The new WRX and STi look way better than the old ones. Far less boy racer and interior is much better. WRX is a great value though I'm not so sure about the STi. At $40k or more, it's hard to justify that kind of money for a 300hp sedan when you can snag an M235i for not a whole lot more money.

A GTI for $35k is ludicrous. Would not buy it for that kind of money. It has always been a "performance bargain" but not really anymore for that kind of coin. A Focus ST is $5-7k less than that for a fully loaded example and the 2015 model looks really nice...

FWIW, I'd wait for the new MS3, Focus RS, etc. If the Golf R wagon comes to the US then fvck the rest, I'm buying that one.

Yep. the GTI and R have high price tags due to their "high quality interior."

I'll be 100% satisfied with a WRX Base or Premium and about $10k in cash for here and there.

The Impreza's interior quality improved significantly with the last generation. That's not saying much, but I certainly wouldn't put the newer ones in the same category as the bugeye Subarus.

i think for $25k, you can't do much better than a WRX sedan.
Yup. If I didn't get my BRZ, I would be in a WRX. My loyalties don't lie with any particular company, but the WRX is just a good car all around. The STI is a tougher sell, but it has much more technology.

There was a weird time frame of how I saw the STI/Evo. In high school, it was omgmusthaz. In college I slowly grew away from those cars, and now with the "softer" Evo X and 2015 STI, I like them again. A lot.

with 6mt available on the WRX vs. 5speed in the previous gens. It does not take much for WRX to get to STi's performance level.

I think Subaru kinda messed it up for the STi because they made the regular WRX look and perform too much like STi now with the standard wide body and all the other things that used to be made exclusive for STi

I would unload all my money if the WRX looked like the concept.

There's much more to it than just the engine and transmission. Though at this point, I wouldn't get the STI with its current engine.

I'm really surprised by the lack of 2-series on dealer lots. In most cases dealers have a couple M235i or 228i Lux models. There seem to be very few 228i M-Sport or Sportlines around me.

I did find a 2014 (new) 228i M-Sport 8AT near me for $5500 off sticker. But that is the only M-Sport 228i I could find under $45K.

What more to it is there with the STi than the WRX other than the engine and transmission? By that I mean what is there that the average consumer would care about?

$40k is an insane amount to charge for that car these days. For that price it should have an extra 50-100hp and a far nicer interior.

I'm not at all surprised.

Most people going to BMW these days are no longer looking for performance or fun, they are looking for the badge and because of that they sell oodles of 320, 328, and 528 models but not much else. A 2 door coupe is not what the average person wants from BMW these days.

if you really want that car, why don't you fly down to So cal and get the car and drive it back?

There are A LOT down here.

Driving a car back from SoCal to Maryland could be a bit problematic

That's a hell of a break in period though

Actually, I went and looked it up and the transmissions are actually different. STI can handle more power, of course. Cable linkage for the WRX and rod actuated for the STI. And of course, the electronically-controlled center diff on the STI. As well as LSDs front and rear. The WRX doesn't have any of that, but still handles really well. STI just does it even better.

For the average consumer, yes there isn't much the STI offers over the WRX. Which is why I agree with the sentiment that for $25k, the WRX is hard to beat.

With the 228i, a Dinan tune will get you to nearly 300bhp and 330tq.

You have to wonder if the bulk of stang buyers are still flocking to the v6 slushie.

Most of the cars on the lots right now are EB autos and GT Premiums. Lots of EB Performance Package Autos actually. Some dealers have a half dozen V6 autos as value leaders but the GTs are usually PP over $42K.

With JB4, DP and a full catback, 228i are around 270hp and 300+ torque to the wheel.

It will run circles around M235i and 335i considering a stock 228 is already a mid 13' car.

The 300hp at the wheel doesn't mean much without a base #.

Here is a graph shows his base line at 190 and 277 before exhaust.

Yeah.

Unless a person is going to track the car, he should just get a WRX and call it a day.

I've seen 2 V6 autos at my school so far. I've seen like 11-12 of the new stangs total around town.

Same - Not even on a transporter or anything. I really want to see one in the wild, everyone says it looks much better than it does in pics.
