And to find a clean AP2 will NOT be cheap. haha also, there's a reason why 9/10 S2K track cars have a front splitter and a GT wing in the back. They NEED those.
I know that they don't come cheap and that's partially why I want one. Something that'll be a future collector car.
Yep, I have and loved it. It's a challenge but it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. The S2k is the right balance of fun and speed for me and the convertible is a huge plus. Not looking for downright speed but just something fun to drive.

I just love love love love S2K, but every time I had a chance to buy one, I just couldn't do it due to lack of its size inside. It's just too small inside. You basically need a second car that's comfy.
Even on the regular street when you like to turn a little faster without any cars around, it will give you all the confidence until it will just snap on you. So you actually have to learn the "snapping point" and prepare to counter BEFORE it shows any signs of over steering.
and driving in the rain = BRZ with prius tires.
But all these stuff is what makes s2000 so special. Cars like S2000 and BRZ will actually make you a better driver if you can survive the first few years.

I have DDed 2 s2000 for 6 years. You will know why it is not an easy car to drive after you have it for a while, but i would not want it any differently.

I think you are totally missing my point, but I get what you are saying too.

) with 4ft behind the truck and 7ft in front of it. The two car space is bigger by 4 feet in depth and obviously one more car in width. I still DD my TLS for the time being and it'll serve as a rain/winter/long distance car.I'm sorry you had to endure such pain. There are support groups for people going through the same thing. Let me know if you'd like contact info but I hear they meet every night at the bad.
There's no bait. How you can have such a differing view of the car from everyone...esp. when it's not exactly a run-of-the-mill car (it's a Honda S2000) is well, bizarre.
So, hence my theory. Again, no bait.

The newer ones got this more under control though no? I understand that it didn't completely eliminate the issue but the AP2 is way better than the AP1 in terms of snap oversteer. Adding some wider tires in the rear should help the issue too.
WTF? How does one manage this unless being an idiot? I get that they can spin on the track at high cornering speeds but going straight on a freeway?
AP2 V1 - Not forgiving
AP2 V2+ - Acceptable
i had gone sideways going straight at like 30mph.... it was for a good 2-3 secs. Didn't know how it happened but it did.
I have gotten sideways in an AP1. It oversteers easily if you want, though it is not made to drift. I've seen people masterfully recover while driving one (autocross). Not to say it's easy though. Like the MR2, if you aren't used to the car it will make you look like an idiot.
I would personally go for an 06+ just because of the Hondata compatibility. The other things can be tweaked with.
I've said this before... if they released a successor to the S2000 that somehow improved on it, I'd probably be driving that right now. The little things, I'd hopefully just deal with.

Now that doesn't make sense. Were you in the upper RPM range? Dry/wet?

it was easily corrected just by lifting the gas pedal and it was not in the upper RPM... 30mph... so i guess in 2nd gear.
Yeah I wouldn't bother getting an s2000 without VDC. A friend of mine ended up buying a white 2008 model and he was all about wanting to get an AP1 because he didn't want the drivers aids at all. Well he end up settling on one with them and he's so happy he did.
I've driven both of his cars extensively- I don't like his G35 because the VDC kicks in as soon as you slip even a bit. The s2000 lets you play a hell of a lot more before it catches you. It's very nice.
Also, wouldn't wider rear tires help control the car a bit better?
Finally, the s2000 isn't all that light. It weighs about 300 pounds more than an NC Miata, and I fit WAY better in a Miata. The s2000 would be a coffin for me if I ever got hit. It was the only reason I've never bought one

S2000 is bigger than Miata both in and out.
AP2 comes with 245 rear.. which is wide enough for a car like s2000.
Honestly, the Traction Control in 2006+ really does not help much. Like you said it does not really kick it until it is probably too late.
my favorite is 2004-2005... good compromise.

No, she's not an Ariel Atom or KTM X-Bow...but, you get the idea.

- the AP1 is known for its twitchiness.

2800lbs is still light.
