I'm enjoying this phone. It's huge but i held the LG G2 and Note 3. I kept an open mind. The speed is faster than my HTC EVO 4G LTE which was never laggy. Any other features or hidden features i should know about that Samsungs Galaxy line has, feel free.
Try enabling "Developer Options". Go to your Settings --> More Tab --> About Device. Look for "Build Number" and tap on it about 5 times or until it says "You are now a developer."

Go hit back then go to Developer Options. Check the box that says "Stay Awake". Here's a video on how to enable Developer settings if the instructions above were a little confusing:

OS-wise, yeah there isn't any huge jump in UI design since 4.0. Minor refinements and pretty much the attempts to have a polished and buttery/svelte smooth total UI. Hence none of the updates have gone to 5.x yet.
Heh, to me it sounded like you made up your mind on the Note 3 after your post about it. Just hope they don't announce the S5 between now and when you get your Note 3

Which carrier are you going with?

And FYI, the Nexus line is not and never was pure Android (AOSP) - it is really Touchwiz by Google.
WOW! WOW! WOW! You CLEARLY have no CLUE about what you are talking about!!!!! The Google Nexus 4 and 5 are phones made by LG!!! Samsung hasn't been in the NEXUS picture since Google put out the Galaxy Nexus! LMAO!!!! As far as the Nexus line not being pure Android (wtf does that even mean), the Nexus line is a freakin GOOGLE phone!!!!! Which is all ANDROID!!! Touchwiz is a user interface that is developed by Samsung for Samsung!! not Google! People come here for advise and support. Please stop posting IGNORANT misinformation! It doesn't make you look very intelligent or educated.

Well, QB175 makes a couple of valid points, but he didn't need to be so "in your face"...

Gnex = Galaxy Nexus = Made by Samsung

The Touchwiz comment he made was a metaphor. Google adds in their own flavor in their Nexus line just like Samsung's Touchwiz, HTC Sense, or Motorola MotoBlur.

Google Working to Bring RAW Capability to Android Phones

interesting, too bad Nexus phones' storages aren't expandable.

(in case y'all don't know, RAW files are HUGE)

Finally got around to installing Kitkat on my Nexus 10 - it might just be me, but I feel like its made the tablet faster (basically a "butt dyno" since I cant confirm with tests).

Really tempting me to get off Stock Rom on my LG Optimus Pro and try flashing a 4.4 rom like CM11...

Yup just look at the latest N5. The launcher is completely different than on AOSP, and as of now, N7, N10, and N4 are running AOSP launchers on kitkat.

You are right. I didn't have to be that way at all. I just don't like it when folks (who, I'm sure mean well), dish out misinformation.

^^^ That sure sounds to me like he was saying Nexus was made by Samsung. Hard to read it any other way...

Sure sounded like that to me....and everyone else that read it. Samsung shouldn't have been in that part of the conversation as it pertained to the Nexus 4 and 5.

And QB175 is right, Touchwiz is Samsung, not Google...
^^^^What he said....that I said.

I see nothing TSXy Luster said wrong, at all. Even if he did, its nothing to get 3 exclamation points excited for.

We all make mistakes, but ignorant isn't a word I throw around when discussing things.

Tsxluster was responding to someone being disappointed with the GNex, this he made the comment about Samsung. No where did i feel like he referred to the N4/N5 being made by Samsung.

And to be honest, you coming in here with less than 20 post with the in your face attitude doesn't make you look any smarter. Like I said you're misinterpreting TSXy Luster. He's a tech writer who keeps up with a lot of Android technology. Not saying he's going to be right all the time. But basic info like LG making N4/N5 are information he already know.

I, for one, am glad. This thread needed way more exclamation points and all-caps words.

Stoopid question...

Can I root an older phone and put a newer OS on it?

I have an old DroidX and wanted to mess around rooting it and putting a newer version on it. Am I limited in how new I can go? If so, how do I find out the upper limit?

Every time I go to a pure Google ROM I end up going back because of the camera UI. Sense got it right, amongst other things. Just make sure you buy it from a retailer because the purple camera sensor is hit or miss. My replaced HTC One hasn't had the purple camera sensor problem since I've picked it up and is quite awesome in lowlight.

I'm glad Google/Motorola is paving the way for faster updates. I hope this lights a fire in all the other OEMs to take the same step although it'll be difficult for them considering recent Moto phones barely have any skins on them nowadays. They're almost pure Android phones now with some added useful apps on top.

HTC is also doing a good job releasing the GPe KitKat ROM to Google last week and supposedly the Sense version isn't too far off (holding off for the Sense version). The other OEMs could learn something from Moto and HTC.

Yeah do it. Make sure you have them turn it on right then and there. Don't walk out without a phone in hand because they'll offer to ship and you might have the same issue when the new phone arrives. I went in with my friend the other weekend and the support guy didn't bother to try out the replacement phone and was about to send my friend off with a phone with the same issue. Wasted a good portion of our time even though I told the guy to try it out before registering it into their system. Luckily, they had one other phone that didn't have the issue and my friend walked away with a working camera.

The best way to trigger the purple tint is to turn on the Camera and lay it face down. Also, turn on HDR mode and take a couple pictures with it on and then put it back face down and see if there's any purple tint. It taxes the phone doing that triggering the tint faster if its there. Even the smallest amount of tint means its going to happen again. It should be pitch black and it should stay cool even for a couple of minutes. If it doesn't don't take it.

There is no developer options on the Sprint Mega. Thats the 1st thing I looked for. My HTC EVO 4G/4G LTE both had developer options. Does the sprint gs3/4, note2/3 that are running Android 4.2.2 have this feature?

My issue is it won't charge properly and there is something off about the battery. I'm back on my GS3 while the One has to charge.

So are there any big differences between the X and the one? Which one is bigger? Same speeds? Better pictures? All the techy talk is flying right over my head.

ALL new phones ARE VERY SIMILAR now-a-days.
most have the same processor speeds and same cameras.
the Moto X is a beast and so is the HTC one.
both are super similar in power and pictures.

pick both of them up, which one feels better in your hand?
with the moto x, you can customize the outside of the phone to your liking. make it match your TL.
if you dont care about that, get the HTC one.

really just the AMOLED display (Moto X) vs. IPS (One). AMOLED has more saturated colors and deeper blacks if that matters to you. IPS tends to be more color accurate.

Also, if you want to command your phone through Google Now without unlocking your phone, the Moto X has that feature. It also has a special notification that allows you to see what it is without touching your phone.

Get moto X if you think you need any of these features:
