Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
So if you use the latest Nova Launcher Beta and change the "App Animation" inside the "Look and Feel Menu" to Jelly Bean 4.1, you will get the launching animation I was talking about. Its still missing in the multitasking menu but otherwise, the transition animations are as close it'll get to Jelly Bean on ICS.

Try any of the XDA forums of the phones with the same resolution as the S III (Note, Nexus, HTC One X). Look specifically in the Themes and Apps section. Here's a pretty good thread of people's set up and they usually post their wallpapers if you see something you like:

The AT&T Galaxy Note is getting ICS officially tomorrow. Some people at XDA are saying its already on Kies if you're on stock and want to grab it. Maybe someone posted the image on XDA and you can flash it using ODIN if you don't want to use KIES.

If it got CM9, then there's a good change it'll get CM 10. Also, I believe the other carriers got their updates for ICS so Sprint is just holding them back on something. Probably testing out the LTE function.

It looks like the AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ICS update is out as well via Kies:

I don't understand why Samsung uses that piece of crap. Then again, I don't have to worry about it since I only run custom ROMs. Lol.

Android 4.1 will be released to AOSP today!
You guys hear about the Ouya?
$99 Android powered gaming console running Android 4.0. Will be unlocked and rooting won't void the warranty. Sounds really interesting. What the Q should've been although they've hacked the Q to start up a launcher now. Will post that in its thread.

Some rumored specs have surfaced, though. First up is an even larger screen, which has been pegged at 5.5 inches. The Galaxy Note 2 will also reportedly be upgraded to a quad-core processor, and Samsung is thought to be bumping the rear-facing camera up to a 12 or 13 megapixel sensor.
While the upgraded hardware sounds pretty good, the software sounds sweet, too. Samsung just might bring the Galaxy Note 2 to market with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preinstalled. The original Galaxy Note arrived with the two-version-old Gingerbread, and it took seven months for the ICS update to begin rolling out.

In regards to the Verizon S III Variant:
The S III on Verizon is different than the other variants because Verizon decided to lock the bootloader down like it did with the Droid X and other Droid devices. While the normal user won't notice the difference between a locked bootloader and an unlocked one, this greatly turns away a lot of devs from it and will make it harder for anyone to port any custom ROMs onto it.

A smartphone is a smartphone and what I need it for, waiting around is not going to change the fact I need to replace the Desire now rather than later.
A new Nexus won't be announced until around Christmas season as it usually does. If its anything like the previous Nexus where it dropped to half its original price unlocked from the Play Store within 6 months at Google I/O, then its probably better to wait for that drop. Then again, the wait would depend on what phone you're currently on.
Jelly Bean is being pushed officially to the GSM Galaxy Nexus
The rollout of Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, begins today, starting with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ devices.
Jelly Bean makes everything feel fast, fluid, and smooth. Notifications are expandable and actionable, widgets are magical and the keyboard is smarter and more accurate: http://www.android.com/whatsnew/
Jelly Bean also features a redesigned search experience, with a new user interface and faster Voice Search. You can type your query or simply ask Google a question. Google can speak back to you, delivering a precise answer if it knows one, in addition to a list of search results.
Google Now is also part of the updated Google app, getting you just the right information at just the right time. Google Now tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, or your favorite team's score as they’re playing. There’s no digging required: cards appear at the moment you need them most.
If you’ve got a Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ device, you will receive a prompt alerting you to the update over the next several days. Up next for Jelly Bean: all Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, Motorola Xoom and of course, Nexus 7, which will ship with Jelly Bean later this month.

This means factory images should be up at the dev site if you want to go back to stock soon. My Nexus had to die at the wrong time.

MyScript Calculator
Pretty cool app and its free in the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...cts.calculator
Similar in functionality to the Note with their ICS update. Although, it doesn't do as complex equations yet. I'm sure they'll improve this app as it goes along.

I would do the same thing.
Jelly Bean OTA for the Takju GSM Nexus straight from Google:
http://android.clients.google.com/pa...D.edfff6d3.zip
You must have stock recovery and probably best to unroot before applying this OTA.

Well this is interesting:

Samsung is going to sell a version of the S III for Verizon with an unlocked bootloader from their website for $599. I wonder if they can somehow use the unlocked bootloader on the locked versions. I'm sure they'll figure it out so people with the Verizon version can benefit from this in some way.

...just curious, about the Jelly Bean update... Will I get the OTA? Or I won't now because it's rooted?
sorry for the noob question... but as I have mentioned in the past that I have no clue when it comes to rooting and customizing... but when I was in California last month, I had someone root my Galaxy Nexus... and it has CM9..

If you want to go back to stock, grab the factory images here and use fastboot:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You will want either the Takju or the Yakju. Takju is preferable but either will work for the GSM Nexus.
If that's still too technical for you, use the Wugfresh toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1454314
This will automate everything for you to get back to stock. Just make sure to backup your stuff before attempting any of the above.
Alternatively, since you already have a custom recovery and ROM, you could flash one of the many custom Jelly Bean ROMs at XDA without going back to stock. You will need to download any of them and place them on your internal memory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1737849
^That one is a good one as its closest to stock but it is rooted and deodexed for easier theming. It won't have all the custom tweaks CM9 added but if you can't wait for CM10, you can flash the above using CWM. Make sure to backup first.
1) Reboot to recovery
2) Wipe Data and Factory Reset
3) Advanced --> Wipe Dalvik Cace
4) Go back --> Install from zip
5) Scroll down to the zip file from the thread above and install
6) Reboot (you don't need to flash GApps with the zip above as it already contains them)
You should be booting up into a clean Jelly Bean.

got updated my Galaxy Note to ICS (dont laff) and damn i love the OS already....snappier/Contacts is a lot better/call logs get grouped/notifications are better/
falling in love with the phone all over again

wooohooo jelly bean is AMAZING! lol
Soo much smoother. The animations are amazing, make my phone feel more grown up. The new notification bar is elegant, makes me wonder wtf was with the old one lol. Not to mention the buttery smoothness
. I've also noticed when i bring up recently used apps it actually comes up right away something that didnt happen to me in ICS or any equivalent ROM, which is why i never used it. But now its almost instantly!
So far there is TWO things i dont like right now. One i think they increased the bottom line of the keyboard's length. So i'm miss typing a lot and hitting period instead of m. Among the others, thats just the most common.
The other, with the new predictive text which is accurate for articles/prepositions right now, when i press space i dont have the shortcut to the exclamations/question marks. I liked that placement since i use them a lot haha. But these are things i'll get used too overtime. Still gonna play with it more.
For now my port doesnt support video recording and it seems playing videos from the browser, and supposedly voice search (havent tried that one yet). But these are things i can live without till i get my actual Jelly Bean ROM
