Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
People will insist on sending me a PDF of an entire work even though I've complained countless numbers of times that if I'm expected to look at these things and offer support and edits in real time, they must break up the legislation.
One of these huge PDF will work well on an iPhone X, while causing the LG V30 Plus to hiccup and develop hitches.
I know that Android people do not like Geekbench, but it does not lie. :-)
I do not play games on my LG V30 or on the iPhone. Both are basically work devices.

If you are meaning for me to infer from your typing that the typical user might not need the power of the A11 or A12 chips, or that he won't in real everyday use notice the difference in power between an LG V30 and an iPhone X, I suppose that maybe I'd agree with you.
But there is a difference. :-)

I will gladly set my phone down and move to a dedicated computer for real time work.
even browsing websites are still a pain for a phone..while getting better...i'd rather have a laptop or desktop to do computer related things.
Well, you see, I can do some pretty heavy work on an iPhone X. :-)
There are days that I never take my MacBook with me, or if it's with me it's never turned on, because the iPhone works that well.
Truly.
I'm on an iMac right now, which I admit gives me a huge advance over everything else, but it's all a matter of priorities.
I'm not taking the iMac anywhere.
If I'm on a hike I'm not going to carry the MacBook, but somebody might still send me an iMessage saying I have to look at something right away.
And I've been known to answer a phone call on the Watch, for that matter, rather than digging out the iPhone!!

Allow me to use the word of the day, my friends: ecosystem.
:runs for cover:
:-)
I admire the infinite configurability of Android phones. And I like how Android applications very often have more configurability and uses than their iOS equivalents.
I like the V30 very much, and although I haven't handled one yet I think I'll like the S9 very much.
I'm not really an anti-Android basher so much as the iOS and Mac systems just suit me better.

My brother has been having issues with his Pixel 2 XL. Not with the screen, but with battery life. Stock messenger app causing severe drain, causing his battery to go flat after less than 8 hours with minimal usage. Google was good enough to send him a brand new phone.
What do you know, same issue.
I can't buy another iPhone, just can't. I want to go back to Android, but those little issues give me anxiety. Lack of software support over time is another big one. I love the stuff Samsung puts out but don't want to deal with a phone that makes me want to chuck it out the window after eight months.
Plus I hate the cult of Apple
their ecosystem is really solid. I just hate those people that must have the new iPhone on release day no matter what and justify Apple "because it just works"

the march security update is to blame for the pixels 2 recent battery loss.
looks like devs are working on it which is pushing back the release of that patch for other phones....
my 6p is really great at getting security patches each month... I havent gotten March's

Whelp. OG Pixel bit the dust last night. Probably the best cared for phone I've ever owned... took it out of my pocket and tapped the fingerprint sensor. It unlocked and then started into a bootloop.
It'd loop at the white "google" screen for a while and then finally load. But would then reboot on it's own.
While it was stable for a few minutes this morning I was able to do a factory reset, hoping it was software related. Nope. Still rebooting.
Did a chat with Pixel support and, to paraphrase, "Out of warranty. Get fucked. How 'bout a Pixel2".
So I'm back to my 5 year old Moto X while I figure out how to process an extended warranty claim with my credit card.
OG Pixel. 18 months old.

I'm really sure this is just an unfortunate six-sigma failure. There are a few people who seem to have experienced the same failure but it's not a huge group (cough, cough, Samsung Note). So I'm chalking it up to shit happens. Yeah, sucks that it only has a 12 month warranty... But that's about standard.
Pixel 2 should be here Monday or Tuesday...
I was planning to skip gen 2 and get a 3 in October, but I guess we'll see if I can make it to gen 4 in 2020. I bet my Moto X will still be going then. Not very far from a mains power, but still running.
Queue my now commenting: "FFS, Google says it takes one to two days to ship an order... Amazon delivers stuff faster than Google ships it out."

Did you order from Amazon or Google?
Spoiler
Funny enough; I just read an article saying that MOST blood pressure "cuffs" are reading wrong!
in very ideal conditions; they are pretty accurate...however; it gets less accurate in non-ideal conditions...
sitting with your back against a chair, feet flat, with the cuff on skin and at heart level...this only works with ppl with normal 120/80...if you're not in the normal range...the cuffs get less accurate the more your blood pressure is elevated...
and stimulants effect blood pressure...coffee, alcohol, cigarettes...
even being in a doctors office can raise the pressure...called "whitecoat hypertension"

What carrier are you guys using?
AT&T sucks. Most expensive for unlimited and to get that, you need to have u-verse or DirecTV, which we are dropping. Considering T-Mobile.
It's rare that I have coverage when my friends with T-Mobile don't. But then there are times when they have data and I don't.

Verizon.
EDIT: This popped up in my feed earlier this morning. I thought it was kind of interesting:

Anyone here using Project Fi for service? I am traveling internationally this fall and I am thinking of getting a Project Fi sim before leaving so I don't have to bother getting a local sim card when I land. Being on a grandfathered unlimited plan doesn't allow me to use Verizon's new international plan where you pay $10 a day to use your current plan while traveling. Even if I could that is a pretty shitty deal. As long as there is no contract length for Project Fi I will just setup an account for $20 for the month and 1gb data $10 more and have internation for $30.
Doesnt FI piggy back off of other cell towers? like all of them? verizon, att&t, and tmobile? if so; wouldnt that mean coverage would be excellent?
Just thinking out loud and if I was ever kicked off my family plan; Fi is likely what I would do.
