I plan on upgrading my work phone soon to the 4, but I'll hold out for the 5 (or 6, with how long I keep phones) for my personal line.

I just can't see spending $900 on a phone that's marginally better then the 3xl I bought last year.

Would like to see photo comparisons between the 3 and the 4.

Agreed, with the 3XL, unless one "NEEEEDS" a better camera, say for professional reasons, then there is zero justification. Now, if one's phone is older, yeah, I might see buying a new 4XL.

I can't justify spending full retail price for a new phone. My 3 is buggy and I only paid $350 new. Even if the 4 was perfect, $800, no way.

So, are you still having the short battery life, bad speaker phone experience, and bad Bluetooth experience? Given my 3XL has none of those issues I was kind of hoping the updates which have come down would have corrected some of your issues.

Agreed. In 6 months it will be $550.

I would expect a $650 price tag in mid to late November. Reason being Apple is undercutting them with the iPhone 11 128 GB model costing only $749, $50 less than the 64 GB Pixel 4.

More like 1 to 1.5 months.

There will be deals for Pixel 4/4XL leading up to and during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Best Buy is already giving buyers a $150 BB gift card, so the 64GB Pixel 4 is essentially $649.

Last BF, Best Buy was giving $400 off the Pixel 3 and 3XL. Target had BOGO deals. Google was discounting 3 by $150 and 3XL by $200.

I have Google Fi and they are already giving out a $100 credit if you upgrade, and they'd give me $260 for the 3xl.

Verizon also has some pretty good deals.

Looking to pick up a Pixel 4 as I'm still on the Gen 1. I'll look to score it towards January or late December...that's also usually when my work's flex spending is allocated too.

Yes to all but I've been apprehensive about going to A10. I honestly haven't researched if the speaker and BT issues have been fixed on it but the battery has continued to be an issue. The features don't make me want to update, except for the annoying daily popups, so I'll stick with the devil I know.

I'm surprised Samsung was giving me $700 credit to buy their $900 S10 pre-launch. But yeah, there's always some sort of special to get the phone cheap especially if you're flexible porting back and forth to different services. These things are like mini-cars value-wise.

My White 128gb XL arrived yesterday. So far it is a good phone. That said not sure it is much of an update over my 3XL. The screen is narrower than the 3XL but so is the phone altogether. It also seems weird having the status bar so far down the phone screen after having it right on the edge of the top with the 3XL and the notch.

Super solid feel though even a little heavier than the 3XL. It just feels right in your hand. I think part of that has to do with it being slightly narrower.

Only taken a few side by side shots in one lighting condition so far but the 4 produces warmer pictures than my 3 did at least outside in the sun.

Since mine arrived yesterday I was impressed with the battery life while I set the phone up. The phone arrived with 52% battery charge and between setup, downloading and installing 75 apps, using it to reply to email, texts, web browsing, and about 30min of mild game play I got 2hrs 45min screen on time in 7hrs and 14min it took me to get it to 1%. No I don't have a screen shot of the usage stats though for exact amount of usage.

I typically don't finish a day with more than 4-4.5 hrs screen on time in my heaviest usage unless I am traveling in an airport or something and then I normally have a battery pack. So far not dissapointed with it in the half day I have had it.

It becomes my phone for work. My work pays for $50 towards my cell plan but does not cover the device. I could use that for my personal line if I wanted to also use it for work but I prefer having physical seperation between the two. The $50 is enough to cover the second line. So I get myself a new personal device every year and rotate the other down. Still get two years of use out of each phone then.

After reading some of the initial reviews that have come out (and also because my order was super delayed), I cancelled my pre-order. I'm just going to wait it out for the 5XL or wait for a really good sale to pick up the 4XL later on. Doesn't seem like it would be as much of an upgrade as I thought it would be and I'm really not at all unhappy with my 2XL anyway as everything still works just like I'd expect it to.

Smart choice IMO.

I think the biggest thing I'm going to miss if I jump to the 4xl is the lack of a fingerprint reader. Not sure why they got rid of that - I'd rather use that then face unlock, since it's easy to bypass that.

I kinda wanted the face unlock, mostly for when the phone is flat on a table and I want to unlock it. That's the worst part of having the reader on the back side.

It really just came down to the fact that the 2XL I have now wouldn't be functionally inferior to the 4XL I had on order really in any way so what was the point? The tele lens would be great but the digital zoom is really quite good on all Pixel cameras. Also, the battery life, I hear, is quite shitty on the 4.

Wow, they ditched the fingerprint reader? I use that 90% of the time to unlock. I even registered fingers at the right angle to unlock the phone while it's in the cup holder so I can use Google Voice while driving (for the times it doesn't auto-unlock with the BT connection).

The screen and build quality to me of both the 3XL and 4XL are huge improvements over the 2XL. The screen quality being the most noticeable on a daily basic since I have used my 3XL and 2XL side by side for the past year. Also I don't like the feel of the 2XL screen vs my 3XL and 4XL it just doesn't seem as slick and my finger doesn't slide across it as easy. Could just be that the coating has completely worn off it being used for 2 years now.

