Not sure how much of the difference was the faster phone or if restores are just naturally faster than backups.

12 hours!?! I run a scheduled backup every other night at midnight - it saves a new file to my Drive (and deletes anything over 10 days old). I'm around 28k messages and it doesn't take any more than 10 minutes. Restoring doesn't take more than 10 minutes either.

Were you using Google Messages or something else on the Moto? Sometimes, non-Google messaging apps can be problematic when backing up/restoring.

The key thing you're missing is my SMS messages had never been backed up before. I easily believe your incremental only takes ten minutes per day.

Download speeds are usually higher than upload speeds

It's not an incremental - they tend to get corrupted. I do a full backup every two days at midnight.

THIS.

Also helps since I do a lot of dealings with vendors via text; so I save that shit.

Not buying; there is no way you can back up or restore that many messages in ten minutes; at least not using SMS Backup+.

In other news, today is the first day since I got my Pixel 3 XL where I've received numerous SPAM calls; I've already used the feature to screen eight calls and block all of them. BONUS!

For Pixels there was an update today or yesterday for March. Apparently many had issues with camera startup.

Let us know how it affects you. I'm kind of scared because of the horror stories of the Feb update. r/GooglePixel has some good info in there too.

The camera opens and takes photos way faster now.

I read that there are some changes to read/write speeds, but I haven't noticed anything on that front.

So, over a week now with the new update and there do not appear to be any negative impacts relative to battery usage with the new update.

I am now two weeks into my migration from a Moto Z Play to the Pixel 3 XL; my only (very-minor) complaint is the Moto got me in the habit of using the fingerprint sensor to both unlock the phone as well as to lock it (that seemed very intuitive on the part of Lenovo), the Pixel 3 however, will only unlock via the sensor, I need to hit the power button to lock the phone. On the other hand, not to discount the speed of the phone, the camera, and the screen, the feature I love the most is the call screening function for unknown calls; I've already engaged it dozens of times and of those engagements, only one was a call from someone I wanted to talk to, and the translation into text of their identification worked well.

One side comment regarding the call screening feature, if the caller drops the call before the full outbound message has been played, the phone just hangs up; if I want to block that number I then need to go to my recent calls and use the menu to engage the block. I think a cool enhancement to the feature would be if the call is dropped before the outbound message completes, I should be presented with the "Block number" prompt.

^FYI screening in beta in Canada

Yeah I got the March update and the battery is just as crappy. The screen at more than half gobbles the battery. It seems I have the misfortune that I need chargers everywhere. Luckily I only got the camera open lag issue once.

I did play with the S10e briefly. The Pixel camera seems to own it though. Noticeable in clarity and color.

Try an app like DiskUsage ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roid.diskusage )
It has a nice UI for exploring the filesystem and identifying where space is actually being used.

I think 36 months is going to be the peak for a while. iPhones get updates for as many as 5 years so you can see a world where 3 year payment plans make sense. Also, there is probably a subset of people who use a payment plan which involves returning the device as a final payment.

For example, I think the "new phone every year" AT&T plan is based on an 18 month payment cycle when your phone is the last six payments. Carriers clean up in those arrangements with phones that hold their values.

well, i dont know why you want to do that if there is no interest involved.
Also for us "jump" customers, paying off a phone defeat the whole purpose of paying for the "Jump" every month.

A few reasons:
  • I'm slogging my way through a Chapter 13 following the failure of A) my wife's small business, and B) my former business partner's ill advised spending (in my name) and cannot have any credit for another year or so.
  • I hate having payments.
  • I often buy phones which are not necessarily offered by my carrier (last three phones, Moto X, Moto Z Play, Pixel 3 XL).

I understand the other 2, But payments should not be an issue, unless you dont pay your bills every month. The installment is part of your Monthly cellphone bill.. The only difference is the extra $20-30 a month added to your bill.

Call it a character flaw.

I'm to the point where I make good money (some would say very good), and my monthly bills (in addition to paying the court Trustee) are rent, storage unit, phone, cable/internet, and electricity. The only other periodic bills I get are for insurance, and I pay those annually. Literally everything else I make beyond living expenses is going into my various retirement plans. Sucks to have been in our late fifties when our whole financial world collapsed and we needed to start over for our retirement; we figure we'll be able to retire by the time we're 72.

I just don't buy phones for $700+. I got my Pixel 3 for $350 on a special. I can't justify paying double for that phone or any other phone.

Looks like i'm coming into $400 soon and will use it towards my next phone purchase...

I'm with Doom, I aint paying more than $450.

Yep, I'm keeping a close eye on this. I've had two with this issue. The first one was replaced for another 6P, and then that 6P was replaced with an XL. I'm hoping the payout stays high and isn't like most class action suits where we end up with $7

Kind of funny, when I first saw the fold-a-phone concept I was wondering how long the screen would last. Hmmm, I guess the technology is a tad immature.

Side tangent; last week I attended all three days of Google Next 2019 in SFO and, I guess not surprisingly, there were a LOT of Pixel 2 and 3 variants at the show. At one point I was demoing a product I've developed with a Google toolset to one of their engineers and she accidentally picked my phone up thinking it was hers.

The above said, what I did find surprising was the handful of Google employees sporting iPhones. Seriously?

you can read the lawsuit, as that's up!
but the official website to report isnt up yet, so we dont know the stipulations or hoops that we have to run through to get "up to $400"

but im with you,not expecting much.
