Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Grrrrrrrr. Im getting annoyed at Samsung. The rear speaker on my Nexus S died so I sent it in for repairs on August . A week later they tell me the part is on backorder and cannot give me an ETA. Im using my old Slide, which is a piece of shit.
Do you guys let your phone completely die before charging it.
Right now on my Droid 3 im at 60% says about 4 hours 30 min left, i'm on it off and on. But if i really only have 4 hours left it will die on me around 2 and I dont leave work till 330

With newer battery technology there's really no reason to complete discharge before putting it back on the charger. My Nexus S usually has 20-30% after 35-40hrs (extended battery FTW) before I charge it again. The Slide dies in about 8hrs, so Im usually charging it when its down to <5%.
only did that in the beginning when I got the phone to drain out the initial charge that came out of the box.
Just got my Bionic.
First impressions...
1. Very fast
2. Smooth transitions
3. Vibrant in the sunlight
4. I can see pentile is grainy a bit but I'm not turned off by or not yet anyway
5. Feels lighter or about same weight as my OG Droid
6. Will have to get used to buttons being rearranged at the bottom
7. Motoblur not bothering me
8. call quality/reception seems on par with my OG if not slightly better
9. I miss the dedicated camera button, feels strange to let it autofocus itself

Just got mine too. Everything he said is on point although im coming from the blackberry tour. The only thing I dont like is the fact that its trying to shove social networking down your throat. I dont like the fact that fb and twitter are so invasive. I had to delete the apps because I kept getting notifications on my home screen about who uploaded a picture and who commented on it etc
Then it takes all your facebook contacts, takes any info it can from the profile page and throws them in the phonebook. Thats taking it a tad too far. I think I'll just keep fb on my computer for now. At least there I still have complete control over it

oh, you can also hold-click on the "focus" icon thingy in the center of the screen and drag that to focus on other things on your overall picture before taking a picture.
Otherwise this thing is awesome. Im glad I upgraded from the blackberry. Battery life does suck but once I get over my initial excitement and become a little more frugal with energy usage I'll learn to deal with it. Or buy the extended battery
Is there a way to download and install a full version of the Gingerbread OS 2.3.4 for the nexus one? I'd like to do a clean install of the stock OS on my brothers phone instead of just doing a delta update and see if that fixes his problems. I don't want to put a custom ROM on his phone.
mmm without being rooted, I think the only way is to do a factory reset.
You can be rooted and download the full stock version, probably find it somewhere on XDA forums, and install it that way. I remember I found a backup of stock gingerbread 2.3.1 when I first rooted my phone and tried a custom ROM without realizing I never backed up my original ROM.

I don't think you have to be a dev to register. HTC posts all of their stock images for all of their devices on there. I don't have a Nexus One but when I had my HTC Ion, all of the stock images were on HTC's website and you can revert to stock easily using Fastboot. All instructions should be in there but you'll most likely need to install the Android SDK to get ADB access. XDA should also have stock images you can flash as well.
Question regarding Skyfire browser...I like it better than the stock browser but the one thing that bothers me is that when it imported the bookmarks over, the order is backwards, and I can't seem to figure out how to reverse it, anyone have a clue?
why did you choose skyfire?
I know iphone people did it to watch flash vids, I had it ont he iphone a while back and didnt like it
i've yet to experience a problem with mine, other than reboots due to ROM/kernel not being stock
Skyfire is too slow to load in iOS IMO compared to Safari. I really only use it to leave pages open that I don't want to exactly delete like the gamefaq for Final Fantasy 3. I rarely watch Flash vid on it as I tend to use Netflix, Xfinity, or HBO Go.
Im trying to think of entertaining ways to destroy the Slide once my NS comes back.
Yea, I have no problem with Samsung hardware and will continue to buy from them. But I still have yet to get my phone or any other confirmation that they have finished the repair. Its been with them for almost 2 weeks.

I have my iphone 3G as a backup in case anything goes wrong, although i dont wanna go back to it...
I dont think I can go back to an Iphone. Even the 4 just doesnt impress me. Sure its quick, but the NS is just as quick. Maybe we are missing like HD video but we have having an open platform>>>>>HD cameras
So I dunno how many of you are running CM7, but I just found a neat little feature, I dunno if you guys use gestures, but they have it for the messaging app. So I set it up that when I draw a circle the "driving I'll text you later" template comes up and I just send that. Found that really handy and I've been doing it only a couple days. SO awesome, also I use gestures on my lockscreen to enable things like flashlight or go straight into messenger

For FreeStyle drawing, Sketchbook Pro is excellent. It works very well with a capacitive stylus and a bunch of brushes are available within the program. This version is for Tablets and it works well with the Transformer:

If you're talking about NoteTaking, then its probably Skitch:

It integrates with Evernote but I don't think you need it to be installed.
I've been slacking with my android phone. I'm running MIUI 090909, but I hardly use it. Work gave me an iPhone 4 and I use that a bunch more.
The android exchange integration is beyond flaky. I always have to reboot my phone to update my emails. Not very practical.
It would be nice if I could forward my texts (like I can with calls) to my work phone so I wouldn't have carry two phones.

So after using MIUI for the past couple of months, I decided to back to CM7 again and see what's new. I'm not exactly sure what they did but my phone is flying with CM7 and I'm not even overclocked right now. I thought MIUI and CM7 would be the same speed wise but CM7 is on another level right now. They also just added a new lockscreen, Ring, which looks like the following:

Its a play on HTC's new lockscreen but you can customize which apps you want on there.
