I wonder why nobody has cashed in on that offer...
Attention, Vancouver shoplifters: You could be eligible for $50 in free spa treatments.
But there is a catch: In exchange for the pampering, the recipient must turn himself in for the role played in the riots, arson and looting that followed Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.
A Vancouver spa is hoping its offer of $50 worth of pampering will convince rioters to come clean.
Vancouver-area Eccotique Spa and Salon is making the offer four months after millions of dollars in property damage resulted after the Vancouver Canucks' Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins.
"We'll get them nicely manicured for a court date or prison or whatever punishment they're going to get but we want to make sure they're going to get punished for what they did," spa owner Milajne Soligo said, according to The Star of Toronto.
"You didn't pay for anything at the riots. Why stop now?" asks the spa's advertisement, which features a young man in a mock Vancouver police mug shot sporting a bright green facial mask and a towel wrapped around his head.
As one might expect with such an offer, some restrictions apply. To qualify, the candidate must show photo ID, explain his role in the riots, then apply his fingerprints to a certificate -- which must be taken to the police.
Bring back the official arrest form, and there will be a $50 gift certificate waiting, which can be applied toward a massage, manicure, facial or perhaps the Grouse Grind Glory Scrub, described on the spa's website as a "lemon zest and cedar-infused sea salt body exfoliation."
So far, no one has taken the spa up on the offer, according to media reports in Canada.
Some Canadians are put off by the spa using the riot in a playful marketing campaign.
"If it was April 1, I'd think it was a joke," Charles Gauthier of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association said, according to The Toronto Sun. "It's not something we'd recommend -- prizes for people to come forward."
Soligo isn't surprised that some reactions to the campaign have been negative. But she insists the larger aim is to get rioters to turn themselves in.
"Any company loves publicity," she said, according to the Sun. "But if we didn't do something that caught attention, no one would be talking about it. If it gets people to get charged, it doesn't matter to us. As long as we try to coax them into some confessions, that's the whole point of the campaign."

Yummy, I predict fireworks in Chicago. There may be some unfinished business after that bench chirping incident last year not to mention the B's need a spark to get this season in gear.
I'm thinking Thornton is going after someone in the first period. Sorry Dom, you'll have to postpone your euroweenie no hit NHL plans until after tomorrow night.

The experiment for Kane to play C for the Hawks is working out so far. He's getting his points and is one of the leaders in face-off percentage in the League.
Yes, it's early.

DiPietro Concussed After Being Hit by Shot
You have got to be kidding me.
New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro is out with a concussion again and there is no timetable for his return.
The Islanders announced Friday that DiPietro was struck in the mask on a shot by new teammate Brian Rolston during practice Wednesday. He underwent tests Thursday.
DiPietro has been sidelined by multiple concussions during his career. He didn't play in any of New York's first three regular-season games and has played a total of 39 games the past three seasons.
The 30-year-old goalie is in the sixth season of a landmark 15-year contract with the Islanders.

Okay, the choice (and death is not an option): Connolly's or DiPietro's glass-like bodies?

^ Was Connolly injured before signing his contract or did he get hurt in camp...?
Senior Moderator
He was hurt coming out of his mother's vagina. The guy is made of glass, there's no arguing it. Just shows you how desperate Burke was for some skill.

And yes, he was hurt in camp.
And I love how they still use the upper and lower body injury with Connolly. Does it matter????

Growing Pains as Russia Tries to Revive Elite Hockey
MOSCOW — With seconds left in the game, a quick wrist shot into the net — left vacant after the goalie was pulled— sealed a 6-3 victory for Dynamo Moscow over Barys Astana, a rival from the Central Asian nation of Kazakhstan.
The buzzer set cheerleaders in blue-sequined outfits gyrating to a techno beat, a modern and slightly awkward flourish for a team steeped in a tradition of Soviet rigidity. It was Dynamo’s first game on home ice at Luzhniki Small Sports Arena, itself a brick-columned monument to more than a half-century of athletic supremacy.
Dynamo, it seemed, might have been pulling out of an early slump. Two days later, it won again. The crowd at that game was marginally more impressive, and appreciably louder. What proved to be a 2-0 victory against Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg was more hard-fought and physical, occasionally illuminated by flashes of that sublime on-ice ballet that has been a hallmark of Russian hockey for decades.....

As well, I think the NHL has reached a point where there are no such thing as gimme-wins like how we grew up where there are just games you could circle on the calendar as a "for-sure win".
We can thank parity for that now. I think even the "worst" team is still dangerous now with how the NHL is structured now.
And lastly, your team doesn't have the best player on the planet skating with it yet. Nothing to be ashamed of being simply competitive.

I'm more impressed with the Oilers right now. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop esp. with that D of theirs.
But, so far so good. The kids can play.
