Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Cool...because getting the standard S5 will probably compel me to buy a case. Getting the Active eliminates the need for an Otterbox case or similar.
Chances of me dunking my phone in water is slim but I suppose I could use it when I take Little Cha swimming and use it to snag a quick pick near the pool.
I don't believe the phones should be immersed in water for a long spell but if yes, cool.

Thanks, dude. I'll probably look into it when I have a spare weekend either this or next. But, I'm leaning towards not waiting on the S6.
I got the text from them about it today. Its gotta be in response to the TMobile deal.
Honestly, I'd consider switching. I've been with AT&T for nearly 15 years and they don't give you any incentive to stay. If it wasn't for the fact that their service is the only one that works at work, I'd look elsewhere.

I am confused (again)...
I bought a MotoX (1stGen) directly from Motorola for use on the Verizon network in the hopes that not having a handset sold to me by the carrier would mean I would get faster updates...
I have been sitting on 4.4.4 since May 2014 when I got the phone. The 2nd Gen MotoX got 5.0 on Verizon in late November, and according to motorolla, the 1st gen MotoX is getting 5.0.
Why the hell does it take so long? Is the only way to get the OS updates faster to buy the phone directly from google?

you know that you can directly load lollipop?
and I think the adoption rate is so slow because they're still dealing with bugs.
there's already a 5.0.2 update.
so, I directly loaded lollipop to my device.
Bugs.
OTA update to 5.0.1...
Bugs...
now waiting for 5.0.2 OTA

I know I can but I don't want to deal with ROMS and flashing, etc... It seems totally ridiculous that the carriers cant speed the distribution of a complete OS, albeit with the carriers' software overlays.
Newly-leaked HTC One M9 pictures show subtle build changes in our clearest look yet
Leaked photos of possible HTC One M9.

Rumored:
Things I like (so far) - HTC dropping UltraPixel as the main camera (the tech seems to be more suitable for selfies, anyway); upping the game up to 20MP.
Things I don't like - Like the M8, the top and bottom front-facing speakers aren't symmetrical (yeah, a little OCD kicked in there).
Other thoughts: I'm curious to see if an M9 variant will come to Windows. I've been considering making the jump (mainly out of curiosity. I like what I'm seeing with Win 10).
Leaked photos of possible HTC One M9.

Rumored:
- Snapdragon 810
- 5-inch 1080p screen
- 3 GB RAM
- 20 MP rear shooter, 4 MP UltraPixel front-facing camera
- Power button moved to side

I don't think it's a fake, it's exactly an earlie prototype typeriz wrote here about:
"The screen will be the same size as the M8. Single camera on back, huge sensor on back, the module looked like a size of a quarter. Front camera looks like a 8mp camera, the screen has same bezel on bottom, but less bezel on left and right side.power button is placed on the right side under the volume button. It basically looks just like a m8."
The final form is probably different other rumours claim:
1. The design is a lot more curvy also the boom speakers are integrated on to the top and bottom of the screen. The screen is 5.2". 18mega pixel duel camera with a 20.7mega pixel sensor. 4up front facing. Hardware specs seem correct. The M9 is smaller than the M8 with a bigger screen. Its still in testing they have been known to change their mind on design late on but these are as close to the final model that i can let out. There's a few good surprises. Over the next 6 weeks you'll get to know everything about the M9. As for sense 7 that holds the key but won't find any leaks as the testing devices are using 4.4.4 s6. If you can check my history out, I also listed the M8 specs earlier this year. I've got nothing to prove anyway, the proof will unfold in the next 6 weeks. " source: GSMArena-forum
2. There have been whispers of initial test units looking like the One M8 with 5" screen, giant camera module and Snapdragon 810 processor. They've supposedly built and sent out these units to carriers to test the hardware/software/reception without giving away the final product design. Sounds like what you've described. Then there are newer test models going around more recently (mid/late December) with the real Hima body/casing, a 5.2" screen, smaller looking camera module (or maybe the back casing covers most of it up?) etc. Not too sure what/who to believe at this point. Everything is murky.

