I have an odd question, when you sign up with the GrooVe IP app, are YOU assigned individual numbers? Or everybody gets the same number? Mine ends with 8888 I don't know if that's what everyone gets? Or I just got a kickass number

It should be using whatever Google gave you when you signed up for Google Voice. You have the option to change it for a fee at the Voice website:

www.google.com/voice

If its not the same, then I'm not sure where its getting your number from. Lol.

are those aftermarket batteries in eBay "safe" to use? And, I'm assuming no NFC with them, right? (which isn't a big deal because I never actually use that feature with anyone )

^Depends on the battery brand. Mugen has been around for a while but you'll probably find more info regarding which brands are good on XDA:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1338

Should find lots of recommendations in there. As far as NFC goes, the battery must have the antenna or else it won't work. This is also dependent on the device as some phones have it on the battery cover instead of the battery itself but on the Nexus the antenna is on the battery. The description should say whether or not it has the antenna.

Not sure if you guys saw this already but the latest CM 10.1 nightly for some of the devices added a slide to toggle Quick Settings (If it isn't on there yet, it'll be added to tomorrow's nightly):

I saw the commit last night but didn't know how to use it. Apparently, the slide only registers on the bottom bar below the carrier name which is why I couldn't get it to work earlier.

Also, they added the option for the Chronus Widget to expand at default on the lockscreen. Unfortunately, its not like how I imagined it to be. It still requires two swipes to unlock as now you have to slide the widget up and then unlock vs. it displaying all of the calendar and weather info and able to unlock it in one finger. I also managed to install 4.2.1 on my Galaxy S and its working awesome. It didn't work on the pre-nightlies for some reason but now its working fine with everything working.

haha nice

i'm trying something... theres a mod for my phone that supposedly gets rid of the throttle. So i've used quite a bit of data already, by not going on wifi as much. But i'm waiting till its closer to my next cycle to go past 2. Just in case it does get throttled, i dont wanna be stuck with it.

^^^ the throttle sucks....they throttle me after about 5gigs of data....i have passed 5 gigs about 3 times in the past 6-7 months....before that I was on 3G and it impossible to pass 2-3gigs on them....

but anyway, after throttle my download speeds go down to between 500KBPS and 1MBPS....i even called them and said WTF, I have unlimited plan....and they were like "yes, you still have unlimited plan but just at reduced speeds".....

Chrome beta is out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...t=1&feature=md

you can only download from the link. Supposedly faster and you'll get the new features faster at the cost of bugs, but i'm sure we'll all want it! Gonna try it out now

I use it along with Skype, GrooveIP (for a short time). Viber only works if the other person has a Viber account but it works cross platform, Android and iOS. So you can do a free Viber to Viber call/text if they have an account using data/WiFi. The account is free to make and as far as I'm aware there are no limitations. The only downside is that you can only create one Viber account per phone number. So if you have multiple devices, it won't sync your calls/messages between them although they're saying eventually it'll be available to multiple devices...My girlfriend was out of the country a few weeks ago and it was more reliable than Skype in terms of calling each other. That's because it runs as a service in the background and doesn't take up as much RAM as Skype does which tends to get killed off any time I want to use my phone or play games. So its fairly reliable compared to Skype. It can be used as the deafult dialer if you want to use it to make Viber to Viber calls but if the other person doesn't have Viber it will dial like a regular phone.

I haven't used GrooveIP in a while but with the limited time I used it, it worked great. It does require a fast internet connection and there are some echoing issues but that can be resolved with some tweaking and a faster internet speed. I did also use SipDroid before in its early days back when I was on Eclair and it worked great. Also had echoing issues but it works. Skype is Skype. Its a resource hog and I've had my fair issues with it but when it connects it stays connected so I guess that's a good thing.

If you're interested in using SipDroid and a free PBX account tied to your Google Voice account, here's a good guide on how to do it:

http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/dr...tml#post151592

I set mine up in the same manner before Google bought Gizmo5 back in the Eclair days and it worked great on my HTC Ion. If you set it up using SipDroid, you can have free incoming and outgoing phone calls using your Google Voice in much the same way GrooveIP does it.

Oh I forgot to mention, some WiFi networks may block the ports needed for Viber to make and receive phone calls. As far as I'm aware, there's no way around that as Viber doesn't allow you to change the ports within the app. (Found this out when I was in Vegas.) You would have to use your 3G/4G connection. Either way, quality was great on AT&T's HSPA+.

I was hoping to be able to make calls with one of these programs, and have the caller ID on the receiving end show as my mobile number, not Google Voice number. Haven't found a way to do this, if it's even possible.

If you port your number to Google Voice you can do it. It costs $20 though.

http://support.google.com/voice/bin/...answer=1065667

I've thought of doing it but the way Google Voice handles MMS and group messaging at the moment is lacking. Once they figure that out I would do it although I don't use MMS all the time. Its actually a lot easier to manage numbers with Google Voice as you can block numbers easily from the website and tie other numbers to it like your house phone or other mobile phone. One number will ring all devices which is pretty convenient and then the option to use SMS via the web interface or your phone is a plus.

Thanks, I'll look more into it. I read about it earlier but didn't get to really look at it. I don't mind the $20 but if there's too many negatives it wouldn't be worth it.

Dammit... I wish I got in on this deal. I got the Galaxy Note 2 this morning and had to pay $50 bucks for the flip cover at the ATT store....

I should've atleast gotten one for my GS3, since my Wife is going to use it now and she refuses to use a case.

BTW, CGFebTSX, do you know if there's a way to change the thumbnail that's shown in Gallery?

For some reason, my phone is trolling me and picking a NSFW picture as my thumbnail...

I think the Gallery pics the most recent picture (by date) as the thumbnail. At least it does for the AOSP gallery. If you want to hide certain files, create a ".nomedia" file and place it in the same folder as the file you want to hide. Android will skip that folder and anything inside it so it won't show up. You can still browse that file with a File Explorer though. If you want an alternative Gallery viewer, check out QuickPic:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...GljRm9sZGVyIl0.

Its much more functional and very awesome app. You can also have it ignore certain folders/files as well or password protect those folders/files.

so a while back when google music first came out I uploaded all my songs and check marked to add all the free ones.

I guess now, theres no check mark for on-device music only?? I have it clicked stream only when on wifi, but its cached those free songs on my device which is annoying. Would I need to delete them one by one??

Also, all the music i uploaded (like 2gb) i have on my phone, and there are a lot of doubles. Which is why I want on device music clicked only, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, is there a way to get rid of all the doubles??

I'm sure someone else knows a better answer to this, but I'm thinking you could go to Settings, Apps, Google Music, delete data. Then you would just have to re-select the music you want on the device.

I have a similar issue as you. What I've done is create a playlist with just the on device music I care about and only listen to that playlist on shuffle. if I need something different I can still stream it in, but the playlist keeps my favorite stuff easily at hand.

It's great - for some reason when I first saw it a month ago, I thought it was huge. But using it side by side with my GS3, its not that much bigger. However it is thicker than the GS3 and it definitely won't fit in the front pocket of my tighter jeans. Fits just fine in my slim fit slacks/suit, which is what I wear for 10 hours a day M-F.

I think the size is perfect for people like me: I average less than 20 minutes a month of talk time, 2 gigs of data a month, and 200+ texts a month - meaning, I rarely use my phone for making calls, but more as a email/text/media device.

IMHO however, the S-Pen (while cool to play with), is pretty useless for me - might be more useful on a true tablet.

Oh and Speedemon... I have to admit, I liked your homescreen so much that I made something similar on my Note 2 (I hide my upper status bar though). Sorry for being a biter...
