Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
If its buttery smooth now I'd consider an android phone. Every android phone I've fiddled with, the UI lags or stutters, kind of ruins it for me (and I don't care to root or whatever)(dunno about the newer ones thou like the GSII)
Hmm so the entire UI is now accelerated?

It follows Samsung's naming pattern of Galaxy phones although Nexus Prime sounded much better. The tools used to flash the phones also follow Galaxy related themes such as Odin and Heimdall.
Damn, my Sprint Premier account was terminated so I have one last chance to switch up to a new phone before the 20 month upgrade lockout. I was looking forward to getting the Prime.
Coincidentally, my Ipod Nano has crapped out, the touch disc no longer works so I have it plugged inside my GF's BMW and just use Idrive to scroll.
I wonder if I should make the plunge to the 4S. I've had Ipods since the Mini, they've all been pieces of crap. The last 2 crapped out at week #53, 1 week after the OEM warranty expired.
Is Gmail and Google calender pretty well synchronized with the 4S like the Evo?

Herr Doktor...you're very cool in my books. If you buy an iPhone 4S, your coolness meter will fall beyond the Peewee-Herman line. IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT!??!??
Buy an Android. Do it for yourself. Your soul. Your dignity.
And besides, you don't need an iPhone to inflate your ego. You're a doctor and drive a fawking Porsche.

H, I seriously have an Ipod adaptor for my 911, for my stereo in my weight room, for my stereo in my living room, for my stereo in my bedroom, and for my stereo in my kitchen.
I thought it may be nice to have one music player/phone rather than carry around 2 separate devices.
Can you elaborate on WiMAX? Will it make my web surfing experience better? I don't use Wifi or Bluetooth at all on my Evo FYI.
Matt, can you use Gmail and Google calendar/contacts with 4S?

As far as contacts and calendar. GMail allows you to export your contacts into a .csv file which you can then import into iTunes. For the calendar, I believe Google Calendar allows you to export the data as well to import into iCal. The iCloud will provide the syncing from then on once transferred over.
TouchWiz 4 isn't bad. I actually like the functionality it brings compared to its other iterations. WiMAX = 4G for Sprint. Sprint is, however, switching to LTE starting next year. No one's sure what's gonna happen with the WiMAX phones yet because to change from WiMAX to LTE, all Sprint needs to do is flash their towers with a different firmware. Its the reason why the 4S doesn't have it because they're waiting it out to see what direction they head.

I've got gmail synced with my iPhone.
I could do my calendar too but I don't use it.
Do they have an audio jack that you can just plug in your phone into? Sure it won't charge but I gave my iPod to my gf after Google Music came out. Stream all of my music from my phone.

Only my Honda Element has an Aux jack I stream Pandora through. It doesn't recharge the phone as you mentioned. I spent some coin getting the special Ipod docks for my Yamaha receiver in the living room and my Sony Soundbar in my weight room. The bedroom and kitchen have dedicated Sony and Altec Ipod stereos respectively. All 4 of the above recharge the device which is key.
So what you are saying is I need to manually export my Gmail, Calendar, and contacts data? That would be a deal breaker for me.

Got it. 4G is super crappy out here in H-town and drains the battery as the Evo searches for a signal.

It sounds like you already have your mind set on the 4S. If 4G isn't important to you then you probably don't need a phone that's capable of using it. The S II will most likely get ICS but if you don't want to play those odds or not into rooting then go for the 4S.
Ehhh you just gotta add gmail as an email account and the tell it to sync your mail and calendar.

Its a one time thing to transfer from one platform to the other. After your GMail contacts and calendar are transferred over to iTunes and iCal, any changes you make on the iPhone will sync via iCloud. However, to get back to GMail, you'll need to transfer them manually again from iTunes and iCal to GMail and Calendar.

OK that may be a deal breaker then. I use my Evo as my date book and if I input the dates of a medical conference when I'm at home on my Evo, I expect to have the dates when I open Google Calender on my desktop the next day at work and vice-versa. This is one particular quality that makes Android so appealing to me. I need the info to flow seamlessly and instantly between desktop and Evo regarding Gmail, Calender, and google contacts.
It's also why I got a Nook Color instead of an Ipad.
Well this is interesting. Samsung's sign up page for the Galaxy Nexus has 7 carriers which include Sprint. So maybe it'll be coming to Sprint? Maybe Google is still figuring out the details with the carriers at the moment.

Also ICS source code won't be dropped until the phone is released so CM9 won't come out until after that time period.

If you put something on the calendar app of your iphone, does it show up on the google calendar of your desktop? I thought it was more of a one way thing.

I say Galaxy Nexus for sure is going to be on Verizon and then everyone else will have to buy the international GSM version.
sorry to burst your bubble, but that page is just for gathering interest and data to see which carriers has the most people that are interested. The Galaxy Nexus does not have any radio bands that would really work with Sprint, besides the whole part about Sprint paying Apple 20 billion for iphone 4/4s products, they won't have any money to shell out for real phones.
