You could ask your carrier but they have to be selling the phone I believe. So long as your account is in good standing, meaning you haven't missed any payments recently. Just tell them you're going out of the country and would like to use your phone. You give them the IMEI number and then they'll email you an unlock code within 24-48 hours. There are exceptions though but for the most part, they should be able to unlock most phones. If they can't do it, then you'll have to use an unlocking service or an eBay seller. Sometimes, if the phone is popular enough, XDA has an unlocking tool. I know they have it for the Samsung phones, not sure if they have for HTC phones.

Stumbled upon a minor but real annoying problem.

Just started using google music to upload all my music to the cloud.... every song without album art gets the same incorrect album art. I tried restarting google music, logging out of my google account and it still does it.

None of these songs have any art at all in iTunes, I don't get it

It's most likely something to do with the metadata in your music. The songs that don't have album artwork for me have standard Google Music icons.

Also, GM does read your musics metadata and autofill it with what it thinks should be the artwork. So it must be reading something in your data.

I have the same issue. I think its due to what Gibson said.

I have an extended battery for my Nexus S, 3500mah vs the stock 1500mah.

I was also running Mathkid's Matrix v14.5 kernel. I used NSTools to set up the CPU, 200mhz min and 800mhz max (underclocked from 1ghz max). I used SIO scheduler, and lulzactive governor. Whenever I was at home, I switched on WiFi as well. I have GMail, Google Music, News and Weather, and FeedR syncing. News and Weather syncs every hour and FeedR syncs every four I believe.

After I did that, I switched from that kernel to Francos kernel and my battery life went down the drain I also find that its not as stable and Matrix. Ill be switching to Matrix v15 sometime today.

So I just came across this app (Stick It!) which is pretty cool I must say:

https://market.android.com/details?i...sageek.stickit

Seems to work on Froyo and up. There's also a calculator windowed app which allows you to use it on any screen made by the same dev.

https://market.android.com/details?i...y5haXJjYWxjIl0.

I could see this being more useful on tablets or phones with bigger screens.

One of the kernel devs on XDA got USB OTG working on the Galaxy S running JVU (Gingerbread) and up (ICS). More info here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1450298

I know CM9 and the build by OneCosmic is trying to incorporate it into the ROMs as well.

You don't need to as it doesn't touch any of the main caches. You can wipe Dalvik and cache though without any issues.

So I decided to try out this tweak regarding smoother scrolling and more incremental steps in volume control for my Galaxy S and my Transformer. (Not sure if it works in ICS and I didn't feel that my Galaxy Nexus needed it):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1411317

^Instructions on how to baksmali/smali and which lines to change are in the above link. Its a little difficult to understand but the pictures do help a lot and its pretty easy once you figure it out. You don't need to do both mods as they are independent of each other.

So far I have to say there is a noticeable change in terms of scrolling. Especially in the stock Honeycomb browser. The white squares are almost all gone now and scrolling in the Pulse app is a lot smoother than before. On my Galaxy S, scrolling in some apps is much improved. I also combined it with the browser HW acceleration that someone compiled for CM7:

Nice. Yeah the ICS alphas have been pretty smooth so far. I'm actually waiting to get back on them though as I went back to CM7 for battery life and browser performance. Was gonna try the ICS alpha for the Transformer but I'm waiting for a few more things to be fixed. I'm typing this on my Transformer while Bluetooth tethering off my Galaxy Nexus right now. Works quite well actually cause for some reason the WiFi access point where I'm at doesn't work properly. Good thing I have reception here. lol.

If you flash through ODIN you don't need root. if you're flashing through CWM then you'll need root to flash CWM recovery. Once the official OTA drops you could just flash through stock recovery but who knows when that'll drop. Probably soon though if this leak is looking good.

That's pretty impractical. Since you can't resize the screen of the other app running the video will always be over top of the other app and you'll constantly be moving it around to get it out of the way.

This reminds me of the multitasking that will be in windows 8 where you can watch a video (or any app really) and use another app at the same time but you'll be able to resize the apps so that the video isn't overlayed on the app behind it, the video app and other app resize to accommodate and share the screen with each other.

Bought me a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S couple of weeks ago. Coming from HTC HD2 this feels like feather in my hands. Very light for such a big phone. Touch screen in much better and more responsive that HD2. Best thing is the sound. Crystal clear music. I love Sony Ericsson...lol

Well supercurio is saying don't flash the Nexus S leak:

A @SamsungMobile contact tells me #NexusS4G ICS 4.0.4 "leak", pulled down by Google creates issues. Please avoid it for now & stay tuned.

Take that as you will.

I'm a huge fan of SE phone designs. I saw the Arc S a few months ago and thought it was pretty nice. Now that they're actually helping the Cyanogenmod team I think they have a good chance of making more awesome phones.

I dont see 4.0.4 being much different than 4.0.3. The NS4G got 2.3.7 while the GSM version got 2.3.6, and the differences were minimal.

Yeah probably some bug fixes. Oh well as long as it drops to AOSP soon after I'm sure XDA will have it.

On another note, my Google Wallet has started getting updates from the Market directly. Not sure what Google changed but it shows up in the "My Apps" section and updates without any issue. Ive already used up my free $10 from Google and need to top up. Its just the terms I'm confused with. It says there is a $2 maintenance fee each month if it isn't used at least once a month, otherwise it is waived? Not sure if I'm reading it right.

As someone who is completely new to this rooting stuff. I went ahead and rooted my old EVO 4G using the following guide.

http://www.androidauthority.com/how-...-update-21656/

Now what? lol.

I have tried browsing the android forums to get more acquainted with this whole idea of rooting and its benefits but to no avail. There is just too much info for me to decipher at once. Can any of you pros help me get a grasp over things in layman's terms?

iLauncher is smooth and comes very close to the stock iOS launcher. Folder creation has been finally fixed in the recent updates so now you can just drag and drop icons onto each other to create a folder. Even the animation when you unlock the phone and the icons fly in is up to point. The only thing I wish it did was use the Home button to go back to the 1st page instead of using the Back button. Otherwise, this launcher is 90% similar to the iOS launcher.

Now what? lol.

I have tried browsing the android forums to get more acquainted with this whole idea of rooting and its benefits but to no avail. There is just too much info for me to decipher at once. Can any of you pros help me get a grasp over things in layman's terms?
In the Development sub-forum for your phone, choose a ROM you like, download the zip, and flash it through recovery.

This looks like a good starter read for the Evo 4G:

You may want to bookmark this page and make an account for XDA if you haven't already:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=619

Everything you could ever want to know is at XDA. Use YouTube to guide you with certain flashing processes and all that. Read the threads at XDA and you'll get an idea of what you can do to your phone. You can install custom ROMs, kernels, themes, etc. With custom kernels, you can Overclock, Underclock, Undervolt, run custom modules to enhance the phone like CIFS, etc.

Al except maybe NoLock will work WITHOUT root access.
