It finally Happened

After countless races, I finally had a go at a Z06. I couldn't even begin to tell of the other races, several being Cobra's which only one won but could be debated.

Last night on a popular road known for racing I danced with a Z06 with the loudest exhaust I've ever heard, literally made my ears ring. At first he didn't seem interested as I was side by side with him giving him the nod. He just gave me that short man look like, "you've got to be kidding". So I gave it the gas and phssssst ahead of him a few lengths and slowed it back down to wait for him. We were going 50. He caught up and the fish bit. He got the jump on me and pulled about 2-3 lenghts. By that time, full boost was realized and phssst...right up on his door with my front bumper. We stayed at that length until around 110 then that big v8 started to pull ever so slightly. I was stoked! If this car could have made the boost sooner, there is no question I'd have been a couple of lengths ahead of him.

Up the road at a light, he turned out pretty cool and said "that car is fast" his girlfriend, hotness, asked what kind of Acura is that. Told her CL, the maximum sleeper.

I've been getting crazy with this thing lately and have played around a little with the boost controller to increase the boost response. I had it so the boost was approaching 10psi by 4800-5300 or so rpm, then it's nothing but wheel spin at 80 or so mph. Had to tone it down a little and had just adjusted it prior to running into him. Man when this thing hits full boost at that rpm, it is just unreal. The tach moves so fast, it jumps to keep up with it.

Excellent run Tom

I'm assuming that you did all this with your slipping clutch too? You need to have a camera running whenever to take that beast out.

The clutch is hit and miss. If I run it hard for a while and it heats up, it loses grip. I ran him with the cutout closed, through the muffler, if I open up the cutout, it slips almost everytime as the power comes on very quickly. BTW, got your mail and thanks.

Was it a 405 horse Z06 or the new 505 horse Z06? What mods have you done to your car?

I dunno about that.. I think it's possible.

anyways, the 505 HP rating is at the crank, and thinjim made 450 WHEEL HP. With a 15% drivetrain loss the 505 HP becomes 429 WHP, so it's just a matter of weight of the cars.

plus, technically he didn't beat him, more like kept up with him.

That makes it even sweeter. Just think if he knew you ran him in low HP mode Full HP with a new clutch and cutout open and he won't know what hit him.

it was the ls7 505bhp. and ghost had it right with lets say a 15% loss of hp in the drivetrain puts his whp a bit below mine. his torque really kills me and explains him pulling away toward the top of the gear. both cars are about the same weight, it seems impossible and unlikely but whp numbers are what they are.

congrats on that race, now you just need to find a way to put all that power you make to the ground without spinningthe tires or the clutch slipping and I bet you would do much better.

that's impressive as hell. the vette must trap 10 mph faster than your CL.

117 compared to 127.

Actually, the Z06 is about 400 pounds lighter than the CL-S. 3100 vs 3500 pounds I used Car and Driver and Motor Trend for my curb weights. That might be one reason he pulled on you.

Nice run! This reminds me of my dance with the Viper a while back. I of course didn't beat him by any means but he was impressed... got kind of a grin and nod out of him Turbochargers rule.

I thought the cl was closer to 3000 lbs..heavier than i thought.

It was a blast and there were several modded cars behind us. When it was over and going our own way, one of the guys in one of those cars said he was surprised to see this model acura move like that and thought I was going to blow past him initially. Love this stuff! Need more boost!

mattg-how you been? i'm thinking my car can now trap in the neiborhood of 118-119 in the 1/4. it was at 114.8ish if i remember correctly from a pass a few months ago. I've since change the onset of boost from reaching 10psi at the last 1000rpm then, to reaching it 2200rpm before readline now. I get to ride the 460 whp for an extra 1000 or so rpm. It makes a tremendous difference. Out of the hole, we all know this car needs help, but on the open road, watch out.

I'm uber impressed. Bad ass. Now you just need some tires, and better suspension will help you out with your grip situation.

That's what I was thinking...and the LS7's have been dynoing waaaay higher than they should. Underrated from the factory it seems.

Good run though!

Not without some valvetrain work. What makes you so confident?

you FI j32s are really putting down some impressive #'s especially considering the small group that you are and how expensive it is.

alot of GM muscle came underated from the factory. like the regular Trans Am (non WS-6) and the Camaro Z-28, i believe.
