Update to above. It works! Ran the BB 9360 Simulator. Push notifications for Facebook are finally going through for me. Now I can turn off email notifications. Maybe I'll start using Facebook again. lol.

It used to work for me the first time they turned on push notifications but that was a long time ago. After that, I never got one ever again. Always had to rely on email updates to get any notification or Tweetdeck checking it for me every 2 hours. Most people who are using Sense, Blur or previous BB owners never noticed it since they use a different method of getting push notifications. For Vanilla Android, FB handled push notifications on its own and something got messed up along the way. Of course, FB doesn't care if it gets fixed because they want us to use the browser because that's how they get money through showing ads on there.

I flashed the ICS rom. Its slow since it isnt accelerated yet. It also wouldnt connect to the market for some reason, so I couldnt download my apps. Therefore, it was useless to me and I went back to CM7.

I did play around with it a bit though. I like how there is data usage in the settings menu. The browser menus were nicely laid out as well. The whole UI is very nice to look at. They definitely polished it. I cant wait for either an official release or the CM version.

So Paul at Modaco (He's from the UK for the people that don't know) received his Galaxy Nexus today and decided to root it. Looks like a One Click method:

You can follow/ask him Qs about the phone on his twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/PaulOBrien

Hmm...I don't think any one asked him yet. T-Mobile uses different bands from the rest of the world. It'll most likely work for AT&T but if its pentaband like all the people who had hands on with it said, then it should work for T-Mobile. Could try asking on his forums. He has some pics of it comparing it to the S II and Titan:

I'm going to take a break from the iphones and try something new for a change. I'm looking at the Galaxy SII Skyrocket that's supposed to come out this weekend.

Big question I have is do android phones like this sell out in the stores on release day?

I would be surprised if you can't get a sky rocket on release day.

At regular price probably not a problem. On a special, then good luck. Usually, Amazon or Wirefly (sometimes the carriers) have discounts online for upgrades on the day of release but you need to catch them early cause people jump on them pretty fast.

The Skyrocket will have a 4.5" Display and LTE. Resolution is still 800x480, however. Think of it as the the T-Mobile's Galaxy S II variant but for AT&T just with LTE and probably the same Qualcomm processor which is a tad bit slower than the Exynos.

So the Rezound has some interesting Display Specs:

4.3" 720p display. It now has a higher PPI than the iPhone 4.

Rezound > iPhone 4S > Galaxy Nexus in terms of PPI. Should be interesting how nice the display on that thing is. Too bad HTC didn't make it any slimmer.

Yea very disappointed in the thickness of the Rezound. Also sucks they brought the red accents back. I prefer the silver accents much better like they used on the Thunderbolt. The read accents I hated on my incredible. Just doesn't look as classy in my opinion which I think a high end smartphone should but that is just me.

You probably can't. Unless you use your phone with a microscope. lol. I seriously don't find the Retina Display to be any better than a regular screen but maybe that's because I don't hold my phone very close to my eye...

HTC needs to start going slim. I don't understand how their devices haven't gotten any slimmer when all the other companies have been doing it and even pushing it like the RAZR. Then again, HTC has never been known for their striking designs. I think the Incredible was their best design, the others I'm not a big fan of. Sense is also starting to look stale. Wonder how they'll transition that into ICS or if they'll just drop it all together and just add the widgets.

I will say that the Retina display is noticeably better than my 3GS screen. I dunno about all those pixel counts and what not, but from my eyes the edges are much smoother. If I had to describe it, I would say on the Retina display an O looks like a perfect circle basically while on other displays it looks like 40 tiny straight lines interlinked with each other to form a circular shape

^I should've been more specific. What I meant was the SuperAMOLED screens aren't really that bad compared to the Retina Display. But I am using mines with Voodoo Colors which I can adjust RGB and gamma settings. Really love the colors and contrast on SuperAMOLED screens. Can't really get that in other screen techs at the moment.

Well this was unexpected. Samsung Fascinate running an early build of ICS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QrKv9LMggU

They got GPU and HW acceleration working. I was expecting this to be on the other Galaxy S before the Fascinate. Well its just a matter of porting it to the other variants since now they have a good base. More info here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1330558

WORKING:
GPU Acceleration (has some quirks, but quite snappy though)
Wifi
Audio
Touchscreen

NOT WORKING:
Radio (sometimes consume CPU so I disable the RIL)
Bluetooth
Camera
etc

KNOWN BUG:
binder sometimes get unresponsive, thus led to system crash
Some app might be crash (parcel related or missing native libs)

Voodoo made all the difference. The stock colors looked a bit too blue. My friend used to have AMOLED screens until I showed him mine. Now he wants a Samsung.

