Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
The new messenging app from Lollipop is beautiful. I downloaded gmail and play music as well, but haven't installed it yet.

Ugh Note 2 may have bricked yesterday. It won't pass the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen on bootup. Spent most of the day figuring out how to fix it. I was stock and it just randomly starting doing it. Took out SD card and Sim, did the 3 button reset in proper order, reboot from backup mode, wipe phone and cache in backup mode, nothing. Apparently I have to install Odin on my laptop and flash stock rom via download mode on my phone? Worst case AT&T said the deductible is only $99 instead of $199 and I'll likely get a Note 3. That pushes me back from getting a Note 4 next year and I don't have to touch my upgrade so I can wait. My backup phone, iPhone 4 with no LTE
Any feedback is appreciated. XDA is a little advanced for me.

So I'm testing out a Note 3 through work, primarily to give feedback to T-Mobile on their service, coverage, speed, etc.
Having used an iPhone since day 1, I'm fucking lost.
What should I do to the phone to customize, etc? I will say the widgets in Android are really nice.

its hard.
Android is always changing; and its tough to teach others, like parents.
I get frustrated trying to show my mom something, and shes very proficient with computers.
lately the android updates have been more user friendly.
so, my mom is having an easier time finding features

The Music app got updated and now they've brought in Songza's features. The app looks so much better. I'm actually using google play music now over other choices all the time. Before even though i had the free trial, i would still use rdio
The radio before on google wallet was annoying and I didn't like it. This songza integration is much better
I think this article does a good job at pointing out why google wallet failed and where apple pay did good.

No my Note 2 I bought refurbed for $1 a year and a half ago. My contract will be 2 years in March. I only had a 90 day warranty but this time I'll get a whole year. Tracking says I'll have it by 3pm today.

Well even now that it is not blocked by carriers, I seriously doubt more than 50% of the people with a compatible phone know they even have that option.
While at least 99% of people who have an iphone 6 know that apple pay is an option.

AFAIK, it is still blocked. They blocked it so that they could develop ISIS and not let Google get a toe-hold.
I'm not sure if they removed the block, or Google removed the way they could block it with the 4.4 update. It's a bit muddled.
All I know is that with locked down phones, it never worked for me.

Yes and no.
Any phone running kitkat will not have it blocked.
SG5, LG G3, HTC One M8, Moto X, Note 4. and all other devices can use google wallet. Its just not a single one of the consumers know about it...

Basically because the carriers can't make money on it. It was developed by Google to be used by any Android phone on any carrier. Meanwhile, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon partnered to create the ISIS mobile wallet (now called Softcard). They make money on Softcard, not Google Wallet so they blocked it.
Long story short, carriers are greedy.

Wondering if anyone has heard of this or possible has an answer.
My Galaxy Note 2 just about every day will not send texts the phone says were sent.
Example...
Just yesterday I was texting a friend about coilovers.
He got my text at 12:52 and responded at 1:23
I then sent 5 texts... 1:32, 1:33, 1:35, 1:36, 1:36 and he received none of these yet my phone says all were sent.
This happens quite often and to my knowledge only with him.
First I assumed he was ignoring texts. We work together and hes one of my closest friends so ignoring a text in order to respond in person wouldnt be anything out of the norm. But then if I see him he can show me flat out he never got the texts.
And its all trivial stuff so I dont think texts are being ignored, they quite literally arent being sent. He has a Galaxy Note 3 which I find makes it stranger since we have the same brand phones, his just a model newer.

The menu button is a God send for many apps. Plus long presses also work.
