Your Guide to Replacing the Infuriating Apple Lightning Cord - The Wire
It's no secret that the Apple lightning cable is one of the worst chargers ever made, but before you scream at an innocent Genius Bar staffer, The Wire has some suggestions to avoid spending $20 on a new cord every month.

First of all, the lightning-to-USB cable that Apple makes is laughably bad. Out of 1,285 reviews on the Apple website, it has a rating of just over one star and that is only because zero stars isn't an option. The help forum on the Apple website has almost 200,000 discussions dedicated to how awful the cord is. The main complaint is that the cord just stops working unexpectedly; its lifespan is about four-to-twelve weeks. If you're extremely lucky, you'll reach the epic six-month mark, but at that point, you've probably lost the cord anyways.

Instead of playing the delicate game of arranging your iPhone just so between a book and wall so that the charger stays connected for more than a minute, The Wire can offer some help:

I haven't really looked into it until today, I guess they are prone to corrosion.

Don't know what to tell you. I'm still using the original cable that came with my launch day iphone 5. And a spare cable I bought a few days later to replace the one I used at work. No issues.

And I can tell you I'm not lucky, I'm the most unlucky person ever.

You don't gotta tell me anything - it's clear that it's a widespread issue and I can accept that. Time to order couple more cables on Amazon.

I honestly hadn't given it much thought until talking about it here. I was just like whatever.

But thinking about it today, of course you'll have trouble with the Lightning cable - the friggin' contacts are completely exposed!!! Of course it's prone to corrosion. Look at Micro-USB, all the contacts are internal, inside the plug. I'm not saying Micro-USB is faultless (although I've never had one fail on me) - but yeah, it's a better design, from this fundamental.

Anyone can buy the Tmobile iPhone at apple which is unlocked but only for GSM networks..
Also this is what I've heard from being in the cellphone industry, AT&T is winding down in the next few years and will push Cricket as their brand since postpaid has died down over the years. Cricket uses its own cell towers but AT&T towers for internet.

Then they better remove their 8GB LTE download speed limit.

The amazon basics cables are beefier than the oem ones.

But corrosion? Really? Not sure about that.

Also look at all Apple accessories in their store. They are ALL poorly rated. Because no one wants to pay those prices for those "average" accessories. Also consider they had a lock on these cables for how long? You had to pay the premium and deal with the average product. The poor reviews really racked up in that period I'm sure. On top of that, like me, people were probably pissed they couldn't use the one-hundred 30pin cables they had laying around.

Yea maybe you gotta buy the ones that are reinforced with nylon or something.

Question, do you use the phone while it's charging.

bingo.

These cables are about as much of a "problem" as bending and hair pulling.

Or anything else media morons and haters flush through the internet to generate, whine, and create bad PR. And there is also a sucker or two or three who buy into it and spread the word like its gospel.

molehills, mountains, and sheep.

Apps running in the background?

I have a separate alarm clock app where if I keep it on all night it drains my battery a good bit, which is why I also keep it plugged in overnight.

Since the battery lasts so long now, I'm only charging it once it gets under 30%

Should'nt be anything running that would tax the battery. (Mainly safari) Maybe I'll just kill everything before I sleep.

At this point my 6+ has replaced my ipad3.

I still like a douche pulling it out in public (I am the WCGD after all) but it does a great job as a dual purpose piece of hardware.

What happens in Vegas....

As long as it's not scratched it's a phone it's bound to happen once and awhile.
