That is the T-Mobile Vibrant which unfortunately will not work with Canadian 3G unless you use Wind I believe. That one does not have the internal SD card problem though. All the international Galaxy S looks like this:

Note the button layout and it does not have carrier branding and has the Samsung logo on the top. It also has a front facing camera which the US carriers and the Captivate do NOT have except the Vibrant 4G.

If you're interested I may be selling my i9000M once Samsung gets it back to me hopefully in the next few weeks as it should be in repair right now. Although I don't know if I'm comfortable in selling a product that may break again in the future. I do have a copy of the receipt but this is the second time the internal SD Card corrupted and who knows if it'll corrupt again. Since you're probably from Canada it would be faster to get repairs as I have to send it out to Canada and wait back which takes a while with customs. I'll let you know if you haven't bought a phone yet.

Oh okay. In that case the T-Mobile Vibrant, Vibrant 4G and Nexus S should work fine for you. Most of the T-Mobile Vibrants go for like $300 brand new on eBay and shipping to Canada should be like $20. It might take 2 weeks depending on where its coming from and customs to get there. Then just unlock the phone yourself or ask someone who has a T-Mobile account to call in and ask for an unlock code since its free. The model number you want is the SGH-T959 for the T-Mobile Vibrant.

edit: damn, just out of curiosity, I went to Craigslist/Seattle and there are used ones there going for $200-$250... Fucking Canadian price gouging

Yeah $400 is pretty high for a T-Mobile Vibrant considering that it doesn't even have a front facing camera and the Vibrant 4G came out that has one. Also if you're interested in unlocking it yourself, here's the thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ghlight=unlock

It consists of rooting the phone and downloading an app from the market. Its fairly easy to do. If that doesn't work, there's a manual way to do it that's a little bit more complicated.

For the people running a custom ROM with a compatible kernel that uses the init.d script at startup, here's a tweak that speeds up your external SD card read and write times:

Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1010807

Many of us are disappointed about the reading speed of the SD Cards on our Android Phones. It doesn't matter if you have fast 10 Class SD Card, it performs very poorly on the Phone comparing how it performs on the PC.

The clue is the Cache size for reading from SD Card. It's set to 128 KB, on some ROM's even to 4 KB!

For advanced users and those who know how to use ADB, you can test the different buffer sizes to compare the read/write speeds on the fly instead of flashing each different zip file and then rebooting and retesting.

Code:
Connect your phone to your computer then open up a command prompt or open up a terminal on the phone.

>adb shell
$su
#cd /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
#echo "128" > /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb

Run the SD tool app to test the new buffer size and compare
Change the value in red above in the command to any buffer size. By default, most phones keep it at 128 kB which is pretty small. Try these other values: 1024, 2048, 3072 or 4096 and compare each time using the SD tool app from the market.

To verify the cache buffer size, use the "cat" command in a command prompt or terminal.

Code:
Connect your phone to your computer then open up a command prompt or open up a terminal on the phone.

>adb shell
$su
#cat /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
Once you've figured out the buffer size that gives you the best speed, download the buffer size you want to flash in the first post in CWM. Your ROM will need to be able to use the init.d script at startup so it gets reapplied automatically at boot. You can verify this by looking for your /system/etc/init.d folder. If its there, then the script will work. Otherwise, you will need to reapply it manually after each reboot or use a scripting app that'll run it each time.

For those who don't know how to use ADB or terminal, just flash each zip file in the first post, reboot and compare each time using the SD tool app. Its a longer and more tedious process but once you find the buffer size you want, just flash it and forget it.

SD Card booster from the market also does the same thing if the post above went over your head. lol. But it'll cost you money:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

You will still need root but I don't think you need a init.d compatible kernel.

okay, I need you guys' opinion (quick)...

there's T-Mobile myTouch 3G "Slide" (updated to 2.2) f/s locally on CL, which I'm tempted because I like the slide keyboard (even tho, the screen's res isn't as nice and it's smaller)...

http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_myt...slide-3270.php

or for $100 another guy is selling his Nexus ONE...

which one should I go with? I'm suppose to be meeting up with the guy with Nexus ONE pretty soon...

If your into custom ROMS and like playing with the phone go for the Nexus One. Also if you want the lastest updates. Nexus One is running 2.3.3 I believe. And maybe a bigger update in the summer hopefully.

I dont know the specs of the mytouch3g though. How is the hardware compared to the nexus one?

