Back in NY. Too bad we lost the WC but it was fun, even with the rain. I'll try and put my pics up tonite.

Picked up a Malkin WC jersey and got two new hats.

It definitely was odd weather, it was close to 60 deg when I got to the game, I brought gloves, 2 winter hats, and a scarf, and never wore the gloves or second hat, and had my sleaves rolled up the entire game. It really felt like October instead of January. I enjoyed the night game, but had they pushed the game to Sunday it would have been low 30's and sunny

Interesting.

http://blogs.canoe.ca/sportszone/gen...egs-in-ottawa/

This story is making the rounds with hockey pool: Word is, general manager Bryan Murray tried to fire coach Cory Clouston about a month ago. The Senators owner, Eugene Melynyk, wouldn’t let it happen. That story came to light in the wake of Ottawa’s 5-1 home defeat to the dreadful Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Normally, after those kind of games, coaches get fired. But to date, no coach firing in Ottawa.

And there probably won’t be one until the end of the season.

The story going around is that Melynyk told Murray and if Clouston goes, he might as well go with him. Murray has already been through a bevy of coaches, including Craig Hartsburg andJohn Paddock. Apparently, Clouston will be his last coach. Unless Melynyk had a change of heart.

But expect this: Murray and Clouston both gone at the end of the season.

Winter Classic posts ratings increase

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/winter...ory?id=5985198
NEW YORK -- The Winter Classic was the most-viewed NHL regular-season game in 36 years, the NHL said Monday.

An average of 4.5 million viewers tuned in to the game, despite the fact it was postponed to Saturday night because of rain -- the most viewers for a regular-season game since 1975, the league said.

The Washington Capitals' 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins outdoors at the Steelers' Heinz Field earned a 2.3 rating and 4 share on NBC. That's a 10 percent increase from a 2.1/4 for last year's overtime game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins at Fenway Park.

The start of the NHL's New Year's Day game was delayed from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The move to prime time meant more people were watching TV at that hour. But it also made for more competition, not to mention the confusion of viewers who might not have known the game was on.

By contrast, college football's Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, running opposite the Winter Classic on ESPN, drew 10.8 million viewers (with a 6.2 rating). The Rose Bowl, which ended about the time the hockey game began, drew an 11.3 rating and 20.6 million viewers.

It's probably because the stakes are so high but it seems every moment of the Canada - US game is life or death. Very exciting game, even at 3-0. Flip over to Leafs and Bruins and I can barely stay awake.

Lots of defensive breakdowns by the US in the 1st and 2nd. Canada has really been hitting hard and crashing the net, they look good! Thought this Scheen kid was supposed to be good? Is he playing tonight?

Weird start to the second period, seemed like they were gonna let the kids play then the penalties at the beginning of the second

I guess you mean Marcus Foligno?

I was wondering about that myself. His brother played for the US. But both parents are Canadians. Says they were born in Buffalo but where did they grow up? If it was Buffalo then he should be on the US team. Then again he may have grown up or played most of his hockey in Canada? Not sure.

Dude...I live in the city where there's absolutely dick all to do but go to a dumb oversized mall or complain about the farm-like NHL team they ice here.

Yeah, I think the Juniors is a big deal...

Probably even a bigger deal than over in TO considering the absolute lack of things to do...

Work...and then met the wife here. So, pretty much anchored here.

Actually I think you have told me that before and I forgot. Your own fault for moving there but what more can you ask of a city than the love of your life?

Your wife, not your robot collection.

Well, Waldorf...the team you said can't make it past the 1st round of the playoffs just SWEPT yours...

And Crawford, the no name goalie, makes a nice save on Kopitar in the dying seconds to preserve the lead. And yup...the greatest captain in the League? He scores the GWG...

Canada was on a mission for sure

and 4.5 mil viewers for the WC is impressive, that means 4.5 mil people saw me on TV in the first period

This quote on last nights game put it best:

In a proverbial sense, Kings coach Terry Murray stood in the tee box, watching his team’s ball slowly, steadily and fatefully hook into the water hazard once again.
In a nutshell: The Kings are their own worst enemy.

Kings V Hawks in a boxing match: Kings are beating the Hawks to a bloody pulp. The Hawks vision is slowly fading to black...it's almost over....then, out of nowhere, the Kings just fall to the floor.....out cold. Hawks win the fight.

The first period was definitely all Kings. Crawford was the reason why it was 1-0 for your team early...

I was kinda stunned how Chicago crawled back...but, the 2nd and 3rd was pretty even-keeled.

And I just knew that after Toews' high-sticking call led to a penalty and Smyth's tying goal...the Captain would repay the team somehow.

All I've gotta say is your team is 0-4 versus Da Champs. They are getting there and clearly are a good team...but, they need to know how to beat Chicago before they can say they are ready for the full dance.
