Apparently that is one area where throwing a bunch of cores at the problem actually works out.

Even still, 2 cores at a lower frequency with 1GB of ram and look at how they perform... Pretty good stuff.

Also the 6+ is being scaled which doesn't help things.

Yea the resolution that the 6P renders at is higher than 1920x1080 iirc it's 2208 x 1242.

I was wondering about that, why are they using the higher resolution and then scaling it down?

It has to do with iOS's coordinate points on the panels themselves. Since 1080P isn't any clean derivative of the aspect ratio iOS has always had, they have to throw some odd math in there.

So I think they multiplied it by 3 and then cut a percentage from it.

At least that's my understanding. It's also my understanding that can be fixed with an OS update...

thanks for the explanation... I don't get why they wouldn't make it so it's a native resolution, on a new device, with a new OS...

Agreed. But this is what they/we get for having non-standard resolutions for so long.

as long as it doesn't affect the screen quality and resolution (which it doesn't) - I am OK with it.

Srika, I just bought this one.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/manu...916568801?mt=8

Controls looked a bit better and a little bigger, and sticks to the same look as Apple's camera app.

Really, besides the histogram shit looks kinda lame. Is that really considered advanced for iOS? For comparison here's the camera app every Lumia comes with. The UI is drastically better than that app

Hands on with Nokia Lumia 1020 - 41MP PureView and Pro Shot Camera - YouTube
you do realize that is someones app they developed and not the built in camera?

i do admit that does look pretty slick

Ok so what's the deal with the dual-core processor? I know it'll be fast and responsive because it's a new iOS device, and more specifically because of the optimized hardware + software. But it's laughable on paper compared to all the Android flagships. The battery is puny too. After 1-2 years, how many hours do you guys get from moderate use on a full charge?

I always liked the idea of NFC but nobody used it on Android. Nobody.

Are these Anandtech tests legit? Last I checked the site is, but I don't understand all the numbers.

Recent glitches i had with iOS8 on my iPhone 5S (32GB). The one in first frame happened more than once. only way to recover from it is to restart phone.

Today my iPad air 16GB crashed and restarted while using Facebook app.

Efficiency plain and simple. Just like my 4 core i5 would rock any 8 core AMD processor you throw at it. Sans a very few specific benchmarks.

Specs on paper mean nothing in real world usage. Which is what matters. Really when it comes down to it, that's just the way Samsung and the like market their products, specs on paper.

Not sure what's laughable though. In the end the A8 on paper isn't far behind. Those benchmarks are legit.

After many years how long do you think that Note 3/4 battery is going to hold a charge? Lol. Just the same.

And the Lumia 1020 camera isn't all that. It's the best at some things and mediocre at others. Plus who buys Windows phones?

My 5 can still last me all day if I don't play games on it.

I usually listen to Spotify, poke around on FB and IG, text A LOT and check the occasional email.

Before we start comparing cores let's understand when such cores are used. It's either mostly to decode video or for multitasking. iOS has realtime multitasking? No, so its dual core setup is perfect for its usage and iOS optimization.

RAM is like horsepower. Great to magazine race but most people select their devices based on needs.

Exactly, why we are racing for faster and better even if we will never utilize to capacity. This is why our phones cost one grand - which is insane. =]

My facebook wall is filled with iPhone vs Android, it's so annoying. Buy what you will enjoy using the most. Done.

The note 3/4 battery is only 9.7% bigger than the 6P. I wouldn't call that puny
With my 6P I'm getting 9 hours of heavy use. With my 5, that would be 3.5 hours. Iirc about 5 when new.

^Could do the same with the 5. It's not new news. Do the same thing with some of the Android flagships, they won't bend, they'll crack.

5 bent phones, 13 million sold now?

If I apply pressure to any phone it will either bend or crack, end result is the same broken phone..... now why da f@ck would I try to bend it? Sit on your ass, not on your phone.

I wouldn't sit with any smartphone tbh including my old iPhone 3GS and especially not my Note 2. But any of these phones fit in my pants and jeans without issue and I don't have skinny thighs nor do I wear baggy clothing.

I have a feeling the phone was in his pocket and was placed perpendicular to his leg instead of parallel. I can see that exerting a lot of force. Me when it's in my leg pocket, I make sure it's parallel to me leg.

That and I always use a case. I'm actually waiting for a new magpul bump case to come out. Made of the same polymer they use to make their ar-15 magazines.

In the mean time this apple silicone case is nice.
