Solid.

battery drain a consuming subject... no pun intended!

Here's how to get back your original Gingerbread Launcher and remove ADW:

everything it removes is basically what my current ROM removed so I might not switch just yet.

Yes. Backup the launcher through Titanium Backup and restore the data portion after you update. You will have to replace the widgets though. All the icons and homescreen numbers will stay the same.

ADW also has a backup/restore setting inside its own settings which dumps your config to your SD Card in an xml.

Also as a note, you probably already know this, if you're just updating within the same ROM, you don't need to the whole factory reset, wipe everything, etc. Just flash the new update unless the dev says otherwise or you start having problems.

Samsung just confirmed the Galaxy S phone will be getting Gingerbread! (This news is probably mainly for the international versions but I'm sure XDA will make it available for the other variants.) The website that leaks Samsung firmwares said he heard about Samsung testing Gingerbread a few weeks ago so hopefully its true. If so, +1 to Samsung for keeping their products up to date unlike their past.

Yeah. No downside to it other than it taking up space. But you'll always have that peace of mind just in case your phone dies. You don't need to backup all system apps, however, because those are usually not restorable to a new build without causing issues.

Just focus on backing up your regular apps, games. As far as system apps, I only really backup my [SMS/MMS/APN]Dialer Storage as that contains all my text messages. That's not included in the batch or probably is but I'm just too lazy to find it. Its much easier to scroll to it under Backup/Restore for me. lol.
OK... Im going thru and doing it by hand... LOL I have alot more on this thing than I thought....

I have a question on linking my phone contacts to Exchange ActiveSync.

In Outlook, I have multiple folders in Contacts to group the different people that I know. For example, I have a folder for all family members and a folder for Project X. However, when syncing with my phone, I can only get the contacts that are under my main "Contact" folder. Is there anyway around this?

Try going to contacts-->menu-->display options. Click the down arrow on your exchange account and see if the individual folders show up.

I think its a limitation of the stock Exchange app. You'll need to use a third-party Exchange app like Touchdown:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

It has a 30 day trial but I highly recommend the app. You can probably try other Exchange apps that may be able to do the same thing. I just don't have experience with them. If you know where to look, you may find a key for the app...

I changed ROMs on my G2 to Cyanogen latest stable build, but had to go back to Enomthers. I was getting WAY too many FC. I much prefer Cyanogen's UI. Dang.

Not sure what was causing all the FCs, but I think it was something with the stock messaging app. Everytime I opened it, it would freeze and either FC or I'd have to reboot. I was trying to disable the notifications so I could use handcent, but could never get to the settings.

I wiped the phone and tried a couple times, but still same thing. Also tried the RC build. but that was worse. I'll give it a shot again when the RC 7 gets to stable build.

Did you factory reset, wipe data and dalvik cache before flashing Cyanogen? Its a must when changing to a new ROM. Also like civicdrivr suggested, a fix_permissions sometimes fixes FCs. Can be done in CWM or through ADB.

Hmm. not sure about the dalvik, but I did the factory reset and wiped data and cache. Is that the same cache as the dalvik? It was a selectable option when installing rom through ROM manager.

Didn't do the fix permissions. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Its separate but I don't think ROM Manager has it as an option. Its probably only certain Recoveries that have it. Factory reset and Cache Wipe should suffice though. Definitely try the fix_permissions (Some recoveries call it "Fix APK UID mismatch") in recovery or ADB. Instructions:

An official Gingerbread ROM was leaked yesterday for the international Galaxy S. I haven't gotten around to playing with it but from the comments at XDA, it looks like its still fully beta. Samsung took out the screen off animation. Luckily, its an easy fix and the devs can reinstate it easily:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974230

Its probably already been ported to the other Galaxy S phones. But its just not worth flashing at the moment. Hopefully, Samsung releases the sources soon so the devs can create a proper Voodoo kernel for it. Good sign though for Galaxy S owners since Samsung is supporting the phone beyond Froyo.

Its too bad HTC only supplies the phone. It doesn't get HTC sense UI on the android platform. Looks nothing like The HTC EVO 4G i have or the HTC Hero or Desire which all use HTC sense as well. I'll never understand why T-mobile would do such a thing.

It actually does have and use HTC sense. The UI does not look the same, but performs like any other HTC Sense phone. The phone is plain awesome. Cons: Tmobile bloatware! The apps I'm using now: 1. Gtask 2. Poynt 3. Handcent 4. Google Goggles 5.Mint 6.Dolphin HD 7.Ringdroid

They call that UI Espresso. Its supposed to cater to the teenagers because it introduced the customizable themes that you now see in regular Sense. If you know how to play with custom ROMS, you can put Sense, Vanilla, MIUI or whatever you want on that phone because it has a lot of devs for it.

