Microsoft offered $100 to anyone that could perform tasks on their own device faster than Windows Phone

Here's WP vs Galaxy Nexus...

Not to be going off topic but I played with a Windows Phone for a good 5 minutes and I am honestly impressed by it. I might actually switch to one when my contract is up.

So a follow up on these LG bluetooth headset. I bought them as the reviews were really good and I had my $20 for $40 at Newegg so I paid $23 after taxes. Newegg delivered them today (Next day delivery with the free shipping option. I guess its a perk of living right next to them. Lol.) and I must say I'm glad I bought them. Currently using them right now while I type this post with my ASUS Transformer and audio quality is actually really good. This is my first audio bluetooth stereo headset but I am impressed with sound quality as I was expecting them to not be that great. It has a bass boost mode which I prefer over the regular mode and it sounds good. Haven't used it for voice calls yet but I'm mainly going to use this for music listening. Its also very comfortable despite it looking clunky with the wires. It doesn't feel like its even on me.

I'm getting some crazy battery life with Franco's kernel and Bigxie's ROM:

This is the best battery life I've ever gotten on any smartphone thus far. WiFi was on throughout but from what I understand, Franco's kernels don't use the power saving mode so that it can get better WiFi range. With that said, 3G/HSPA+ battery life would be a bit shorter which would still be pretty impressive. Didn't really do any power savings besides the display being manually adjusted to the environment. Autosync always on and doing the usual stuff I normally do with my phone. Some people are saying LightFlow may be contributing to the high Android OS usage but its a small price to pay in my opinion for the functionality it adds. Also flashed his newer kernel somewhere there and rebooted the phone real quick.

Nice battery live. Im stuck running Ezekeels Glados kernel, which isnt very stable. The latest has an issue with reboots when Im on a phone call, and 2.4 is sluggish and occasionally reboots on its own. Matrix' kernel is fast as hell, but if I have wifi on and stream music, it reboots. I wish Franco would come back to us

Yeah the phone is totally different with his kernel and Bigxie's ROM. He added the ability to tweak the colors but need to pay for his app to do it easily. I might wait until Supercurio adds his Voodoo color but he seems to be focused on getting the Galaxy Note colors corrected first. Franco did say he is working on the Nexus S kernel so its coming:

Thats good to hear that hes still working on it. Im confident that whatever he puts out will blow the others out of the water, much like it did with the GB kernels.

You mean just a factory restore? No, you will just have to re-customize your phone.

Just tried out Navigation on my phone... took a bit for it to get initiated but it was smooth after that. Once I got to my destination (my house) it showed a picture of my driveway, cars parked in front that tripped me out for a bit. And I was giddy like a little girl.

Lol. Yeah, I like how it goes into Street View Mode once you get to your destination so you know how it looks like from the outside. I'm guessing you haven't played with the layers yet where you can show the satellite view instead of the regular map view along with realtime traffic. It uses more data but if you've got unlimited then it doesn't matter. I was able to play with the indoor maps a few days ago and that was pretty cool stuff. Was dropping off relatives at the airport and it pinpointed exactly which terminal they needed to be dropped off at.

Finally some stability!!!!

I flashed the latest CM9, Alpha 20p1, with Matrix v14.5.My phone doesnt seem to like LiveOC on ICS, so I have to leave that at 100%, but Im using sio scheduler, lulzactive governor, 200mhz min, 1200mhz max, with deep idle activated and I get no reboots and crazy battery life. I did have one reboot while using the camera, but I can live with that. With 100% liveOC, the phone actually feels snappier.

Mathkid (Matrix dev) applied the green screen patch for Voodoo colors which breaks the gamma sliders functionality, but he says Supercurio should be updating it soon.

Finally got my ZAGG shield on white Skyrocket. It's a damn lot harder to line up the pieces just right on a white versus black phone due to a lack of contrast.

I went full body, but I didn't put on the front screen protector because I think you fingers drag instead of sliding a bit more. I didn't put a front protector on my Captivate either... no scratches, and the glass is that good.

