entirely. Also when I want to zoom into the house itself it doesn't allow a real close zoom like before. And lastly the annoying agree/disagree about sharing info EVERY TIME I open Maps.
I love that the music album art is spread on the entire lock screen. A perk of having a large screen.

Yeah I've played around with the Z Ultra before at a Sony retail store (closed now) and didn't mind the huge size. Camera sucks and there is no flash but I carry around my Nex 7 quite often so it won't be a huge problem.
I shall try the factory reset once my new phone arrives and I switch over. Funny enough, my N4 hasn't reset itself in the last five hours. Thanks for the advice!
As for the Xperia Z2, its finally available on the Sony website for... 699 nearly five months after its release and when ebay sellers are unloading them for 590 or so. Also the Z3 is around the corner. Sony really doesn't care about the US cellular market it seems.

So regarding the Z Ultra, I really liked it until yesterday when it decided to die on me all of a sudden.
The phone would reboot itself every now and then but I didn't think much of it. Then last night while listening to some music over my headphones, the phone went completely dead. NOTHING works. Fastboot, download mode, hard reset, whatever. Doesn't turn on when plugged into the pc or the wall. The phone had about 30% charge left when it decided to die.
I did root the phone using towelroot but that was it. No bootloader unlock, no rom, nothing. I used the magnetic charging pot but it was always plugged in the right way (when plugged in the opposite way, it can apparently fry the mainboard). Funny enough, it seems like my mainboard may be fried from the symptoms.
My 15day return window with expansys is just over so I'm thinking about contacting Sony for a warranty.. Meanwhile I'm back with my unstable Nexus4 which reboots itself about 10times/day. At least it powers on.

"The Sony Xperia Z2 is a water-resistant phone, and it may just be more humble that it puts on. One reportedly managed to survive for six weeks on a sea bed more than 10 meters deep. It didn't come out of the deal without a fair bit of damage, but the phone was still able to boot up and make calls."

As for the Z2, I would but I actually like having a stylus... (and yes, I DO use it
)
OK, android minions...
Is it possible (and if so, how) to disable google now on only ONE of my devices?
I would like to use it on the MotoX but leave it disabled on the Nexus7 as I have no need for it there and don't want the battery drain.
When I disable it on the N7, it disables it for the google account linked to the N7, which in turn disables it on the MotoX since it's linked to the same google account.

Mark me down as another believer in the tempered glass screen protectors. Naturally, it's thicker than the film-type protectors, but there is no loss in touch response. Smoother to the touch, as expected of glass. And for me, it was far easier applying the tempered-glass than the previous kinds of protectors.
Forgot to mention, when i got my N7 back from Asus the problem was still there, just called again. This time i made them give me free shipping too because I wasn't going to pay for it. I hope they just give me a refurbished one this time around

Tomatoe =/= Tomahto
