The original estimate is mid-January.

I just heard back from Rodney (thanks silvatypes). For some reason, his family wants to see him at home instead of spending all his time at the garage. Imagine that

He also said originally that he will be shorthanded over the next couple weeks with vacations and that will also delay progress as well.

At this point, he still needs to get the F/IC 8 in hand.

The wait is killing me too, but it's giving me time to insulate my garage and install a used furnace.

Have you guys found an A-pillar gauge pod that will fit the TL? I was looking at one for an 03-07 accord coupe and sedan but the seller told me that it would not fit the TL. His answer sounded more like he wasn't sure but at the same time, couldn't rule it out.

I always thought the airbag came out of that little square on top of the A-pillar lol

NEVER liked the look of A pillar gauges in any car period.... whenever i see them, i think to myself they are either ricers or have actually have some stuff under the hood to back them up. regardless, you loose the "sleeper" status and draw more unwanted attention to your car. =/

BUT, if thats the only place you can put them, then what can you do?

It's the guys with $400 - 500 V1's or 9500i's sitting low on the dash that I look out for. The A pillar's not a bad choice but if the car is already a sleeper.. might as well try to go with the theme. If anything I'd do a carputer and have an electronic readout on the display.

FNF.. never heard of it..

It would be pretty nice though. Devtoasters have some nice gauge readouts for the iphone. I'm sure there are some pretty cool ones developed for FI apps on the PC as well.

yeah I hear the sleeper side of things, but it's just more money... or at least the way I envision it. lol Here's jptl04 again... answering all questions... But I noticed it covers up the vent that clears fog on the side window though, but no biggy.

hey, i just remembered one of the former owners at cc auto, had a 05 is300 with a 2jz swap and had a zeitronix all in one gauge. he also had a problem with gauge placement and went this route. its actually a cool little box. from what i remember, it has a/f, egt, boost psi, oil press, oil temp, water temp (i think) but dont quote me on that, its been awhile since ive seen his car =/

It is possible that he does have it in. I mis-read his response to me and he just said he didn't have time to do much with his short staff and family.

I was willing to go with the 6 and do my own thing with the 8. I still think it's worth the wait.

Do you have a place to work on this or are you having someone do it for you? I am working on getting my garage warm and toasty so when I start pulling plastic parts off, they don't break like sheets of ice.

I know HiSpeed doesn't have this problem being in Cali.

I am going to go with something similar to what Kennedy described. Depending on how it looks mocked up, I'll still put the A/F and boost on the column and maybe something like oil and coolant temp on the pillar.

The rest will go as e-gauges using something like the Zeitronix unit.

That is exactly what I am looking for. Their products even take outputs from an AEM UEGO wideband and Zeitronix's interface. Looked at them before but never went very far into it.

Thanks!!!

My only issue with using a car PC is placement and that you have to look so far off of center to see them.

That looks pretty good but also looks $$$$$ hahaha... I think I'm just anxious to get this thing in first with just the right gauges, and maybe later on get all video goodies...

Well, we've been getting quite a bit of frost. I wouldn't say we got snow, but it's still pretty cold to be working on cars though. But again, we don't have any blizzards.

It does. You can see it for yourself by pulling the A-pillar cover. Just use a small flat head screwdriver to pop that square up. The square is attached to the clip. Once the cover is up, just pop the clip out. There is another clip about 1/3 of the way up the pillar cover.

We don't get anything like that for our cars.

Maybe using the mounts that Kennedy listed could be mounted on the corners of the column to get this spacing.

For the non-TLs people like me, putting the gauges between the gaps like Mike showed works for me.

Yeah, I'm just killing time thinking of all the things I would like to do.

Still have to get the A/F Wideband, Boost Gauge, Meth Inj and new mounts. That alone is enough money spent not to mention the cost of the kit.

Yeah no kidding... I haven't factor in labor and stuff either for getting some of this stuff done.

