Is everyone ready for the Type S Concept? (Reveal Pics Page 5)

The insider at VTEC confirmed it would be early next year and not at LA for the TLX debut. Jeff, the administrator of VTEC also said nothing "new" from Acura at LA. The timeslot suggests something substantial. Maybe the NSX Type- R? My guess is Chicago the first week of February for the TLX.

This is what Acura has 40 min at the LA auto show for...smh.

I am disappointed. Oh well...nothing to do but wait...

There are four lights!
So basically 40 minutes of who gives a f***. Too bad Acura didn't end 2019 with a bang.
#452
False accord v6 coupe or sedan will smoke any besides the nsx and with tt would win
#453
Null and proud of it
The 6-6 Accord would pretty much smoke anything else that isn't a super car or high performance sports car...

I mean no disrespect for the folks who own a current TLX, and I owned the last generation myself (my wife's car, but I liked it too). They are fine cars, but they were not what this thread is about. This thread is about the return of a fun Acura that is not a six figure NSX. Anticipation turns to "fool me once...." after a while.

What worries me about the new TLX (and Type-S version) is Acura has some self imposed HP rule of lower models should have less power than upper models:
ILX 2.4L 201hp
TLX 2.4L 206hp
TLX 3.5L 290hp
RLX 3.5L 310hp
RDX 279hp (13-18 model year)
RDX 272hp (+19)
MDX 290 hp
RLX Hybrid 377hp
MDX Hybrid 321hp
Acura will need to break this rule OR really up the HP across the entire line-up. I can see the next gen Acura TLX not exceeding the current RLX 310 hp by much in base/tech/adv trim. The same thing for the TLX Type-S not exceeding the RLX hybrid 377hp numbers. Please let me be wrong about this Acura!

I'm a casual observer in this Type S saga without any interest in the vehicle or excitement over its release. As a neutral, objective observer, there are some eerie similarities and differences between the 1G and 2G.
-This is an Acura fan site. There are only like six to ten active members here actually excited about the 2G and Type S. If this were the launch of a new, exciting car, this forum would be filled with current owners and new users discussing these vehicles. The new Corvette example by jjsC5 above is a perfect contrast. The gen pop doesn't seem to care.
-I just spent some time on Acura's press release page.
-Read the descriptions of the TLX prototype in 2014, then read the descriptions of the Type S prototype in 2019. It's almost the same vague, amorphous, fancy language they used in 2014, which we all know how well it lived up to its hype.
https://www.acura.com/news-and-press...rticle=7545-en
https://www.acura.com/news-and-press...ticle=11177-en
-The 1G TLX prototype was unveiled in Jan 2014 at North America Auto Show, then made an appearance in Feb 2014 at Chicago Auto Show, then TLX was unveiled in Apr 2014 at NY Auto Show, then launches in Aug 2014.
-The 2G TLX (based on Type S prototype) was unveiled in Aug 2019 at Monterey. I bet this prototype will be paraded around for a couple to a few more months while development of the 2G continues.
For anyone dying for this vehicle, the best case is that you would see the 2G TLX as a 2021 model year released next summer. I think it would have been a 2020 model, but probably delayed by development and testing.
It would probably be a good marketing strategy to release the 2G TLX without a Type S. Sell a bunch of shiny new models first... then when the luster wears off, release the Type S to drum up more interest. So I think realistically you guys are a minimum of 18 months before you see a Type S.

Acura has said there will be two Type S models released over the next two years. The TLX should be first around end of 2019.

Heck, they are about to do exactly what you suggest they would be too foolish to do with the MDX PMC when they parade it out at the LA Auto Show... which by the way... OMG LOL what a disappointment for everyone waiting for some good Acura news!
If anyone thinks the TLX PMC is selling like hotcakes, you can come get yours at Acura of Brookfield in Wisconsin right now. This one has been available since it arrived there at least four months ago.

No one is interested in these marketing schemes anymore. Guys like us want a great car and the competition from BMW, MB, Audi, Lexus, Cadillac and Volvo is fierce.

You would think so. I hoped a post like this was true back when I was an Acura fanboy. But the 2G and Type S development and historical 3G timelines simply don't add up. This is the same strategy Acura currently uses for the Aspec. Release a new generation, whatever sedan or SUV, ride it for a couple years, then introduce a shiny new Aspec appearance trim (which honestly look amazing to me). Drum up a whole new wave of buyers without spending a nickle before a redesign.

I wouldn't say the PMC TLX is selling like hot cakes, but I'm sure they're selling. Only 17 on Autotrader right now. Not saying that's any indication, but there were a ton more on there when they first came out. MDX might be different. 330 out of 50,000 they sell shouldn't be a tall order. Really disappointed that they aren't announcing anything new, but can't be really surprised with Acura.
My dealer still has #32 from July. A lot of salesmen post them on facebook TLX groups as well trying to sell.

A $50,000 Acura TLX in the face of the Euro,Japanese & Korean competition is a very tough sell.

Well, like I said. I think they're selling, doubt it's at MSRP, but I highly doubt there are 300+ of these sitting on lots. To say they are definitely not selling is not accurate. I've seen a couple on the roads already. Anyway, they need to just bring out the 2021's already. Tired of all this hype. . .

Yikes.
Apparently their marketing department and the engineering department are on opposite sides of Acura headquarters... or not even in the same building. I'm still not sure how you can even call the TLX a performance (especially the I4, but also the V6) or a luxury (in light of what the Euros currently offer) sedan, let alone both.

It's sad that Acura has a 40 minute spot and the only thing they've got in store is another stupid PMC model, whereas Toyota was able to take something as boring and pedestrian as a RAV4 and get even enthusiasts excited:
