That's because the carriers can't do shit to Apple or their products. No bloatware, no restrictions.

It's something I missed when I switched.

$550 for the cheapest 5C unlocked. How is this supposed to be the budget model?
$49 plastic case with holes in it for a plastic phone too.

Insanity.

I can sell my Iphone 5 for £320. I could sell it and come to the US and get the 5s unlocked maybe.

I see zero point to the 5C if you live in a country that has previously sold iPhones. $300 off contract? You've got my attention.

Wonder how much the $400 on contract 5S model will retail for unlocked. I'm guessing around $900, which is totally insane for any phone not by Vertue.

No reason for NFC on a phone, when NOBODY use it. I've never seen it at McDonalds or 7-11. FANdriods want it on iPhones because then it will become popular and they can use it.

$649 for the 16 GB unlocked version.

£320 converts to $503, so if I pony up another $150 I can get it.

I like my samsung galaxy s4 but it has it's annoyances. Like with any electronic device, I think we've all come to a point where we rely on them so heavily that we've gotten spoiled into expecting them to do everything perfectly all the time. Not even our home desktop computers can live up to that!

Looks cool...every time my contract comes up, I consider iphone for it's simplicity, robust build and quick processing, but then I get distracted by a shiny object or another cool feature that I'll never use that HTC or Samsung put on their competing phone.

I know their plan is to get those into emerging countries that never had iPhones before, but at that price, it really defeats the purpose helping countries and more just a full blown money grabbing ploy.

I live in the apple ecosystem, I like living in it after my time spent with microsoft, and staying within it works best for me.

But I honestly don't look at the other tech being put by the competitors and wish I had it...it does nothing for me.

Why? because as I've gotten older my needs for stability and reliability outweigh the "big dick" factor that every maker and their brother is doing right now to attempt to trump one another.

Apple does what it does very well...I don't care if what it says on paper isn't impressing all the whiners out there. Because I know when I get it...it will work.

I've had my iphone 4 for 3 years...longest I've had ANY one cell phone...and now I'm quite excited to upgrade to something faster with a better camera...that will continue to seamlessly "just work" in my ecosystem.

Well, thats the price directly from Apple. Strangely enough in Europe carriers will generally unlock your phone after 6 months.

Sigh...again...China....do the research.

This phone only exists because of the Chinese market.

If you've seen a Paypass terminal, you've seen NFC. There's 85 merchants in your area that has Paypass, according to the website.

NFC can be useful, and I'm not talking about bumping phones.

It's true. It's like telling a muscle car guy that he'd love an Integra Type R and vice versa. Different strokes. If people think the 5c is the best thing since sliced bread then more power to Apple for making money off of them.

Yes, however they are selling it here.

If the true point was China and emerging markets, it would be marketed there only. For $100 more you get the bad boy, contract or not.

Out of curiousity what Android smartphones are also $100 and compete with the 5c? Not the 5s. Like when my daughter is of age for a smartphone I'd consider the cheaper iPhone for her or a competitive Android. I think it's smart for Apple to launch the c class.

The $100 is with contract. Many Android phones are sub $100 on contract.

I used it to automatically set profiles. I got in my car, put the phone in the dock and it switched WiFi off, BT on, connected to the car and started my streaming music app. At work it would turn BT and mobile data off, Wifi on and have Google Voice forward my calls.

Some use it for much more, some don't use it at all. My main hope was to use it for payments. Take my license and my phone with me and leave the wallet at home, especially if I was out running or biking and I'd have my phone with me regardless.

Chicken and Egg, if it did maybe it will go more widespread. However, I don't trust NFC to be a proven technology to go mainstream.
