It sounds like you didn't disable iMessage. Your friends are probably sending their texts via iMessage by default:

Yea pretty stupid that the "send as SMS" if iMessage fails option is disabled by default now in ios7.

Things like that make me hesitant to "upgrade" to ios7
With iMessage images are not sent by MMS, it uses data. iMessage does video as well. I was able to send pics to a iPhone friend when I was in Europe with iMessage and the hotel wifi.

while in the Philippines I used to text the wifi over imessage even though I didnt have service available...I was reluctant to upgrade the IOS at that point because I thought I will loose that feature....

the only good thing about verizon is the bars, its signal is one of the best.
2 year plan is BS, lol.
Anyone up to try CM 11 alpha builds? I actually flashed an alpha KitKat build on my Galaxy Nexus last week but it was pretty buggy as expected this early in the stage. Had to bypass the Welcome screen via the gesture salute because it wouldn't recognize my WiFi. Probably gonna take another look at it in a few days. Someone created a pretty stable one for the HTC One but I just can't do without Sense on the One (can't believe I'm actually saying that! Lol.).
As far as phones go this year I think the moto x is the winner. It takes whats good about android, keeps all of those things and improves on that. You basically have the android division working on improving android, then the motorola mobility division improving on that further instead of coming up with their own UI style.
Got my N5 on thursday night. Activated on a T-Mobile prepaid SIM.
My experience so far:
-really smooth, with some rare choppiness in transition effects. Otherwise blazing fast.
-battery life good for about 15-17 hours with my type of usage (was at Blizzcon, on LTE mostly and on and off a free crappy wifi).
-Too bad i cant use google voicemail with T-Mobile prepaid. I will miss it. But i'm also only paying $30/mo now.
-Camera slow to focus as mentioned before, and pretty inaccurate focus at that. Meh.
all in all though a huge upgrade from a verizon gnex (which is going to my dad).

I remember the Galaxy Nexus had camera issues too, but were fixed later with update.
THAT SAID, I was playing with a Nexus 5, and took a picture while I was somewhat NOT holding it steady, the picture turned out pretty bad, thus IMO the image stabilization probably needs work

Of course!
There is a way to do that. IIRC you just have to call them up and tell them to disable T-Mobile's voicemail. Look it up on XDA, there is a huge thread just about the $30/month plan.

my 1st gen N7 AND my N4...
this update is going to make a decision for me... Either I like it enough to just keep using my N4, switch to Wind Mobile on a non-contract plan OR if the update is kinda meh... I'll probably go on a contract plan, and get the Note 3 (and sell the N4)

Eh, if you are already leaning like that, you might as well start looking out for deals on giant phones.
Google released a new app, Google Opinion Rewards. You take surveys when you're eligible and you get play credit.
So far I've been given the chance to take 1 survey. I got $1. Took me like 30 seconds to take it.

found a glitch in hangouts.
co-worker texted me, asking where i was at..
i sent a few text back using hangouts, and he texted back "I thought you dont have facebook?"
I dont.
the text that I sent went to his facebook messenger.
