Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
ICS looks pretty good. Thing I hope is that they optimized the OS so random apps dont drain batteries, especially google apps. Their own apps shouldnt stay on to drain batteries.
I like the wifi switch in the settings, that should have always been there. It takes to long to turn on wifi without the power control app or having it in the notification bar.
and the delay was because of steve jobs
A Samsung spokesperson issued a follow up statement to CNET, confirming speculation that the reveal was postponed out of respect, following the passing of Steve Jobs. "We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs's passing," the spokesperson explained.
Android Police seems to have a dump of ICS. They've detailed the new Google Music 4.0.1 and Google+ 2.0 on their site. The Google Music update seems pretty nice. If you guys want to give it a try get it at their site:

You have to uninstall the Google Music from the market before installing the one on their site. Its pretty slick but the blue isn't matching my theme. lol.

Google Plus 2.0 from ICS:

Uninstall old one first. This seems smoother overall. Really liking the responsiveness of the new Music and the Plus app. Hopefully, this is indicative of all the apps in ICS.

I dont have a citi/master card so I'll just get the google prepaid card and hook that up to my visa card.

I had to do a full wipe, just flashing it didnt work.

I finall bit the bullet and bought a tablet
. I got a good deal on an almost brand new Asus Transformer. I know the new one is going to be coming out soon but $500 for the 16gb isnt as appealing, and this thing is FAST!! With one gig of ram this thing flys, its amazing how much it can multitask with tons of ram to spare, the battery lasts forever and the graphics it can pump out is amazing. I cant believe it took me so long to buy one of these, and I actually find the e-reader apps really useful.

The Nexus Prime is the first phone I have really been excited for in a long time. Last one was probably my TouchPro2. I question giving up my simultaneous Voice/Data I get on my Thunderbolt though.

Currently overclocked mine to 1.4 GHz which it doesn't really need. The highest I see on the kernel I'm using is 1.7 but that's just over doing things. Now that Skype and Netflix works on it, I'm not really missing any major apps except maybe HBO Go and Max Go but I can watch that with flash in the browser. ASUS has been on point with the software updates and I'm looking forward to Ice Cream Sandwich on it.
I saw that the other day. Supposedly, some Best Buys did honor the price. Such a good price for a tablet with a stylus.

CyanogenMod-7.1 Released!
October 10th, 2011
It’s been far too long since our last official release, but I’m happy to present CyanogenMod-7.1! I apologize for the long delay, and I hope to speed up our release process in the future. We originally planned to release this last weekend at the Big Android BBQ but some issues with our automated build system held it back.
You’ll find many new features (read the CHANGELOG) and support for building on 68 devices! Upgrading from any previous CM-7 release or nightly build should be smooth and no wipe should be required.
New devices since 7.0 included in today’s release are:
HTC Desire S
HTC Incredible S
HTC Incredible 2
LG Optimus 2X and T-Mobile G2x
Motorola Backflip (Motus)
Motorola Cliq / Cliq XT
Motorola Defy
Motorola Droid 2
Motorola Droid X
Samsung Captivate
Samsung Fascinate
Samsung Mesmerize
Samsung Showcase
Samsung Vibrant
Samsung Galaxy S
Samsung Galaxy S2 (multiple carriers)
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini
Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro
Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play
Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
ZTE V9
There are many devices still in beta status (Pyramid, Doubleshot, Shooter, HP Touchpad, Optimus 3D, several more) that we will be promoting to release or release-candidates in the next few weeks when the code is merged to our main branch.
The preferred method of installation is via ROM Manager, but you can directly download the latest release from our mirror network. Head over to our forums to discuss the release or get help. Installation instructions and other information can be found on our wiki.
As we continue to grow and improve CM, we are starting to see support from the industry grow- something that was unheard of previously. Recently, Sony Ericsson assisted our developers by providing over 20 devices, technical assistance, and compatible hardware drivers. CM-7.1 now has support for all recent SEMC devices thanks to this effort. Various other vendors have reached out to us, but we understand that it is still somewhat of a difficult situation. We will soon be providing a porting guide and some information on how vendors can get involved with the project and how/why it will benefit them.
Thanks again for the support, and for making CyanogenMod the #1 community Android distribution. We’ll be following up with a few minor releases and soon it will be time to start work on CM9!

Do you know which model number it is? B7O or lower? Reason being, some of the B7O and above are unrootable at the moment. And yeah, I agree, the Transformer is pretty awesome. It wows people every time I show them its a tablet plus a keyboard.

So I'm not on cm7.1 yet, but I'm on nightly 212 or 216 I believe.
Either way, I didnt know they added the options to take a picture with your power/volume buttons! Thats awesome! So much easier to do with one hand
when you go in the camera app, click menu and advanced settings. You'll find it there. They added timers too, which I didnt know also.
I dont think I know half the stuff my phone can do lol

I finally setup the long press search button to open the camera app. Its much easier then going into the app drawer and opening it there. Its in CM Settings under Input -> Search Key Settings. And the screenshot on power menu was added a while ago, I love it. I dont have to have any excess programs to take screenshots now.
Im on nightly 216. Im going to flash the latest tonight. I get random reboots. The NSCollab Im running is with the messed up voltages too, but I was too lazy to update it.
my co-worker just got the galaxy 2... the screen is so much bigger than my fascinate!
dowant!
which one is better between galaxy 2 and nexus prime? i'm thinking of upgrading mine with one of these in couple months. i don't know why but i'm eligible to upgrade, even though it's only been 1 year since i got my fascinate.

Ohh thats a good idea for the long press lol. Although I'll pick menu cause that has no long press stock. With yours you get rid of the google voice search thing, it wouldnt matter if you dont really use it though.
ALso on NScollab. Try out the lazy governor. I like it.

How important is reception to you? You won't find better reception in any manufacturer other than Moto. Main reason I never look twice at Samsung or HTC. I'm in fringe areas every day and my Bionic is great just like my OG Droid was.
I usually have the same signal strength as my friends HTC mytouch 4g and I'm on a NS
Signal strength(bars) are really pointless, its actually making calls that tells the story.

All I know is, in my fringe areas, HTC and Samsung drop calls. Moto's don't. If you aren't in fringe areas then it won't matter. Also, howardforums will back up my claims that Moto is on top as far as reception.

Yes it would be worth it. However, wait for the Nexus Prime announcement before doing anything. Supposedly, there will be a GSM version. Details should be coming out in the next few days. The blog sites are saying October 19th is when Google will be announcing the phone at All Things Digital Asia.
