So, my preordered S6 Edge arrived yesterday...took almost 2 hours to switch over my account from the old S3 to the new phone (which brings me to really marvel how people can regularly swap out phones like once a year)...
Up here in Canada, a new rule forces phone companies up here to set contracts to 2 years...so, naturally, the telecom companies go around that forcing "upgraded" phone plans. So, I had a really nice plan that allowed for 200 daytime minutes, 1GB data, and unlimited calls to 10 designated numbers for $60CDN...almost unheard of up here for price. Anyhow, well, guess what...had to find a way to tack on another $10 a month because of the "premium" phone...WTFBBQ.
Anyhow, whatever...the S6 Edge was set up and after spending the evening transferring data from the old S3 over (using the Smart Switch app, very nice) and setting it up the way I want to, I gotta say, the new phone is pretty good.
Definitely faster...no lag like my S3. The display almost seems like it is those static-display models you see in stores...so, very real but definitely takes getting used to. Otherwise, aside from the speed and display, it's still to me, just a cellphone. Have not tried out the new camera yet but will later today. As for the "Edge" thing, I tinkered with it to set up the contacts to display (it shows your top 5 contacts to show up on the "Edge" with indicators)...but, I've yet to see what it does when one of my 5 contacts has an update of status or messages me.
Also, the Edge also has this side "night" display that shows the time and etc. at night. Meh...don't really need it...sure, it's neat...but, whatever.
Anyhow, my initial thoughts. And oh, with the preorder, I had a $50 deposit required...and got a $50 gift card which I used towards the phone. Got the Sammy-issued flip case (now, I feel kinda :ghey: since I usually see women with these over their phones)...altogether, to the tune of $419 CDN. Yeah, "cheap"...not. Ah well, will last for another 4-5 years.

I preordered mine on the 1st from verizon.
I gave up my unlimited data to go with this phone and I was on the chat with them for like an hour and a half trying to get rid of the bogus "upgrade fee"
I managed to get $100 credit to my account as they said they couldn't waive the feel.
Would love to hear your opinion on this. My coworker did get an S6 Edge and I got to play with it. The phone feels and looks premium. Even the weight of the phone felt good. The camera launching super fast is awesome and it works on any screen. The phone was only a little bit longer than my Nexus 5 and it was definitely one hand useable.
I had one major gripe and it was the placement of the Power Button. I thought it was too damn low. I mean Samsung has been putting their Power Button on the top right for as long as I can remember and for whatever reason they put it right in the middle on this phone. By doing that, its your middle finger hitting the power button instead of the index finger. I'm sure eventually you'd get used to it.
With all of that said, I think I am going to get the regular S6 once my contract ends next month. The Edge screen was nice but it doesn't really do much yet and it was a little odd to hold because of the tapered thinner edge although a case would probably help in that situation.
Yes I don't know how many times I've given someone my phone to take a pic and they accidentally locked my Note 4. I couldn't imagine the lock button being even lower. I guess the new S6 owners can tell us.
Yum, seriously. Take a pic man. You should've done that prior to typing up your initial impressions. It would've taken 2 seconds (hopefully less )
Played around with the themes on my M7 but haven't really found one that stood out from the rest. Most of the ones that are out there are just wallpaper changes or a different font...Maybe I haven't really dove deep into it yet. I do like how they changed the back of the Home launcher to a deep blue instead of black. I wish the dialer would get a change because the black just clashes hard with Material Design. That's wishful thinking at this point for the M7 and I'm sure there's probably a tweak on XDA which you can do exactly that.
I'm using the Origami theme right now. Not bad. Some of the theme features don't work unless you have Sense 7, like the clock/weather widget. Sense 7 for the M8 should be released soon. Don't think Sense 7 is heading to M7 though.
Loving the M9 so far. Will need another day or so before I can really comment in depth. Previous phone was an M7, kept that for just over two years!
I'll say this in short: It's fast, the screen is better, the sound is somehow even better. And the camera (got the update!) is of course leaps and bounds better. I'll have to do a side by side comparison sometime.
Got an S6 on Friday to replace my increasingly flaky S4. Thus far I'm really enjoying it. It definitely has a more premium look and feel. Got the Black Sapphire color as they didn't release any of the interesting colors in the US. Was a bit nervous about the Exynos Octa chip, but after using it for a few days I'm not. My Tab S has some lag issues every now and again.
Up until the Tab S I've always rooted. I did it mostly to remove bloat and be able to take my game saves and some saved messages from one device to the next. With the Tab S, it hasn't been an issue. So much is synced from the cloud that it makes the backups pretty redundant and a little unnecessary. With that in mind, I don't plan to root the S6 if a root method comes along. Again, hasn't been an issue. Neither has the lack of removable storage. Like Yummy, and many others, I used Smart Switch to move everything over to the new phone. Took several tries and my call logs never did make it, but I blame all of that on the S4.
I haven't had any issues with the lack of removable battery either. I haven't had a second battery for any of my devices since my Nokia 5160. I charged the S6 yesterday afternoon/evening and a little on the car ride home. It was probably 90% when I went to bed. Today I streamed Pandora to my bluetooth speaker for about 2 1/2 hours while I was working in the yard, spent about 45 combined minutes playing various games, sent/received several text messages and emails and I'm still at 68% with just a small charge in the car on the way to work. And my car charger is a Qi wireless charger so its not fast by any means.
I have to agree with whoever mentioned the power button placement. Its too low. I don't find myself bumping it, I find myself having to search for it. This is the 3rd Galaxy S phone I've had and it was never an issue before. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for now its annoying. The fingerprint reader is a vast improvement from previous iterations though. Much better than the one on the Tab S and the Note 4. Takes longer to train, but well worth it.
Camera performance is excellent. Even in low light this thing is amazing.
(Don't judge the photo too harshly, I was a little drunk)
Front facing camera is pretty decent too. And I like that you use the heartrate monitor to trigger it. Not that I take a ton of selfies, but it is nice that you don't have to peck at the screen until you find the button. The camera software is much nicer too. Overall, a very nice package and a very worthy upgrade.
i happened to handle the S6 and S6E at the at&t store today. definitely feels nice and more premium feeling in the hand vs the S3,4&5 and note 2&3 ive held before.
on the other side, it didnt quite feel as premium as i was led to believe it would be

