Motorola is pushing Jelly Bean update to Razr M.
http://www.motorola.com/blog/2012/11...rola-software/
This would make them the first in the US to release a Jelly Bean update and the phone just came out two months ago. Looks like Motorola is streamlining their update process as expected and a good sign of updating their phones on time. They're also starting to send out test builds for 4.2 if you sign up with them.
We know it’s important for many of you to get the latest Android software upgrades onto your phones as quickly as possible. With that in mind, we’re also introducing Test Drive, a new program that will allow consumers to take our major software upgrades for a trial run and provide valuable feedback before we launch the upgrade publicly. Starting with Android 4.2, the next iteration of Jelly Bean, we will release a preview of our software to a few hundred consumers that sign up for Test Drive. More details on how to sign-up and participate will be announced on the blog soon.
Going forward, we are going to focus our efforts so that we can deliver consistently high quality experiences to our users. Unfortunately that means not all phones will be getting upgrades. If you own a device that’s not getting upgraded, we’ve created the Motorola trade up program. The trade up program gives you $100 back on a new Motorola smartphone when you trade-in your old one–so you don’t have to miss out on Jelly Bean. For qualifying devices and more details, check out Motorola.com/tradeup.

Just thought i'd share this video of Samsung GS3 Androind 4.04 vs 4.1. 4.1 has a nice speed advantage. I cant wait for my EVO 4G LTE to get 4.1/4.2 withe Sense 4.x.

The Nokia Lumia 920 looks so goooooood!
Really wished it had Android on it, but WP8 is quite enticing. Not to mention the 920's camera in low light beats every single thing out there right now. It makes taking pictures in the dark look like you took that picture in the day.

the 920 is really really appealing. The only thing its missing is androids ecosystem for me haha. Google works best with android, and i rely on google a lot as do most of us. Plus i have paid apps and such so i dont wanna lose all of them haha.
I wish one day we get a nexus device to rival those that are top of the industry like the iphone 5 and 920.

The live tiles of WP8 still don't appeal to me and the lack of a notification center would drive me crazy although I hear it is coming. Also, I'm not really that deep into the Microsoft ecosystem as far as their services go which is another problem although I guess that could change if I start using Windows 8 on my laptop? Maybe if they open their integration out to other services then I'd seriously consider it and when their app ecosystem has grown?

So more evidence points to the unification of Google Voice, Messenger, GTalk and Hangouts are on the way:
https://plus.google.com/+ArvidBux/posts/PYaoYUjo4iB
Imagine if Android started integrating Google Voice completely for free phone calls via Google Voice. No setup, no fuss just use Google Voice to make and receive phone calls in Android. This would make the carriers dumb pipes for data as they should be. You wouldn't need to pay for minutes just for data access which is kinda what the Straight Talk for T-Mobile is doing now (gives you only 100 minutes with unlimited data up to 5GB for $30).
Then again, we don't know for sure how long Google Voice calling will remain free and the carriers would be quite pissed at it. With that said, they are straying away from carriers so it may become a reality as seen with the Nexus 4. It could probably be disabled at the carrier level if it does happen. I guess I have to keep dreaming until it happens.
"2013 will be the year of +Google+!"
Tuesday I had a breakfast session with +Bradley Horowitz. The event was hosted at +Google Nederland. As I wrote a Dutch article for +Dutchcowboys about it I promised that I would be making a summary and even attach my notes. Well, here it is!
- Currently no ads are displayed. No plans for the near future but all that can of course change
- A social networking site is not the best place to display advertisement
- Twitter and Facebook can only display ads on the social networking site
- Google uses the data collected via Google+ to target ads better on the different Google services
- Google+ helped Google remove the silos of all the different products
- A +1 for an add can lead to a higher CTR
- Not opening the API was a well thought through decision
- The API will be opened in the future (how far and when... no news)
- To ensure growth is organic, the API remained close. Users had to use Google+ instead of a 3rd party client
- You want to keep a conversation as authentic as possible. Spraying your update across multiple networks at once will not help you keep the conversation authentic
- Mobile is very important
- Half of the traffic comes from the mobile clients
- No new usage figures were shared (latest: Sept 17th: https://plus.google.com/+ArvidBux/posts/hn2upSwLVmN )
- Only certain numbers are shared every time as usage numbers are linked to Google's financial data. They can have an impact on the stock and earnings/revenue estimates
- Once Google publishes data once, they have to publish it every year
- Also for services like YouTube or Gmail not all figures are released
- 3rd parties can't measure it all as they don't have access to the real usage data. Besides that they don't measure mobile which is half of the traffic at Google+
- A merge between Voice, Google Talk, Hangouts and Messenger is on the roadmap
- Google News saw some features from Google+. Expect to see some Google News features in Google+
- Removing the silos for business users and making it easier for them to use Google products
- Only 20% of the planned features for Google+ have been rolled out

If that doesn't take you to Season 8, just navigate to it. Its the last episode, 11, MythBusters Top 25 Moments. If you guys haven't tried out the Play Store Videos then this is a good free episode to try it out with. Its an hour and a half long and its MythBusters.

Droid DNA is coming out to Verizon the same day the Nexus launches. Anyone getting it?
http://www.slashgear.com/verizon-dro...ured-11256498/
This is the same 5-inch HTC Phone that's supposed to have a 1080p display with a 440+ PPI screen that came out to Japan a few weeks. Specs similar to the Nexus so porting CM and AOSP builds should be a little bit easier as long as Verizon doesn't lock the bootloader.