Of course nothing is sure

S6 rumors heating up too although I read up to 5.5 inches in one publication.
Leaked Galaxy S6 Details Hint At Samsung's Plan To Rival Apple Pay - Forbes
Leaked Galaxy S6 Details Hint At Samsung's Plan To Rival Apple Pay - Forbes
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is going to be one of the most anticipated Android devices this year. The Galaxy S6 is expected to have a glass and metal body, improvements in the TouchWiz interface responsiveness, a major decrease in memory consumption, upgraded cameras and a boost in the chipset, according to rumors discovered by FORBES contributor Gordon Kelly earlier this month. However, additional specs have been leaked to BGR this week that revealed Samsung has plans to take on Apple Pay.
BGR said that they received photos of the Galaxy S6, but they were not allowed to publish them so they leaked the specifications instead. The Galaxy S6 specifications leaked to BGR included a 64-bit eight-core 14nm CPU, a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display (577 ppi), a 20-megapixel OIS rear camera and a 5-megapixel f/1.8 front-facing camera, 32/64/128GB storage options, wireless charging built-in, 2550 mAh battery, quick connect charging, Gorilla Glass 4 and Cat 6 LTE. There is a quick charging feature that lets you use the Galaxy S6 for four hours after charging it for only 10 minutes.
The NFC payment system built into the Galaxy S6 is reportedly called Samsung Pay and it will work with 90% of the existing magnetic stripe payment terminals. Samsung Pay will work with a new touch-based fingerprint scanner to authorize payments. SamMobile.com reported this week that Samsung is working with Visa on launching Samsung Pay.
Keep in mind, everything that we know about the Samsung Galaxy S6 is speculative. Previous rumors suggested that the Galaxy S6 would have a 5.5-inch Quad HD display. I have also heard rumors that the Galaxy S6 will be a very flexible smartphone with an expansion upon the YOUM technology introduced in the Galaxy Note Edge. Apparently, both sides of the Galaxy S6 will have slanted edges to balance the appearance of the device.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to be announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event during Mobile World Congress in March.

Anyone have Metro PCS but with GSM? They have a $50 unlimited LTE deal but you have to buy their device so no thx but they also have a $60 unlimited as well.
I'm so convinced ATT throttles the unlimited data people. I got 20mbs download last night for the first time ever.

I've read that the FTC was suing them for this and a quick search shows as of December they deny throttling unless they hit 3 or 5 GBs download in a month or in a "congested network". Where did you read this?

^Another theory going on. I think its an early prototype as well...It looks pretty nice but I wish they got rid of that damn black bar with the HTC logo in the front. That irks me the most. On the M7 it was okay because the Back and Home button were on them.

I actually never had an issue with the bar. The bars are necessary because of the BoomSound speaker components, right?
I prefer to the chamfered edges and proportions of the M7 more.
TechRadar just mentioned that the M9 might not resemble the M8 as much as once thought. Don't worry: the HTC One M9 might not look so boring after all | Mobile Phones News | TechRadar
I do like this render concept:
Textra issue. Keep getting MMS adaptation errors when I send pictures. Happens to both iPhone and Android recipients. People have to download an attachment to view the pictures or they don't get it at all. Tried reducing attachment size to 300kb, same thing.
Yes I checked the most recent reviews in the Play Store and that's a common occurrence lately. I went ahead and emailed them as well to see what's up. Their twitter showed nothing as of yesterday afternoon. They'll probably just kick out an update.
EDIT: They responded to my email:
I did that and the MMS went through. Let me see if I get the MMS error. Maybe it fixed itself.

Hi there,
Please send support a screenshot of a failed to send MMS to yourself (your mobile number) in Textra SMS.
A screenshot of your MMS Settings in Textra > Settings > MMS Settings.
A screenshot of your APN Settings in Textra > Settings > MMS Settings > Manually Configure APN.
Thanks, we'll sort this for you!

I've tried other apps but I still like textra the most. The pure black background works great on my Note 4's AMOLED screen.
You know what, this didn't start happening until this latest update. It was nice that they enabled system font though. Hopefully the next update fixes it.

Anyone see the LG G Flex 2. Nothing out of this world but the self healing is pretty cool
Oh? What carrier? I'm still waiting for mine to get it.
And ditto. I heard HTC is partnering with Bose to work on the BoomSound speaker tech...would be interested in seeing (hearing?) what they bring to the table.
