Liar. I tried to get one as soon as it was announced at 12pm and I couldn't even get to the checkout screen.

I got this case for my Note 4. Fits like a glove and it was $2.99 shipped from eforcity via ebay. I always had good luck with these cases. The rubbery material absorbs impact good. Maybe the SD card detaches for a second. No cracks on my Note 2

I had some strange issues with storage, although I have done the full monty on my note 4 (root, TWRP, custom rom) and I think I messed that up at one point. I also did the change that allows programs to read/write to the external SD card.

It just says the app isn't compatible and the reviews confirmed it. Is it working on your phone?

Very tempted to order a Nexus 5. I think the battery on my N4 is on it's way out. I used to be able to go ~20 hours on a charge, and now I struggle to get 12 hours.

Seems to, although I haven't tried actually renting a movie. I can browse around and everything.

BTW, I recently switched to ART and the phone seems faster - haven't seen any breakage (yet)

Haha, screw this. I'm just going to go through AT&T to get it, since apparently the carrier versions are the same phone.

[PSA] Important information regarding the Nexus 6 with carriers : nexus6

I have seen a lot of posts recently about how US carriers are planning on handling the Nexus 6. I wanted to post something to help clarify questions from officially released information, to hopefully get questions answered.

Will the version of the Nexus 6 sold by carriers be different than the version of the Nexus 6 sold in the Google Play Store?
No. Carriers including T-Mobile and AT&T have both stated they are selling the same phone as the Google Play Store.

Will carriers install "bloatware" onto the phone?
It is possible. Please read the answer to the next question for more elaboration on this however.

Will buying it from the Google Play Store ensure I don't get carrier bloatware installed?
No. Google has released that Lollipop will have a new process called "Play Auto Install" when activating with a carrier and setting up your phone. Basically, if you have a Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile/etc SIM card in your phone, it reads that, and downloads whatever software to your phone your carrier has specified. This means if you buy a phone from the Play Store and activate it on T-Mobile, it will still install software that T-Mobile has specified to install, if any. Before you get overly frustrated with this however, there is good news. Google has also stated that the software that is automatically downloaded is not stored in the system partition on the phone, and can be deleted by the user if they want. This is a win-win for carriers and customers, and should not be frowned on by the Nexus community. This ensures we still get speedy updates from Google, and still have freedom to control what software is on our phones.

Can't I just flash the Google version of Android onto my Nexus 6 to avoid this?
No. Like I said, this is a built-in feature of Lollipop, and hopefully will be a feature of all Android smartphones in the near future.
Will I be able to disable the automatic installation of software by my carrier?
Possibly. There might be a way to disable the "Play Auto Install" process, but it isn't clear right now.

If I buy the Nexus 6 from Play Store/Motorola/Amazon/etc, will it work with my provider?
Most likely, but in some cases no. T-Mobile, AT&T, and others are known for being pretty flexible in allowing you to bring your own device to their network, and most likely it should work just fine. Verizon has had a spotty history in the past with allowing devices not purchased through them onto their network, even though it is the same model. I would advise Verizon customers to purchase the Nexus 6 directly through them, just to avoid any issues.

tl;dr:
  • Bloatware may still be possible even when purchasing through Google Play Store
  • Flashing the OS to the phone won't fix this
  • You should be able to delete bloatware however, as it isn't installed on /system
If you are on a carrier like Verizon, buy your phone directly from them rather than elsewhere

I will stop incessantly hitting "check for update" on the nexus 7 until further notice. Thanks.

Well managed to get myself a 32gb white Nexus6 for the time being. Hoping I will be able to get a 64gb one before they ship as I would prefer that.

Holy crap is the $649 price for the Nexus 6 worth the hardware that it's coming with? That is damn expensive for being used to seeing $299 on Nexus phones.

I think it is worth it. Previously Nexus hardware to me was middle of the road. Now it is a top of the line premium spec phone. Which typically always have prices like that. That is how much my M8 when I bought it.

Everyone forgot that Nexus phones before the 4 were always at that price. (see: Galaxy Nexus)

And yes it is worth the price, since you get more phone for at least $100 less compared to comparable phablets like the Note 4 and iPhone Plus.

p.s. iPhone Plus feels beyond giant. The extreme thinness they went for makes it too awkward to hold in the hand compared to the Note 4 and Nexus 6.

"The Lollipop update will also be available to some Samsung tablets. The first tablets to get the updated Android version are Samsung Galaxy Tab S (both the 8.4 and 10.5 inches), Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (8.4, 10.1, and 12.2), and Samsung Galaxy Note Pro (8.8, 10.1, and 12.2). Users will get the update in January or February."

My Galaxy Tab S may see the update some time before 2018! Wonder which will see it first though. That or my Nexus 7 (2012) 4G.

In what way? The specs I've seen are pretty much identical between the two. What am I missing?

^ The OS has nothing to do with contributing to the price tag though.

It can make it a better phone, which I think was more of the point.

This guy has some great reviews IMO. Here's his Nexus 6 / Note 4 review:

He also has a great Note 4 / Note Edge video.

I wouldnt consider that a review, per say. He basically laid down all the specs. On paper and reality are two completely different animals.

So far Touchwiz on the Note 4 isn't a big deal. Yeah let's see with time.

Huh? He covered all the specs, which clearly indicate that the Nexus 6 has great specs but nothing special over the Note 4:

Minuses:

1. Minimally lower pixel density (really doubt if it's even noticeable)
2. Inferior camera.
3. Battery is not removable.

Pluses:

1. Lollipop now.
2. Rapid charge is faster.

Like I said he just laid out specs. Put any android specs up against an iPhone and 99% of the android phones will be better spec wise. Yet only the best android, read "high end," phones can compete against the iphone.

Any current/former owners of AMOLED devices have trouble with burn in? It was annoying on my GNex but I don't have a problem on my '13 Moto X. It just describes the N6 screen type as "AMOLED", no further descriptors.

I like stock Android and the form factor of the N6/Moto X, but the Note 4 is starting to become more appealing too because of the availability issues with the N6

I'm having a problem with the calendar on my new S5 (work phone) and hoping you guys can help me out.

It seems calendar events made during daylight savings time now show up an hour earlier in the calendar and no matter what I do I cannot get them to show up at the correct time. Those same appointments show up fine on my Note 2 and Galaxy Nexus. I've gone in and checked the time settings on both the calendar and the phone settings and kind of at a loss now.

It's really bad because the events made outside of daylight savings time are fine, so I'm constantly wondering which event times are correct.

Nevermind, found the answer finally! Had to clear data on the calendars and let them sync again.