I switch batteries on a regular basis and have with every phone since my Verizon VX6800 HTC WinMo phone. It is just something I am used too. Might not be every day but I use a second battery at least 2-3 times a week. I don't like the thought of being stranded with a dead phone. Now I know I can get one of those rechargeable battery packs so I can charge on the go but keeping that in my pocket along with a cable will be a lot compared to just an extra battery.
Spec wise though it is still my favorite upcoming phone. I like it better than the Note2 cause 5in seems just right. 5.5 seems a bit large to me. Although SD slot and removable battery make it nice.

Lots of good reviews out there on the device. It'll come down to how big is too big for your and your wife. If you don't use the phone to talk that much then its an excellent device as its quite huge to put next to your ear. Easily solved with a bluetooth headset but could be an inconvenience. Also, Verizon is pasting its logo onto the home button for whatever reason.
Some people are selling stickers to go over it. Lol.

We both don't really talk on the phone much. But we do web surfing A LOT.
So, sounds like a winner for us!
Man, gotta spend $299 x 2 for both of us. lol I'm sure it's worth it though.
Thanks again.

The expected OTA for the Nexus 4 and 10 devices just came out. I hope AOSP gets updated soon. ![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)

For the time being the Nexus 10 has but four widgets to choose from: Gmail, Calendar, Sound Search, and the digital clock. The 4 has all those same widgets, as well as one for messaging.
The widgets work just like homescreens - after you add a new widgets, just swipe through the lockscreen to access it. Tapping the widget itself will then highlight the unlock button - if you unlock the device while in this "mode," then you'll jump directly into the selected application. For example, if you highlight the Gmail widgets and then unlock the device, it will go straight into the Gmail app.
The other new feature is specific the Nexus 10: multiple user accounts. This feature has been a long time coming and will finally make it possible for a single family to easily share one tablet.

Also, the Nexus 4 seems to be dropping at midnight PST tonight in the US. It already came out in Australia and the 16 GB sold out within 20 minutes.
I hope they have enough stock to follow through:

Nexus 4 Bumpers are also up on the Play Store. Probably available the same time as the phone releases. $19.99 though which is a little high up there for a piece of rubber. It does look nice though:

I wish more colors would be available but then again eBay and the other markets will probably have that covered and far cheaper.

Brian Klug from Anandtech has some more pics of the new Lockscreen:
<a href="http://twitpic.com/bcrh1j" title="This is going to take some getting used to. Center just unloc... on Twitpic"><img src="http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/bcrh1j.png" width="150" height="150" alt="This is going to take some getting used to. It looks like the center ring only unlocks now. To get to Google Now, you have to swipe up like you would normally do when the phone is unlocked from the bottom of the screen. To get to the camera you swipe from the right side and to get to the widgets you slide from the left.

You can check in Google Maps it seems. GMaps --> Settings --> About --> Device
I believe if its from the Play Store its Takju. If its from outside the Play Store, its Yakju. Also, you could always switch between the two using the Google Factory images.

^Note that the "-w" will Wipe everything on your device. Backup everything out of your phone to a computer.

4.2 has some new transition animations like the Recent button when you're in an app. It minimizes into the window and a few other touches here and there. So far so good with root.

Anandtech's Review of the Nexus 4 is finally up. He was waiting for the OTA which fixed quite a few bugs that he had to rewrite certain parts of his review:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6440/g...nexus-4-review
Looks like they loved it and a great piece of kit for $300-$350 unlocked. This thing has sold out in the other countries within minutes so it looks like Google and LG has a winner. Google's Play Store kept crashing from everyone trying to grab one from what I'm reading. I won't be surprised if it goes down again when it releases at 9 today for the US.
You can go back and read what I've written about the Nexus 4 hardware — in a word it's superb. In-hand feel is awesome thanks to the rubber ring running around the perimeter of the Nexus 4, and build quality is also very good. I've fully disassembled my Nexus 4 three times and put it together without issue, and the Nexus 4 has taken a few trips to the floor (my fault) without any adverse effects.
Finally, there's also the matter of price. For $299 you can get the latest and greatest hardware and 8 GB of storage, and for $349 you can get double that storage with 16 GB (12.92 GB usable). Both are fully unlocked and carrier-agnostic, and at those prices the Nexus 4 pretty much blows the doors off of any other unlocked or out of contract smartphones, which usually end up being priced at around $600 or more.
If you're an Android enthusiast, the Nexus 4 is obviously the phone to have right now. The combination of APQ8064 and MDM9x15 is excellent in spite of some unfortunate thermal throttling, and we'll be seeing many more Fusion 3 based devices in time at prices well above the Nexus 4 out of contract. At a fundamental level there is quite literally no better vehicle out there for Google to communicate its smartphone platform via than the yearly Nexus refresh. On its own, the Nexus 4 would otherwise be phenomenally great hardware. As a Nexus, it's a level even beyond that.
Google has come an exceptionally long way since that first Nexus One.

Goodbye.
I really want to get one but I think I'll save myself the headache, heartache, and stress of fighting to get one over the course of 30 seconds.
I have a sinking feeling that the reason it sold out in EU and Aus so fast has more to do with lack of supply more than anything...
Probably wait a few months for the 32gb version.

So it looks like Google's Nexus inventory got demolished as well within a few minutes of release. I hope they'll have enough stock come next month. At least 4.2 is being pushed to AOSP now so custom Roms and kernels should be up soon. Factory images for Nexus 10, 7, 4, and Galaxy Nexus Takju are up:

If you can't wait for the OTA or want to start clean.