BTW - Who here is on Verizon? Do you like them? TMobile is pissing me off lately and Im thinking about switching. Im just not sure if I want a CDMA phone again. I like being able to switch my phone whenever I feel like it.

Speaking of tuning the SuperAMOLED screens, have you guys tried Supercurio's new Voodoo Screen Tuning app:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

Devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Galaxy S first-gen
- Samsung Infuse 4G
- Samsung DROID Charge support
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" original
Root is required and your kernel has to support it. He supposedly played around with some hidden settings in the SuperAMOLED's mDNIe features (the stuff they use on their HDTVs) to get rid of even more pixelation from texts. I haven't had the chance yet cause the kernel I'm using doesn't support the feature yet. Will give it a go around once it does though.

I think for the Nexus S, you could just factory reset/wipe then flash the original ROMs. I just went back to a stock TouchWiz ROM right now as well. Samsung really stepped it up with the recent TouchWiz Roms. JVT (2.3.5) is flying! Anyone who hasn't tried out the JVT Roms for the Galaxy S is missing out. I decided to go back to stock cause I miss the features of the camera that Cyanogenmod couldn't match in terms of quality with their open source drivers and TouchWiz also accelerates the browser which helps with Flash videos. The homescreen launcher is also hardware accelerated in TouchWiz. I guess CM9 will gap the hardware acceleration in the future but man I've been missing it. I"ll probably stick to JVT until they get a stable ICS port. hehe.

Lol so I flashed an original/official 2.3.6 and I somehow lost my root

I remember the root I did before was different because I never unclocked my bootloader, but it looks like I'm gonna have to root my phone again so I can get titanium backup to work

You flashed a non-rooted rom. Next time, try to find a pre-rooted stock rom if you dont' want to lose root.

Yup from their Facebook page (When did Facebook become an official Press Release site?):

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades.

Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.

We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.

*US handsets

Interesting to note its their "first wave". Maybe more to come?

AT&T's first pair of LTE-capable smartphones -- the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and HTC Vivid -- are available for purchase today for $249 and $199 $149 and $99 (AT&T apparently lowered the price since the announcement) respectively. While both phones will function fine on AT&T's existing HSPA+ network, the cities where you can actually get LTE data are still pretty limited. As of today, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Boston, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Athens, Ga.

The Skyrocket pairs alongside the Galaxy S II already in AT&T's stable, but it ups the Super AMOLED Plus display (at 480x800) to 4.5 inches. It's also got a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8MP rear-facing camer with LED flash, 2MP front-facing camera, 1080p video recording, 16GB of on-board stoarge, and a microSD card slot.

The HTC Vivid has a 4.5-inch qHD display at 540x960 resolution. It's got a 1.2 GHz processor, 8MP rear camera with 1080p video recording, 16GB of on-board storage and a microSD card slot.

lol. Good call. I was just curious as to what changes Samsung made to TouchWiz for the Galaxy S. The touchscreen sensitivity got to me, otherwise, I would've stayed on it. For some reason, they toned it way down so that I had to tap the screen multiple times for my finger to register on the screen. I tried to change the sensitivity but for some reason it didn't help too much. I guess I got used to the Cyanogenmod touchscreen sensitivity. For now, I'm on MIUI and keeping an eye on the ICS port they have going on at XDA. They just got the touchscreen working properly. I think I'll give it a try once they get calls and WiFi working which should be any time now.

Can we talk tablets here? With that new Nook Tablet I think I'd likely go refurbed (1 year warranty intact) Nook Color with CM. $150 for an Android tablet with access to Android market, Netflix, and expendable memory. Not bad huh?

Yeah the Nook Color is a good device. I think someone has it here, can't remember. It will most likely get CM 9 as there is a big dev following for it. The Nook Tablet is looking good as well and not badly priced. I think it has a better hackability than the Kindle Fire because its still Android at the core unlike the Fire which is very modified and doesn't have access to the Android Market. Plus, you would have to subscribe to everything Amazon which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just ties you down. If I had to choose between the Kindle and the Nook, I'd take the Nook for hackability and futureproof from the XDA devs.