For $100 I'd definitely get the Nexus One. Why? Its Vanilla Android and will get updates first just like the Nexus S. Its very well supported by devs at XDA and its one of the easier phones to mod. So I'll make a pros cons list.

Nexus One
Pros: Vanilla Android, Easily customizable, Great dev support from XDA and Google, Will get updates first because its a Nexus phone, Slightly faster than the MT3GS

Cons: Multi-touch is a little wonky because HTC cheaped out on the sensor (won't really notice it that much), No physical keyboard (Again, won't notice it much because you can just get any keyboard you like in the market)

Get the Nexus One if you want to have peace of mind in terms of Android updates. The MT3G Slide will probably not get Gingerbread officially. XDA will probably bring it but why wait for them when you get it first with the Nexus phones which are currently running Gingerbread now officially.

lol. was the previous owner running a custom ROM by chance?

You could do a factory reset:

Homescreen --> Menu --> Settings --> Privacy --> Factory data reset

This wipes everything and should prompt for your GMail to sync with.

Have you checked if it's rooted? If it's a nexus one, it probably is.

Hopefully its not a hardware issue. Maybe you should do a whole reflash of the official Gingerbread update and wiping your cache, dalvik cache and do a factory reset in recovery:

If using XP, simply rename the file "update.zip" (if using Vista or higher, rename it to simply "update" as Windows will determine the file type and automate the extension).

Then mount your SD card (with either your phone or a card reader) and put the renamed file in the top directory. That means it's not within an other folders and is on the highest level of your SD card.

ugh, I get to the last step, which is "apply sdcard:update.zip" and it'll attempt to update, but then says there's an error in the sdcard

I've followed the steps like 5 times now

Windows 7 and NO, I didn't rename it with the word "zip"...

but I think I may have figured out the problem... well, I'll let you tell me if I'm right...

my N1 is currently 2.2... in order to go 2.3, don't I have to update to 2.2.1 first and then 2.2.2... AND THEN 2.3.3?

didn't work either...

but I noticed some deviations from the steps....

step #6 where it says "When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons at the same time."

well, that triangle with exclamation point never came up... and just goes straight to the next step...

and also, in the last step... #8 where it says "When the screen displays “Install from sdcard complete” select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to power back up."

well, for me... the word "complete" isn't there... does that matter?

thanks for being patient with me but right now I gotta go run some errands, will try again tonight

Can you tell us which ROM your phone is on now?

Homescreen --> Menu ---> Settings --> About

Scroll down and see what the build number is. It almost sounds like you don't have a factory recovery.

Not sure what's "ROM" but does word "cyanogen" (or something like that) mean anything?

I agree. Some of the none official roms left some hardware not working. Cameras being the main issue. Put the official update on. get insurance on phone so if its a hardware probhlem, they'll fix it.

YES, jesus. He's the biggest developer on Android.

You're running a custom recovery. CG is right.

Basically you're not running stock Android.

Now the question is do you want to go back to stock?

Either way, go back into recovery and go to wipe. Wipe everything you can...Dalvik, cache, battery stats. Then restart and see if your camera works.

From there, we can either reflash Cyanogen mod or put your stock recovery back on and reflash stock Android.

I'd stick with Cyanogen. I have it on mine and many nexus one users do as well. It's very well featured.

Wipe everything and click the below link. Download the file on top called update-cm-7.0.0-RC4-N1-signed.zip and flash it.

Wipe everything and click the below link. Download the file on top called update-cm-7.0.0-RC4-N1-signed.zip and flash it.

Yeah, Cyanogen is one of the biggest and probably best custom ROMs for Android at the moment. You're running an unofficial ROM. You can upgrade to a newer version of CyanogenMod since they just released RC4 today with some more fixes.

To make it easy for you, I suggest you use ROM Manager from the market (It should already be installed on your phone actually):

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

Open up ROM Manager. Confirm your phone. Hit Download ROM. Scroll down to Cyanogenmod RC4. It'll download the ROM and GApps. Click on it when its done in your notificaiton bar. It'll ask you to backup and wipe cache. Just hit wipe cache. No need to backup since the data isnt yours. Let ROM Manager do its thing and when it reboots you should have a fresh clean Cyanogenmod ROM.

Watch this video to learn how to flash Cyanogenmod using ROM Manager:

Note that the steps are similar just different files.