There's still the gauges and pods to buy, labor, , move the battery, exhaust system and motor mounts... And then even after that... I'm looking at the Versus Motorsport front and wheels.

Im still debating on installing this myself. I have my girlfriends fathers garage that has a lift in it if i want. It does seem very straight forward but it may be a little too advanced for me. I know its basically plug and play since the aem fic will already be tuned but changing out the fuel injectors and fuel pump...im not too sure about. sounds easy and im almost positive i could do it but i get scarred lol.

The steel gaskets can be re-used, if some of the black coating comes off pick up some copper gasket spray at you local parts store and give them a light coating.

even with the comptech supercharger, the list of accessories goes on and on.

BUT you'll be rewarded for it the first time you hear that turbo spool im so jealous!!

i <3 turbos, especially one thats in a 3rd gen TL. so priceless!!

You can do the same thing with a piece of plexiglass. I drilled out two holes for the head rest post to go thru and one for the bolt to mount the camera on.
The plexi piece cost $1.

On another note, be carefull recording yourself comiting crimes because it can catch up with you. A few street or freeway signs can give away your favorite
hi speed spot.

Whoop !!!

Ohhhh no. That is not a gift to yourself. That is a gift to all of us on Acurazine ! Looking forward to many vids of the install. Then, many more vids of those kills. Whoop ! Speaking for all of Acurazine, “Thanks for the gift libert69.”

Moving on to the topic of make vids of kills.

I do not know how a mount would work. The mount will work for recording SCCA events, make a pass down the quarter mile track, etc. But, I feel that a mount would be a “fail” for recording a kill.

To record a kill, the camera must pan (move) though the entire video. The camera would be pointed toward the front of your car to document the opponent before or after the event. When the race is underway, the camera will need to pan (change direction) to keep the opponent in the view-of-view of the camera as he is being left behind….. eventually appearing in your rear window.

All of this is occurring at an unpredictable rate. Thus, the camera needs to be aimed by you as the situation unfolds. Hence, I do not see how a mount would work to record a kill.

I recommend the following.

For making my TL Diet Videos, I practiced daily with driving wot with one hand. I had to learn how to control the torque-steer with just my left hand on the steering wheel. It took me about a month to gain the skill of controlling wot torque-steer with just my one hand. You can start practicing this now. Then when the turbo gets installed, you will need to tweak your one-handed skill to handle the new power. But, the basic skills will be in-place.

BTW, I also practiced changing lanes and heavy braking with using just my left hand too. During a race, one will need to perform these operations too with just one hand.

I even practiced making videos while pulling away from red-lights at a normal pace. Again, just for practicing. During a race, you get one chance only to get the recording. Remember, you are operating the camera via point-shooting…. Without looking thru the viewfinder. You need practice to learn how to aim the camera by feel (point-shooting). Again, this is something you can began practicing now.

If you have a choice, it is best to get your opponent to be on your right side. If you watch my TL Diet Videos, you will see how easy it is to capture your opponent when he is on the right side.

If the opponent is on your left side, it is impossible to recorded him. I experimented with different aiming techniques. Nothing worked for me. The only option that I found was to record my opponent thru my side mirror when he is positioned on my left side. I can recorded him directly as he is next to my driver-side door. But, as he falls behind me and becomes outside the view of my window, I must aim the camera at my side mirror to see him thru the mirror as he drops behind. If you try to pan (aim) the camera too far backward with the opponent on your left, the camera will record nothing but your B-Pillar post.

Let’s change topics to video editing software. Again, this is something you can began to learn now. You will need to acquire some video editing software. I use Sony Vegas Pro. You will need to learn how to edit your videos to mask (block out) street signs as was mentioned by “Hi speed”. Plus, you need the basics on cropping the field-of-view, splicing, etc.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you have questions. I am more than happy to help.

BTW, if you didn't get a chance to see my vids, they are here (see link below)
