thats an overstatement for many motors, including our j32/j35.

There's good potential for plenty of power to be made on our motors. Everything is good enough to hold plenty except for the pistons. Rods are forged, crank's forged. Piston's are the weak link, and changing those to forged pistons and lowering CR along the line, will get you on the road to 500 WHP with plenty of reliability.

was that the blown CL-S with youtube videos floating around? if so, his turbo may have worked but it was way to big and you could literally watch the clock while it spooled up. And all I ever saw him do was smoke the tires for a second. the car never went above a crawl.

could be a different car i'm talking about.

Our rods are weak also and should be given consideration for replacement. Yes they are forged, but it was done by Honda to reduce weight, not for stregnth. Unfortuntly the only AM rods I know of at this point are made by Paulter, they are gorgeaous and have used a set, but damn $1200 a set.

Cunningham makes nice rods as well, but they're the same price. I like them tho

ThinJim parted-out and sold the turbo. He sold the car. He then built a racetrack only car (tube frame). It is this racetrack-only car that is rwd.

Interesting stuff. Using the forum search feature is like being able to travel back in time. Found out that the true credit does not belong to ThinJim. ThinJim purchased the kit from Acurazine member "allmotor_2000". And, I think "allmotor_2000" got help from another Acurazine member "BlueCLS6". "BlueCLS6" was 31 yrs old and a Design Engineer for Garrett Engine Boosting Systems!!!

Back in 2004, "allmotor_2000" had his turbo CL making 419 whp (Dynapak). On the dyno, he used race gas. However on the street, he used 91 octane gasoline usually.

Turbo CL-S Dyno (click here)

In 2005, "allmotor_2000" parted-out the turbo and sold the turbo to ThinJim. In 2006, he sold the car. He bought a BMW 7.

Selling my car... (click here)

Also discovered there was another Acurazine member that built his own turbo kit. It was Acurazine member "BlueCLS6". He was 31 yrs old and a Design Engineer for Garrett Engine Boosting Systems!!!! This was in year 2004 too. His made 374 whp with 91 octane gasoline. He used Comptech FPR and Greddy E-Manage, stock injectors, and a custom E-Manage harness

2nd Turbo Install Complete. Official Pics (click here)
DYNO'ed (finally) BlueCLS6's Turbo CLS (click here)

Oh and this is with practically new tires (only 6100 miles) and 4 people in the car!! This is with a peak of only about 5.8psi of boost too. Even the turbo engineers here at Garrett were impressed. Anyway, just wanted to report. Sorry we don't have any videos yet.
Then in 2006, "BlueCLS6" put his car up for sale. He wanted to sell the whole CL as-is including the installed turbo. After no solid bites, he put the turbo kit up for sale for $6,000. The kit finally sold in January 2007 to an undisclosed person.

For anyone pushing the J32 hard with boost or juice, please take note of this thread. Keep an eye on cylinder #2.

Hmmm....says he was running 91 octane but nothing mentions meth injection. Why would he not run 93 with that much boost/hp?

i agree...my point was that, in nearly stock form, there's plenty of power to be had safely and reliably, in addition to the person i quoted, for the comment he made

According to BlueCLS6, which was a Sr. Design Engineer for Garrett, he used a Greddy E-Manage (Pre-tuned w/ 91 octane @ sea level)

haha

I want to learn everything, but I have so many options. Like get a M3/type-s, buy a beater (Supra, 67 Mustang/Camaro) and mod it and keep my M3/type-s stock. Or get a Type-S mod it with the turbo and do my best to keep it stable at 500WHP daily driver.

Actually saw a similar GN like yours on craigslist, and wanted to check on it.

Thanks phee. I did overlook "CL-S6". Interesting that he sold the kit after using the turbo just 2500 miles. He said he sold it because he wanted to go "all motor".