you had a S3 before the S6? damn you were outdated
and what were you doing with only 1Gb data?
But yah Canada cell phone plans are expensive compare to the ones in the US... I had my first hand experience last year when i was in Vancouver.

I have tried it too... I think it is because the side still do not look or feel like metal...
I will wait for the Note 5 edge. It is hard to go back in size once you have tried something this big.

Nice pic! I'm curious how the battery will hold up after time. I have a Note 4 and it was fantastic at first. Depending on my use by the time I get to work
at 7:30 it usually is in the 20s by 8pm after work and the gym. FYI I have the brightness almost all the way down except when I go outside.
2 charges a day? Sheeet I had to charge my 5, 3-4x a day.

after almost a week with my S6, I also am very impressed with the build quality of the phone. i'm still going through to relearn navigating the platform and trying to find apps for my needs. the transition from ios was pretty seamless with my contacts and pictures but I did lose all my old messages.
what I am most impressed with is the battery life... since I am playing on the phone more to get it set up and downloading apps etc, at the end of my work day I still had 52% battery left whereas like I mentioned previously I would of had to charge the phone once during the day at the office. if I ultra power save the phone at night, I can just about squeeze two days of use on this phone before charging...

LOL...yeah, could care less about the latest product usually. It's a cellphone. Don't really need to constant refresh it...I've typically changed out every 4+ years. I didn't REALLY need to get the S6e but didn't hurt to either...
Huge difference.
One note...after using the phone for the last number of days, I've noticed WeChat kept crashing. Not that I have a pile of friends on there but some do use it and oh well. Weird.
Like, Ken...I''m not sure what your affinity to new products are and/or what phone you're on at the moment...BUT, if you don't care about spending a $400CDN to settle into a 2-year contract, it's a pretty decent product.
End of the day, still a phone. Doesn't give me a BJ or anything.

ugh, it was $400 CAD on contract?? I'm curious what it's going to be for the Note 5, assuming it follows the Edge design (so basically the Note 4 Edge but both sides), I would think it'd be more than $400 CAD

nature of the beast.
you cant play on a big ass screen that draws a lot of energy and expect the battery to last a long time.
Did you see the aluminum battery that was just invented?
charges in 1 minute.
with li-ion batteries, it's just the nature of the beast.
and no way to get around it.
the japenese dont even use smart phones.
they use conventional flip phones.
wanna bet how long their li-ion batteries last?!?!
Not so much anymore. They are using smartphones and after Apple's initial failure in penetrating the Japanese market, it's now really big there. When we were there a couple years ago on the train, most people had some sort of smartphone...and keep in mind, some of the flip-phones still had smartphone-esque features.
nature of the beast.

then I argue that there should be a standard where the phone should lasts a day under 'normal' use... i'm not talking about superusers on it 24/7... if the screens are drawing that much power to drain the battery that fast under normal use, they need to redesign the screen to manage power better... maybe that is why they are called smartphones now and not 'mobile' phones... so much for me being mobile if i'm tethered to some sort of outlet to recharge my battery...
Google Maps user Ahmad Babar was searching the service for locations in Rawalpindi, Pakistan when he found the rather surprising image of Google’s Android mascot apparently urinating on an Apple logo. Using the Measure Distance tool in Google Maps, the Android stands approximately 2,700 feet tall.
Robots do not urinate, at least not in the traditional sense, but the message of the image is still pretty clear.
Depends on how much. A couple of bucks, eh whatever. I was a little taken aback by that notice, but well it's inevitable. At least it's not as intrusive with permissions as some other text apps.
I'd love hello SMS but damn, that list scares me a bit.
5.5" Quantum Dot IPS Display (Turns off the display when the color isn't used like AMOLEDs)
Snapdragon 808
3 GB RAM
16 MP with a slightly bigger image sensor, F1.8, OIS with 3-axis, laser autofocus and a color sensor and full manual controls
Removable Battery
MicroSD Card
Interchangeable back covers
I'm really excited about that camera the most. Full manual controls on smartphones! It also launches just a bit faster than the iPhone 6 and S6 at 0.6 seconds. Waiting on the reviews on this device but this should give the Galaxy S6 some much needed competition. The S6 may look nicer but there's no denying that TouchWiz is bloated and LG cut some much needed bloatware on the G4.
