Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
All the new Jelly Bean features that they talked about and that they didn't talk about:

Really like the new TTS voice. It sounds more natural than the one they have in ICS and the new notification bar looks awesome with the resizable notifications. Project butter looks interesting as well. The new Google Search with the Google Now feature is pretty cool. Lot of new features incoming.

I am big dumb on a lot of things including the software/firmware on cell phones.
In every day terms, are the flashes like putting a cold intake system on an Acura for 7 extra HP? Or is it more of letting the user modify their screens?
If I start to mod my phone, will something be better in placing calls, text, and connection to the net?
Thanks

A solid custom ROM is CyanogenMod because its based on AOSP and usually what most custom ROMs base their builds on. Once you learn how to flash on one device, you pretty much do the same thing on any other Android device. The hardest part will be installing the SDK and rooting the phone. From there on, its just a matter of picking which ROM you want to flash and then setting your phone up all over again. Watch some videos and read a few threads on XDA to learn how to do it. There are a lot of tutorials out there for every device.

I always laugh at people using an ipad as a camera... before the 3 the ipad's camera is probably worse than the camera in your phone.
But I think they should allow you to be able to take pics with the front camera. They dont have a photos app so i dunno if thats available for the Nexus 7. That I think is not a good idea if its true.

Oh the web version of the Play Store just got updated too. You can now update/uninstall from the My Apps section. Still no way to remove the list of apps you installed though. Maybe its coming next version.

You can see the animation they implemented. Pretty slick. I can see how this could be useful for a wedding or big event where people can share their photos on the fly on a live slideshow.

I use it a lot. I actually prefer that my friends stay on Facebook because I really hate the ego, pity me, chainletter like posts in Facebook. I've circled a lot of car, tech, science, and funny sites on G+ and find a lot of interesting articles on there daily. Its more of a higher intellectual discussion forum than a personal/friend forum for me. Its funny cause a lot of the stuff that shows up here on Acurazine I normally see in the What's Hot section so I don't spend as much time on here because it becomes a rehash of that stuff in Ramblings. I only keep Facebook because it allows me to sync my contact pictures with HaxSync. lol.

However, for some reason, the times stay in Pacific Time only regardless of where you live and if you change your time zone. HaxSync does a better job IMO.
Oh and speaking of Facebook. They changed everyone's emails to @facebook.com without telling anyone. You can change it back yourself by editing your profile info:

Good overview of What's New with Jelly Bean from Gizmodo (Yeah really):

I'm really excited for Google glasses, I would totally buy a pair for using on my motorcycle. Having navigation/traffic alerts displayed or video from a small rear facing helmet cam would be awesome.
google now vs siri

Google's stance on Tablet UI has always been there's no need for a separate "Tablet app" if the Developer creates their app properly using fragments. It bases it on the DPI and resolution and the app will adjust accordingly. You could always sideload a Tablet app and see if it'll work but for the most part, Google doesn't want separate Phone and Tablet apps in the market at it confuses people. They want one app that can translate into either form factor depending on the DPI and resolution.

My internet is so damn slow over here. 21 more minutes until its complete.
A full 4.1 Nandroid if you don't want to flash to IMM30D then to Jelly Bean:

They're working on a Verizon update. I'm guessing it'll be out tomorrow.

Woo Jelly Bean is running!
Pics up in a bit. Animations are beautiful and its a lot smoother than ICS! Almost on par with the iPhone in terms of smoothness. There is room for improvement but I can see that coming along with custom Kernels and some more tweaking.

Jelly Bean Pics
First setup:

New Lockscreen with Google Now/Search:
Clfgl.png
The home screen (Notice Google Chrome not preinstalled. Not sure why.)
TspTk.png
Keyboard (Notice the back arrow):
qELnf.png jPP1n.png
Slide up to access Google Now/Search on any Screen:
r53Ey.png krf7z.png o4Nqs.png
New Notification bar (expanded and then condensed with a two finger slide up):
fudhk.png Z2gSf.png
Lots of new transition animations that are really slick. Fling up to delete pics in the Gallery like getting rid of cards in WebOS is really awesome. Pinch out to access the thumbnails a lot faster. Lots of UI tweaks here and there. Overall, its smoother than ICS. I had some issues with WiFi but I fixed it with a Static IP. Hopefully someone will come up with a proper fix on XDA. Gotta look. Might make this my daily for the time being...
Oh also forgot to mention. The Boot Animation is a minimalistic Nexus X and it looks awesome. Its different from the Nexus 7 boot animation. Boot time is a lot faster than ICS as well but maybe because I don't have that many apps installed yet.