Apple still hasn't open sourced it despite their claims of making it open sourced when it was first announced. Knowing Apple, it probably won't ever be open sourced either but only they know that. For now, there isn't and probably won't be an app that'll allow you to do so using FaceTime. You can use one of the many alternative video chat apps though such as Skype, Oovoo, Tango, Fring etc.

^ I haven't heard anyone ask them about that. I guess they see it as a competitive advantage that they don't want to give to android.

I'd expect MS to integrate Skype into WP just like facetime is integrated into iOS and since it's on all platforms it'll continue the standard for video calling.

Quick Review of Samsung Galaxy S I (Captivate) v. Galaxy S II (Skyrocket)

Full Batteries for all comparisons.

1) The Skyrocket picks up 3 to 4 bars of connectivity (I don't live in a 4G area) compared to 1 or 2 bars on the Captivate.
2) Gingerbread has better power management tools like auto turning off bluetooth, GPS, wifi as the battery drains. Of course you can override all of this and keep it on.
3) The metal bezel (aluminum I think) gives the Skyrocket a solid feel, but the back is too smooth and is a plastic snap on. The Captivate has a better way of locking the cover in (bottom pops down then back up to snap the cover (textured) in place).
4) Power on is like a Apple... no waiting a minute or two for BS to load. The Captivate is alittle slow.
5)You buy a white Skyrocket but get a black USB cord... wtf.
6) The hand movements are pretty cool like turning the phone upside down mutes the phone. Of course you can override this option.

Of course this review doesn't get into the display, camera, etc... too many better reviews on the web on these topics. Just initial feedback.

Seriously I think they're meh. The difference is quite minimal and even less when you're running a custom ROM, kernel, with custom shortcuts and gestures. Do people really sit down and ask how fast they do certain things cause if they do that's just sad. Windows Phone has a great platform but I'm not a fan of the boring Metro UI. The Nokia phones look interesting though just wish there was a way to get rid of the Metro.

They were allowing people with custom ROMs to compete too, not sure if anyone in these videos were running one though

The problem in the vids is not so much what the results are but what Microsoft is trying to get at. They've been using the same marketing ever since they released WP7 and failed as shown in their market share. I want them to succeed, I really do because that would make iOS, Android and the competition that much better. In my opinion, they're marketing their phones all wrong. No one cares if you can post a status update .5 seconds faster than another phone, access the camera faster than another phone, etc. They should be showing people what you can do on a WP7 vs. other phones. Focus on the Xbox Live integration, something that's unique to their phones. They should be showing what makes a WP7 different and better than the others rather than I can do that too. If they choose to continue marketing it the way they do now, as a me too, then they need to differentiate their phones to be less ugly and I think they're making that step with the Nokia phones which I think look great.

It's not a raw speed thing, it's an ease of use thing. Windows Phone is not faster from tech spec standpoint, the nexus has twice the RAM and CPU power. But WP is designed to be easier to do many tasks right from within the phone without needing an app. You can take a pic, edit it, tag people in it and upload it to facebook, twitter, etc right from the builtin camera app.

You can see your friends fb status, tweets and you can comment on them, etc all from the contacts app. It's all about making it easier and therefore faster to get info and do things normal people like to do. I think people care about that, hence the success of Apple as the biggest tech company in the world.

A few seconds faster? No wifi enabled (not sure if it helps... ?) this is a speed test I did using 4G LTE:

On my iPhone it took quite a while to load up grainy resolution videos through youtube, even on wifi sometimes. Didn't have an option to load up high quality video, even. On my Nexus I can watch HD videos and it loads about as twice as fast as it plays on HD.

I did the same speed test at home and I got barely over 16 Mbps.

I dont have Facebook or Twitter, but with other apps like Photobucket, Dropbox, Box.net, Picasa, Google+ and the standard options like messaging and email, you have the options to upload media to them. Take a picture, click the preview, and the shortcuts are right there. Take a video, and you have the same options plus YouTube. It takes all of three seconds from clicking the shutter button to uploading it to your destination of choice (on my phone). But as I said, I dont know if that is the same for Facebook and Twitter.

You can see the camera app still in the background. And yes, my keyboard is dusty.

WP does have Android on integrating Facebook and Twitter into the contacts app - as far as I know. It does however show status' of Google Talk users and I believe it integrates Google+ as well.
