Sorry for the dumb question. I keep on going to my Epic and hitting the update Andriod. I saw that Sprint had the Froyo update, and then read here that it was pulled to fix bugs. Did they take it out and i am missing something? How do I update?

Has anyone rooted their ATT Captivate? ....my BIL just got one and asked me about rooting his... I am tired and lazy, so I wanted to know if anyone had a qwik and dirty root I could run on his phone? I used Unrevoked on my EVO ... so I have the basics down now...

Yeah Sprint pulled it but hasn't said when it'll go back up. XDA should have a copy of it if you want to flash it manually. Probably using ODIN which makes it easy to flash.

I just HAD to pick the one Android phone that won't get upgraded anytime soon. I'm pretty annoyed that 2.2 isn't out for the myTouch 3g Slide yet. I'm tired of all the "Disk is running low on space" warnings whenever I install a couple new apps, would be nice to install shit on the SD card, which is being wasted .. I'm considering just rooting it and tossing 2.3 on it instead.

Luckily, you only have to do it once and after that it is very hard to brick unless you're messing with Radios which you rarely ever do.
Once you have S-Off and a custom recovery like Clockwork, flashing custom ROMs is easy and there's no possible way of bricking your phone flashing custom ROMs.

HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has
it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.

S-Off allows you to permanently flash and boot directly to a custom recovery like CWM instead of having to go to stock recovery then flash to CWM each time. It lets you flash zip files that aren't signed in the stock recovery and fastboot (can be useful when you can't get to CWM) and allows you to push files to the /system partition while the phone is on instead of having to push them in recovery. Otherwise, S-Off isn't really necessary. Its really more for convenience.

I only have flashed CWM once and never have had to reflash it. I have also push files to the system partition with the phone on. In fact I just pushed a new bootanimation to /System/Media two days ago.

That could be why. I don't believe HTC locked the NAND on the Nexus One and it is a lot more customizable stock than any other Android phone.
For the other HTC phones, S-Off isn't necessary, but for those who want FULL control of their phone with a chance of bricking, then S-Off is the only way to go.

For the EVO owners, not sure if you guys saw this yet but there are now apps that allow you do full mirroring with HDMI cables and support full resolutions. One is free but requires a custom kernel, and the other one is a paid app and doesn't require a custom kernel:

How are you liking CM7 RC2?
I'm using GB collab for my nexus s which has the CM7RC2 core with stock launcher and netarchy's kernel.
My start up times take forever, and my battery life isnt as good as RC1. But it is more stable than RC1. RC1 i had to reflash like 3 or 4 times.
The dev posted an updat with the latest nightly which I need to do still, he said for now CM7 devs are only working on stability and performance so he's fine with using a nightly.

nice, yea my boot times are long haha, but that apparently is due to the kernel i'm using which should get updated soon. Are you overclocking and still getting that battery life? Thats a great battery life! Mines not that great RC1 had better battery life, maybe this updated kernel has something to do with that also?

So I was upgrading my ROM based on CM7 nightly #25 and Netacrhy kernel1.3.0.0. This over my more recent ROM is suppose to make things a little more stable and dramatically increase boot times since the last Kernel 1.2.8 created such long boot times.
I looked at the comments and people were saying that the boot times were definitely better.
I on the other hand feel its the same if not longer. And I'm experiencing more bugs I think. I dunno why mine seems to be excluded from that. I looked to make sure the ROM had the right kernel in about phone and it did. You can upgrade the ROM i'm using without a factory reset, I tried both ways same thing. I flased a third and 4th time. Same thing. Dunno this seems specific to my phone. Hopefully another update will come out soon that changes it?

Anybody else having issues with their gps running a CM7 rom? When I flashed the the RC2, my gps stopped working. I flashed back to enomther's, but the gps still wouldn't work. I came across this fix:

I actually just did the steps in section B and now my gps works fine.
Just a heads up if you run into any gps issues....
So here is what I did, combined with my comments and if I think it helped:
As described before... this is what I did to start with:
A - Software updates
1) Format the sdcard via the RomManager
2) Download the rom, gapps (Google apps), and the new radio image
3) Go into the ClockworkMod Recovery and:
- Wipe Data
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Advanced/Dalvik Cache
4) Install the CyanogenMod rom
5) Install the new radio image (see this threat, and especially post #35)
** I do not think that in A the steps 1, 3, or 5 are necessary.
After the steps above, my GPS was still not working. So I did the following:
B - Fix the GPS
1) Download the following apps from the Android Market:
- FasterFix
- GpsFix
- GPS Status & Toolbox
2) I checked with GPS Status & Toolbox if my GPS receiver could see any satellite. It could!
3) I let FasterFix speed up my fix times (I had no fix time before, but the software has a reasonable idea behind it... so I believe it will help)
4) Take your time and useGpsFix. Let it run for at least 15 minutes. Maybe it needs to run twice. After this my GPS is working!
** I believe that all these steps are important.

I think t-mobile will still be separate from att. They just might use eachothers networks or share some things, but its phones and hopefully pricing will not have much influence

Umm, I don't think the you know what this buy out means. ATT bought the whole company just like what they did with Cingular. So that means there won't be a T-mobile.

Thats if att decides to make that decision. They are saying its gonna take 12 months to sort things out. Just because they bought them out doesnt necessarily mean the T-mobile name will be gone. By the looks of it, att will be better off leaving the T-mobile name as it is. Since everywhere I'm reading T-mobile customers are really happy. Yes I know ATT did it with cingular, but it doesnt mean they are gonna do it with T-mobile. I'm not saying it wont happen, it is a possibility still, just saying its not guaranteed to happen.