It doesnt look the same because its not HTC sence UI. HTC sense looks almost the sam either in WinMo or Android.

HTC EVO 4G

HTC Droid Incredible

HTC Touch Pro 2 (Windows Phone)

MyTouch 4g

The T-mobile phone doesnt have HTC sense and the reviews confirm it as one of the main reasons its not liked by them. My sister in law has it so i know what you have. I'm glad you like it though and T-mobiles UI.

There's been a malware going around in the Android Market which used the Root exploit called "Droid Dream". MYournet posted in the market which utilized the exploit and probably stole data via Root access.

The exploit has been patched in Android 2.2.2 and above but of course only people with Gingerbread are safe by default. Google has already hit the killswitch for these apps and they should've been automatically uninstalled from affected phones but if you guys have downloaded any of the apps from MYournet then you should factory reset to be safe. You can read about it more here:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/03...open-backdoor/

List of apps affected:
* Falling Down
* Super Guitar Solo
* Super History Eraser
* Photo Editor
* Super Ringtone Maker
* Super Sex Positions
* Hot Sexy Videos
* Chess
* 下坠滚球_Falldown
* Hilton Sex Sound
* Screaming Sexy Japanese Girls
* Falling Ball Dodge
* Scientific Calculator
* Dice Roller
* 躲避弹球
* Advanced Currency Converter
* App Uninstaller
* 几何战机_PewPew
* Funny Paint
* Spider Man
* 蜘蛛侠

Here's another list of apps that Lookout also found to be affected as well:

owling Time
Advanced Barcode Scanner
Supre Bluetooth Transfer
Task Killer Pro
Music Box
Sexy Girls: Japanese
Sexy Legs
Advanced File Manager
Magic Strobe Light
致命绝色美腿
墨水坦克Panzer Panic
裸奔先生Mr. Runner
软件强力卸载
Advanced App to SD
Super Stopwatch & Timer
Advanced Compass Leveler
Best password safe
掷骰子
多彩绘画
Finger Race
Piano
Bubble Shoot
Advanced Sound Manager
Magic Hypnotic Spiral
Funny Face
Color Blindness Test
Tie a Tie
Quick Notes
Basketball Shot Now
Quick Delete Contacts
Omok Five in a Row
Super Sexy Ringtones
大家来找茬
桌上曲棍球
投篮高手

The good news is that this is easily patchable if you have a custom Recovery or root access. Follow this thread for info on downloads:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977154

OR

Download this app from the market:

ParaSurfer - Does your Acura sync your contacts with your HTC? I have a 11' TSX w/ Tech package and I have the HTC Hero...which doesn't sync w/ my car. I was wondering if HTC EVO syncs up w/ it or if HTC in general doesn't sync contacts...

Vanilla Android only looks like crap if you're not smart enough to figure out how to use it. Some people don't like carriers telling them how their phone should look and operate.

Since you are so convinced that the Mytouch4g does not run HTC sense, I decided to take pictures for you. The phone has everything the evo has, except the look. Mytouch4g is an Evo killer

See the options? Those are HTC sense options. Flip for speaker, quiet on pickup, etc. It has it all. I wouldnt have purchased 2 MT4g if HTC wasn't included. MT4g also has HTC themes otherwise known on the MT4g as themes (Tmobile bloatware), but at least you can create your own if you don't like them.

HTC Espresso (MT4G) is a variation of Sense UI (All other HTC Devices). So as a base, it is Sense UI but with some slight UI tweaks. The main focus of Espresso is the Theme Management which is now integrated into the new Sense UI. It introduced the Theme Management and had it before Sense did. Other than the icons, they are pretty much the same thing. Besides, both can be easily replaced with any home replacement launchers which will hide the Sense look if it bothers you that badly.

In other news, the N64 emulator is now in the market! I've been waiting for this so I can play some Ocarina of Time. Not that I shouldn't be studying or anything. Its currently $5.99 in the market and so far the reviews seem positive. Its from the same guy who made the other emulators so you know he'll be supporting this one:

And NO you do NOT need root to install and use the app.

The T-mobile phone doesnt have HTC sense and the reviews confirm it as one of the main reasons its not liked by them. My sister in law has it so i know what you have. I'm glad you like it though and T-mobiles UI.
My MyTouch 4G's "home screen" looks almost exactly like the EVO 4G's "home screen" in stock form.
