Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Its been this bad before.
The apple stores have gotten plenty of the silver pluses in the past few weeks, space grey has been MIA. I prefer silver anyway. This is for ATT.
The tmobile/contract free phones have been very MIA.

Hmmm I don't know if I'm seeing things or need to lay off the drugs, but I swear something is up with the clock on my 6P.
Earlier I went to buy a coffee before work and after I got it, I checked the time and saw it was 8:22. So I sat down at a table since I thought I had 8 minutes before I had to be at work across the street. Looked at one azine page and saw it was 8:27.
But the thing is I was already listening to a song on pandora and it's only 1 minute into the song. No way 5 minutes had gone by

This happened to me yesterday too.

And a couple of the apple stores JUST got in some space grey 6's in 16gb and 128gb.
Also reserved a 16gb for her just in case she wants the smaller cheaper one.
Sucky thing is now I have to go to two different apple stores.

If I liked iOS, iTunes, the short propietary charging cables that break easy for a low price of $19, etc then I'd def go Plus. Such a great looking phone and so light. I read the Plus was 60% of the 6 sales and I believe it.
She got on our plan when she just got out of law school so she wasn't paying an arm and a leg for a phone. But she does pay for her portion of the bill.
She is a PD now, but lives/works about 2 hours away. So, Im doing the leg work because she is coming into town tonight for Yom Kippur. And if we wait for her to get here everything will be gone.

The original iPhone was the best for me. Still have mine for some reason. Its still the best in hand feel, and the 6 really harkens back to that.
As a big advocate of micro USB, Lightning is much better to use. But yes, the cables can be comically short at times.
Now, here is what chaps my ass even more about ATT.
Buy and iPhone, select inshore pick up....if you choose the ATT Next option it suddenly says they are NOT doing in store pick up for NEXT phones. But if you choose contract re-up they are.
Talked to ATT....if I buy the phone and don't activate it in store, but bring it in can you switch it over to next....after that it was "why" etc etc etc...Just answer my fucking question.
And in true ATT fashion they throw it back at apple. "You would have to return the phone to cancel out the contract and get them to sell it to you as a Next phone"
Why the fuck can't they just do it at an ATT store, or even over the phone...at some point they said they could but tried to just ignore it. So, who the fuck knows. Good leverage to have against the retention department if it comes to it.
Also...this person said you CAN prepay out the phone on Next and not have payments...but its the whole 20 months, not just the 12.
Can every idiot that works there get on the same page?
I'm truly getting to the end of my rope with them.

Never had a lightning cable break....never even had a 30 pin cable break. Solid to me. And I have them at home, in the car, on film sets where shit gets thrown everywhere.

Never had any lightning cables break so far, 30 pins on the other hand... Ugh.
As for short cables, the regular one is ok. But they do make an over priced 2meter long version
I do enjoy the reversibility of lightning too.

I actually can't stand micro usb...I have it for charging some external phone batteries I use...too small and THAT feels flimsy.
What I did find (on clearance at target) a month or so ago is a lightning cable and about an inch from the connector is a thickpice of plastic...flip that open and there is a micro-usb connector in it. I use that with said external batteries...works awesome, great idea.
Its made by scoshe. It was 12 bucks on clearance, I tried to find more, they were out.

but it felt TINY compared to the 6P.
AT&T's strong point are not it's reps. Unless you deal with Business Concierge, then they are top notch. I would have left AT&T long ago for T-Mobile if not for them.
From what I understand, you can pay the phone off completely at any time (and not just after two months, but nearly immediately, but that is questionable), or you can pay to get your upgrade early by meeting the 12 or 18 month minimums.
Can I upgrade my AT&T Next smartphone earlier than 12 or 18 months?
Yes, you can. After you have been billed and made two monthly installment payments, as long as your account is in good standing, you are eligible to take advantage of our Pay to Upgrade option.
To reach upgrade status, you will need to pay your remaining installments in one lump sum. For AT&T Next 12, pay a lump sum amount that equals 12 installment payments. For AT&T Next 18, pay a lump sum amount that equals 18 installment payments. When paid, you are eligible to trade in your AT&T Next smartphone.
Please note that to trade in your smartphone, it must be in good physical condition and fully functional.

First off, lightning cables are far superior to micro usb in every way. However I will concede they come from Apple rather short in length. This will change, however, once USB 3.0 type c cables come out. Then those will likely be better.
I've had one lightning cable break. And that's because I pinched it in a door that was being closed. It severed the cable. Being the cheap ass that I am, I took it apart and re-soldered everything. I now use that cable only at work.
30 pins where horrible though. Although I had none break on me, the connectors did get flimsy after two years of use. However my iPad 2s cable is still strong and just fine even after all these years.
If you want cheap lightning cables I've had great luck with the Amazon Basics variety.
If you want to beef them up at their weak point, get some micro heat shrink tubing and shrink it right near the end where the stock "support" section is. It won't bend at that point anymore and this will remove nearly all possibility of the cable "breaking". I did that to all our cables when I fixed the one I broke.

So, I was at the first of my two apple runs to pick up the phones and the grove just happened to have a 128gb silver plus and there was like 3 people in the iPhone line...So, I got that, too.
Heres the kicker...You can PAY FULL price for the phone at the apple...you get screwed if you order online, because it automatically affects your account.
So, I returned the pick up phone and rebought it at full price, which has reverted my plan.
The downer is it affects the sim, too. So, I have to stop by an ATT store and pick up a new SIM to get the old phone to work again. No biggie since the 2nd apple store is right next to one.
So...buy phone from apple...just say you want to pay full price...walla.
Stopped by the apple store and saw the 6 and 6+.
The screen definitely looked better on both. The 6+ was way too big. The 6 was good but any bigger and I wouldn't want it. This of course is coming from me who has a smaller 5.

SIL decided she doesn't want to spend the money on the 6 and wouldn't use it to its advantage. So, she is buying my 5s and Im keeping the 6+...I want to be happy...but being out the extra cash blows cock.
In the middle of backing of my phone to switch sims.

Went to an ATT store and asked if they had any plus's. They didnt, some customer said "you dont want it" and pulled out his 6 plus. He says he hates it, too big and regrets it. Almost asked him if he wanted to trade.
Ive gotten used to the plus in less than a day...though its all been in house and setting it up...havent actually gone anywhere with it yet.
But I don't think Ill have any regrets. Otherwise...I still have 13 days to return it.