That all being said I did have a few days where I considered sending back my 4XL since honestly it is not a huge upgrade over the 3XL especially since the notch never bothered me at all. The lack of the fingerprint sensor is a pain as of right now at least cause hardly any apps take use of face unlock. Face unlock though does work really well. I only have had a handful of times where it hasn't unlocked my phone before I was ready to touch the screen to do something. I thought I would miss the fingerprint sensor but I don't really and once they release the 'eyes open' update then face unlock should be just as secure and really more secure since there is nothing to stop someone from using your fingerprint while you are sleeping or dead.

I've never done face unlock on any phone. Does it matter if your hair is all fucked up or you haven't shaved in a while?

I use the "swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to open the upper bar" feature quite a bit more than I expected I ever would... Does the 4 accommodate that feature some other way without the sensor? Or has that feature been relegated to the dust bin?

I always thought I would use that feature when it was announced but found myself in the opposite group of basically never using it. With face unlock it has pretty much been relegated to the dust bin.

I just realized I use the fingerprint on my Pixel2 to unlock a few apps that have additional security like the BofA app.

I use it for basically everything that supports it. Here's hoping they bring it back for the 5.

I think face unlock is supposed to do the same thing...

I upgraded my work phone from the OG Pixel XL to the 4XL, and it should be here this afternoon. Both my OG Pixel XL and my girlfriends OG XL have been having some very weird issues of late. Random slow downs that we never had, battery draining issues, and now hers is selective with the texts she receives (that could be a carrier issue though).

She's been eyeing the 4 XL but the deals so far haven't been great, at least for what the phone is truly worth (IMO). It's nice to see some deals on the 4xl and the 3a, but I'm hoping they drop the 3XL down into the $400 range, so she can snag one of them.

Can't wait to hear what you think of it. Love mine so far. It will be even better once face unlock works with all the apps I used to use fingerprint with.

Black friday deal on the 4XL is $200 off. You can snag a 3XL unlocked for $535 (I think the normal 3 is $450) right now on Amazon. I think I might pull the trigger on a 4XL for $700, $150 isn't much more over a 3XL. That seems worth it to me, more so than $900 at least.

My big reason for upgrading is 600mhz band compatibility. That's the frequency for more rural areas and my inlaws live in BFE so it's important to have it. I never understood why my wife's P3 would get service in that area and I wouldn't until I read more on the 600mhz band thing.

After using with the 4XL for the last 24 hours, $200 off it's $900 price tag isn't enough of a discount in my opinion.

It feels well built. It's fast (so far), but not a whole lot faster than the 3XL. The camera opens just ever so slightly quicker then the camera on my 3XL. The only time the camera on the 4XL really beats the 3XL is when zooming in (dual cameras, duh), but even that is dependent on the subject you're shooting and how much you're zooming in - if text is involved, the 4XL is way better. But if it's just shapes, it's pretty much a wash when both cameras are zoomed in at 7x. Once you bump the 4XL to 8x, the quality drops, and it's noisier/muddy compared to the photo from the 3XL shot at 7x.

I find that the screen on the 3XL - while cooler then the 4XL - is more consistent at varying viewing angles. The screen on the 4XL looks richer and more saturated, but I can't tell if that's just because it's a warmer display.

I do not like the lack of a fingerprint reader, but I've said that before. Nor do I like that you can unlock the phone with your eyes closed. Face unlock is fast though - most times. There have been a few occasions where the phone didn't really know what to do. But even if it worked perfectly, none of the apps I use that had fingerprint support have face unlock support. So I feel like this was a major downgrade in functionality at this time.

Had I purchased this phone to replace my 3XL, I would not be happy with the price paid. Thankfully, this was a work upgrade. I'm hoping the 5XL is more ground breaking. The 4 just feels like a slightly upgraded 3XL. I think Google is keeping the 3XL price high to push people to the 4XL, but there are still deals to be had on the 3XL if you're switching providers. My girlfriend decided on the 3XL, and she's getting it through Verizon (switching from AT&T, finally) - they have a trade in deal going where she can get $300 for her OG Pixel XL - which is way more then the thing is worth. That drops the 3XL down to $228 ($9.50/mo for 24 months) - which is a steal IMO.

tl;dr - The 4XL would be great if it were a $500 phone. There are better phones on the market for the price they're currently charging.

Update - the Verizon rep misquoted the pricing for the 3XL, so it turned out that she's not eligible for the $340 trade. So my girlfriend ended up with the 4XL due to the deals available. She's spending $14/mo, so in total she's paying $336 for the phone.

So if you were in my position in having a P2XL, would you drop $700 on a P4XL or $535 on a P3XL? If I go P3 then I'll basically be waiting for the P6. Other option is to just do nothing until the 5 hits next fall but I really want the extra frequency band.

for those of you with newer phones or current models (2019)... does the Facebook Messenger app crash on you from time to time?
