I wonder how much trouble Lucic is going to be in for plowing over Miller...?
Trolling Canuckistan
1st Lucic has the right to go for the puck, he's not a great skater and when he lost the puck he put his head down and picked up as much steam as he could to go after if. When his head came up there wasn't much time to react, to me after seeing him barrel over a few people in his career, it looked like he was trying to protect his face more than completely run Miller.
2nd, this whole Miller suffered a concussion on the play thing is absolute BS. Miller has played like shit all season and there is a goaltender controversy in Buffalo because his back up has played much better. Miller played another 26+ minutes of Hockey after his supposed concussion before he was pulled. He was also knocked hard into the back of the net when one of his own players shoved Seguin into him. That was the last hit Miller took before being pulled so how can they say Miller was concussed on the Lucic hit and not the collision with Seguin? Probably because that collision was caused by Millers own team so that doesn't help them get the retribution they want.
I really think this Miller as a concussion thing is just a way to allow him to save face while being replaced by his backup who has been playing like the number 1 goalie as well as try to force Shanny's hand with supplemental discipline. If Lucic is suspended b/c there was an injury on the play, Buffalo should be fined heavily as a team for not following NHL protocol in sending Miller to the "quiet room" and allowing him to play another 26+ minutes with a brain injury.
If he is truly in charge of player safety and he believes Miller suffered the concussion on the Lucic hit he should consider that Millers own team put him in serious danger and fine them as well.

Kings solved their lack of scoring problems: Penner on the IR will do amazingly positive things to your lineup.

The league should wake up and limit the "not fair game" rules on goaltenders.
If you are gonna cruse all the way out to the circles and limit the play, you should be fair game.
I'm not sure where exactly to "draw the line" as to where and where they are not fair game, but it's ridiculous that a goalie can go anywhere in any situation and is never fair game.

No suspension for Lucic...
I thought it could have been a lot worse if he actually wanted to hit Miller and dropped the shoulder. To me it looked like Lucic pulled up at the last second to brace himself, but I am not sure if he would have had the time to actually side step and avoid any contact. It was a pretty quick play, so it's hard to judge.

While I agree it's frustrating at times, you have to try to protect goaltenders. That said, when they roam that far out in a breakaway situation, there's always going to be the chance for incidental contact which is allowed in the rulebook. You can't expect someone to just give up on a puck they think they can get to first simply because the goaltender left his crease to play it. It's just like any other puck race except it usually involves 2 people racing to the same spot from opposite directions which can have some interesting results. There's a reason they don't race that way in NASCAR, Lucic and Miller provided a good demonstration as to why.
Trolling Canuckistan
Just pointing out how it's obvious that big collisions are going to happen when races occur to the same destination from opposite directions. That's what the incidental contact is and why goalies can't expect to come that far out in that type of situation and force the other player to just give up on the puck race.

:admiralackbarvoice: It's a Trap!
http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/20...-rule-changes/
The N.H.L.’s general managers will convene at a suburban Toronto hotel Tuesday for their annual fall meeting to debate whether a rule change is needed to limit the neutral-zone trap, after exactly one mildly controversial game.
The trapping debate could divert general managers’ attention from matters many would consider more important, like a measure to adopt no-touch icing, after a serious injury early this season.
The general managers cannot formally propose rule changes at the meeting. Those proposals are made when the general managers reconvene in March, but the fall meeting is when they decide which matters to study and revisit in the spring.
The trapping issue emerged last Wednesday at Tampa Bay, when the Philadelphia Flyers refused to advance the puck against the Lightning’s 1-3-1 trap. The Lightning, in turn, refused to forecheck, so on several occasions totaling about four minutes of playing time, a Flyers defenseman stood motionless in his own zone with the puck while four Lightning players stood motionless at their various stations in the neutral zone and a fifth stood idle deep in his own zone.
It was a tactical standoff, brief and somewhat amusing, in a single game, but it drew plenty of attention.
“I think it’s been called an embarrassing moment,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday on his radio show. “We play 1,230 regular-season games, and in the course of seasons played things happen that are unusual, teams will do things that are unpredictable and unexpected.”
Yet despite the singularity of the event, there will be discussion among the 30 general managers on Tuesday about whether something should be done about the trap. The focus may be on Lightning Coach Guy Boucher’s 1-3-1 trap, which is slightly different from the 1-2-2 used by other teams.
One idea being talked about is a proposal to allow icing if a defending team goes into a passive 1-3-1.
