Is everyone ready for the Type S Concept? (Reveal Pics Page 5)

Thanks for the info guys.
I spoke to my “friend” who works at the Acura dealer and he said Honda/Acura never reveal any info to employees. He has been there for more than a decade.
However, he did say based on their internal discussions, the base model will be very similar to the RDX. He assumes around 280HP and around 300 HP.
Type S will be around 370 HP but will be out end of summer 2020. In addition, he mentioned something interesting about the MDX. He said the MDX will be a beast. He had enough info/knowledge to share like the new MDX will have a lot of high end features such as air suspension and etc. He said Acura is investing a lot in the new MDX.
All this is speculations and assumptions. I highly doubt anyone has a solid answer.

It also makes sense for them to bring their A game for the new MDX given the competition and profit margin in that space these days.

Ok, this thread compels me to post after more than 18 months off Acurazine...after having been a member for almost 10 years before...
My background: I sold my 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT in 2018 after 8+ years of enjoyment...and replaced with 2018 Mustang GT with all options except the automatic and a security package. I would have gotten an Audi A4 6MT still available in 2018 if its AWD system wasn't such a downgrade from Acura's (had to go AT only S4 to get an option for torque vectoring).
I know I'm in a perceived tiny minority to which Acura and now even BMW does not want to sell, but still feel compelled to keep my "voice in the wilderness" from being totally ignored...even though it is more and more with every new automotive product rollout. I will come back to Acura for sure if the Type S would bring back the legendary Honda/Acura manual transmission option with torque vectoring AWD, mechanical or hybrid. I don't believe I'm the only one; and I think the market for MT sedans hasn't abated...this is Acura's chance to pick up die-hard MT fans abandoned by BMW, Infiniti, Chevy (RIP SS Sedan), Audi, and others...But I know, Acura is not a leader and trendsetter - they are a follower. At best, they'll follow Kia's Genesis model and offer next TSX with MT only in the lower trim level, and only with fwd (ie, borrow from the Accord Sport with little development investment risk)....I might still consider the latter as my next car, BUT the dynamics of rwd or SH-AWD make a difficult case to go back to fwd. I've already given up a back seat practicality to keep MT...I feel I have to draw the line somewhere, so still not willing to give up power and rwd or torque vectoring AWD...My Mustang is only 2 years old and proving reliable and solid so far...so Acura has time to woo me back. ..and BTW, I won't feel deprived if the TSX has much, much less than 460 peak hp with AWD and good gearing.

Make a BEV (battery electric car) out of this concept car and put in a three motor set up just like in the RLX, but more powerful of course, and I will be almost a guaranteed buyer. I am okay with a single gear transmission.

Null and proud of it
I'm hoping that since they have the 6MT in the Accord Sports there's a slim chance they'd offer it in a Type S, but I'm not holding my breath. Just read that the new Vette isn't offering a manual and they had a higher 15% take rate for their manuals. Prove me wrong Acura! I'd be the first in line to buy one with a 6MT.

RE: MT, I would be shocked if it is offered and on the slim chance that it is it will probably be typical Honda whereas if you want it you will need to make a lot of sacrifices. That may not sting as much in an Accord but it will with a sporty luxury-esque car. I just look at the Hyundai G70 for another example of this and another car you need to make a lot of compromises to own. It really boggles my mind why manufacturers do this and it makes me wonder if they really do want MT cars to fail, as it is easy to say, "See, no one wants one," when you strip them down like this and force a lot of buyers into another trim if they want the goodies. How many buyers would jump on an MT in the trim that they wanted? That hasn't been done in many years and it's a shame.
But I get it, technology is rapidly progressing and it's getting harder to justify keeping old technology around. I was an MT driver for many years (but current car is an auto) and now traffic in my area is unbearable and gets worse with each passing year, rowing my own gears is less enticing. And here in Philly the blocks can be super short so it can be a real chore at times.

I have SERIOUS new car itch. I dunno if I’m going to make it to next year waiting for the new TLX, LOL. I’m hoping for more info at the LA Auto Show next month.

I think Acura will either bring MDX or TLX (at least one of the cars) at the next big auto show. Detroit is way too far and Canadian auto shows are not great. I think it will be Chicago, early Jan 2020!
Any takes?

There's a good chance the TLX will be at LA next month. LA said they would announce debuts within the next couple weeks.

I agree. I believe they will definitely showcase the TLX in early 2020. And I also believe we will see a release in April, as that would mark one year for the 2020 TLX model.

Well considering that it's already at the nearby (and much smaller) OC Auto Show, the only way it's not going to be at the LA Auto Show is if the whole car gets scuttled,.
#382
The base model should be on sale no later than April so I'm not expecting a reveal late February in Chicago. Production should already be started by then. I think everyone just hopes Acura introduces the Type S specs along with the base model.

Yes, Philly traffic has gotten even more brutal in recent years, so I've also started to consider an automatic for whatever replaces my 2010 TSX with 6MT. The Accord Sport 2.0T with the 10AT made quite an impression. I think I'd still prefer the 6MT, but man, that's an outstanding transmission and wonderful match for the engine.

I remember reading in one of the big three publications (M/T C&D or R&T) when the B9 Audi S4 came out that they went to an automatic transmission only because that automation (Control over the car) made it much easier to co-exist with safety features (Lane-keeping assist and radar cruise control). It makes me think that the stripped-down models get the manual transmission without such advanced features because it's easier/safer to not have them both at the same time from the standpoint of the manufacturer (liability). Not sure about the Civic Sport Touring if it contains those safety features with the manual.

Some conversation around is this going to be the system that will debut for the Type S. It has been said there would be a 48V hybrid and an e-motor for the new Type S.

Hasn't it been written multiple times that the type s will have a v6 Turbo engine? Also at this point I doubt there is any conversation at Acura on the type of powertrain as that has surely been nailed down with the release coming in a year or less. Why in the world would they also make it a hybrid and then who is going to pay extra for all that? The sales numbers would be NSX/RLX range. Haven't most hybrids gone away in favor of all electric? I took my last type S on vacation many times and it was the type of car you could drive daily and take on a trip anyplace/any distance with no worry. Last thing I would want is an electric vehicle that would need to be charged 2 or 3 times each way and add hours and miles onto the trip looking for a charging station. People have the teslas at my work and all I see them is plugged into the few charging stations (slow ones as they are free) and they also have significant battery drain in cold weather just sitting overnight. Not perfected yet to the point where you wouldn't need conventionally powered car unless you never take your car on a trip of any distance.

The 48V mild hybrid system does not require external charging. The Type-S will still have the 3.0T. It will be paired with a small electric engine with battery for increasing BOTH fuel economy and performance (if rumours pan out to be true). Even the Germans have 48V mild hybrids available on a number of their vehicles.

He was told that about the 48V and e-charger as well so this is not off base. Also, the insider that always tells us things on VTEC said the same a few months ago regarding the 48V mild hybrid for the TLX and the MDX back in July.

Truth be told, I'm basically regurgitating possible rumors from what I've read from others on this forum and other websites (hence my stating "rumors" in parentheses on my post above). At the same time, in an automotive world where the current talk is all about being green, it's not a far fetch possibility that Acura will be incorporating electric tech in their future vehicles, considering 3 of their current 6 vehicles already have electric engines. 48V mild hybrid systems are relatively cheap, especially compared to the three electric engine SH-SH-AWD setup, and probably the next step to improve performance and fuel economy since it's becoming harder and harder to eek out any meaningful efficiency gains with ICE.
