Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I just ordered my iPhone 6 so I could get the $200 through AT&T for my iPhone 5. Expected delivery date is 10/29. What are the odds it does better?
All the stores are out of the phone. The guy said he's never seen it so busy. They're clearly selling a lot of them.

My sister ordered it Sunday via AT&T for the $200 credit, they told her sometime next week. It should be delivered tomorrow.
Ok so I upgraded to ios 8.0.0 a few days after it came out and haven't upgraded to 8.0.1 or 8.0.2.
One bug I've noticed that although isn't really a 'problem', it is just very fucking annoying.
Let's say I open up my text messages and have a new text. I click on it, read it, then go back to messages. It still has the blue dot saying I have a new, unread text. Sometimes, it does this, sometimes it doesn't. Anyways, it is just annoying.

First world problems
Biggest bugs I am having so far:
-Reply to an email, text, post to facebook, etc and it doesnt put the "cursor" in the type field and nothing types. Have to get out of app or sometimes click in text box.
-3rd party keyboard defaults back to stock...Often

Biggest bug for me is occasionally when I launch an app the screen blacks out. Then after a few seconds it comes back. I think it's just on non-optimized apps. Like its switching resolution.
3rd party keyboards glitch out a lot. Sometimes the keyboard (stock or 3rd party) doesn't even load.

I have ATT and I think they are trying to screw all contract holders. What's better ATT Next or my regular upgrade which I'm due for? Money wise? Sense wise?
PS I have the grandfathered unlimited plan.

See my example in the previous page for an idea if you are considering Family Share which will be forced on you by the reps. As for Next vs buying on contract with your existing unlimited plan: I think an iPhone 6 64GB was quoted as $300 or with Next $37.50 a month for a 12 month lease. So that's $450 ($37x12) over a year plus tax at startup vs $340 plus tax (varies by state). Do you want to pay over $110 to exchange your phone for another in a year? Please note that after 2 years you can sell the iPhone 6. It's the same Lease vs Buy argument. Roll with the newer stuff and pay a little more but always have a payment.

She barely uses 2GB a month, I barely use 3GB since I have wifi every where, but I think on the new phone I will be using more than 3GB since I want the Note 4. Now I pay $104 taxed for my unlimited line. She is still tied with her parents ATT family plan which expires next month. I may ask her to go the cheaper route and go to Tmobile. And I'll stick with my ATT unlimited. Or I should say bye bye to unlimited plan (which is really 10GB plan) and try a family plan? (Which I think will cost an arm and a leg if both phones will be on the Next Mobile Share plan, if you do any other ATT plan they charge $40 per line a month like scumbags instead of $15)
Wife's 4S (6 is on the way) is on 8.0.2 and she is having email issues.
Seems like the email PUSH has changed to FETCH, although it's set to PUSH. She opens mail and it shows no new messages. She pulls down to refresh and suddenly ten messages show up.
I am not too worried as it is only personal email and her new 6 should be here within a few weeks, just thought I would add it to the list of "quirks"...

$130 for 2 lines 30GB less my 20% discount is $104 via Mobile Share. $40 per line x 2. $14 insurance 2 lines. $3 roadside. $25 tax estimate. $15 Beats Music both lines. $240. I pay $215 for Unlimited but have averaged only 3GB of data on my line the last 2 mos and the other line even less. So I pay $30 more for nothing.
With Next a Note 4 is $41.30 - 25 discount per line = $16.30 extra which is $391 over 2 years and I pay taxes up front. A new Note 4 is $300 on contract and likely much less next March when I'm up for upgrade plus $40 upgrade. Again the phone changing annually, I don't care for it.

Have you looked at AT&T's Cricket wireless? I was briefly looking at this last night for a buddy....
For you with 2 lines on their 3GB Smart data plan (since you said you "averaged only 3GB of data on my line the last 2 mos"), it'd be:
line 1 = $50 per month, or $45 per month with auto pay
line 2 = $40 per month ($50 - $10 2nd line discount), or $35 per month with auto pay
+ $14 = insurance for 2 lines
no roadside offered
no tax or fees (all taxes and fees included in plan price)

$104, or $94 with auto pay
+ $15 = beats music ??? Not sure if discount plan available to Cricket users even though AT&T owns Cricket

$119, or $109 with auto pay, for 3GB data
If you need more data, their 10GB Pro plan is $60 per month ($55 with auto pay) for line 1 and $50 per month ($45 with auto pay) for line 2.
So for $139, or $129 with auto pay, you get 10GB data instead
Oh, you'll also need to pay a one time $9.99 per line device for their SIM card if you BYOD/BYOP
Seems like in the long run, this would probably be cheaper vs AT&T?
Maybe already mentioned here but one big issue I am having since I updated my 4s to iOS8 is that the Bluetooth won't connect to my car anymore. I checked online and it seems to be a very common problem with iOS8.
Okay here's my quirk with iOS 8...
I want to use the fingerprint scanner for iTunes purchases, so I turn it on and it pops up the usual, if Touch ID can't be used, enter a PIN, okay, 1234, entered. I DO NOT have the slider activated to use Touch ID for unlocking the phone, yet every time I go to unlock it, it asks me for the PIN, not the Touch ID.
I DO NOT want to enter a PIN or use Touch ID to unlock the phone, I only want to use Touch ID for iTunes purchases.
Is this a problem or something standard that Apple has for some God awful reason?

They want you to pay or use the Gmail app.
I understand. I'm fine with upgrading my phone every two years. I'll be paying $40 activation fee when I renew my unlimited plan with a new subsidized phone. I was pondering on getting a family plan to include me and my wife but I don't know if I should drop the unlimited.

Google's push Gmail changes surprise new iPhone buyers, Apple store reps
They want you to pay or use the Gmail app.
They want you to pay or use the Gmail app.

Only if you're on Next or have a phone that you upgraded before a certain date that I can't remember. If you buy the iPhone next year for example at the cheaper upgrade price and don't have Next, you're losing the credit.

What's weird though is that she did not change her device, only the iOS8 upgrades.
If they want to try and pull that crap...then there wont be any contract renewals. I'll buy phones out or find a new carrier.
Next
Two-year committment (subsidized pricing)
BYOD
They are all separate. You get the discount on the outer two. If you switched to Family Share off of a contract, you were considered BYOD as a promotional discount.

I switched to the mobile share plan last year. It was long after I had bought phones and renewed any contracts. Not sure why I get the credit then. I do not have Next.
