Just fixed the shutter button on my 30D. I followed the howto from the vid below.
It all went well except for the part where I electrocuted myself on the capacitor for the built-in flash. I now have a pin-point burn on my fingertip. It feels ok and their is no pain, but we will keep a close eye on it.

A working shutter button is a great thing. Now I can actually get back to shooting landscape instead of portrait using my battery grip all the time.

When I pressed the button it would AF, but would not release the shutter. If I pressed really hard and wiggled the button it would release... It is just dirty contacts on the button - a mechanical issue.

If both are gone on yours I would suspect electronics, not mechanical.

hhehe, never understood why people would buy them.

i guess thou if they lost theirs and are selling the equipment that goes with the box, it might make it more appealing to a buyer

All you need for a good time:
- Three copies of CS4
- 36GB ECC DDR3
- 6TB of storage

Unfortunately, none of it is for me... advertising guys always get the fun toys.

My boss shot me down on CS4 Design Premium upgrade for over a year due to it being too expensive and not in the budget. Went to a conference in February and saw one of our business development/marketing guys I hadn't seen in years. He asked what I need and that he'll get it for me, so I said CS4 Master Collection and a week later it was on my desk.

ugh, I'm REALLY tempted on this:

$250 for all 3 days at the Long Beach Grand Prix with access to "photo spots". I would think it puts you closer to the track.

I came in here to task everyone where you and the missus had gone to!...

Dan, I need to find a place to print a picture I took (local would be the best, but not necessary). Any questions to ask to know if it's a good place or not?

Original (Raw) file is 10.6 MB and is 3888x2592. Any thoughts on how large I can go without losing quality?

Re: newer high ISO cameras

just from looking at a set of club pictures, I was able to tell it was a 5D2. I don't think that's a good thing.

I think the first thing to ask is what kind of printer and paper they're using. There is a ton of variety in papers out there and the printer they use will also affect your final print. Another sign that you're dealing with a good shop is if they'll provide you with ICC profiles for proofing. It's at least showing you that they take things seriously.

I just printed a 24"x24" on canvas with a 9MP file and it looks great. Canvas does tend to hide some flaws though, so you can generally get away with printing larger than you normally would on semigloss. I typically don't like to go below 180ppi for semigloss, which would make for a 14"x21" print from your file. If you're going to be viewing it from a little farther away, feel free to print as big as you'd like. Don't forget that when you add a matte and frame, the final picture will be about 5" to 6" wider and taller than your printed image.

HLL's 7D arrived today. It's still in the box because he wants to wait until we get home tonight when he can take his time...don't know where that patience comes from. It baffles me!

Thinking some more, these are clearly not BAD things because the pictures look great, it just bugs me that the camera is identifiable. But, I could say the same thing for the 5D1, especially for architecture shots, they have a certain look and feel to them. Maybe its just because I have one. I don't know, I just would rather have an "anonymous" and unidentifiable look on shots.

Hmm, I guess I kind of see what you're saying. I *don't* want anonymous shots, but I can see where you'd want them identified by the artist's eye and even PP, rather than the camera. Although, some lenses certainly leave their stamps, too, and I don't regard that as a negative.

to elaborate on what I said earlier, seems like its only the 5D2 (and 5D for certain scenes) - I can't "tell" with the 7D, or D300, or D700, D3... etc

Or even better, maybe he works for the state, to ensure that all public places have proper wheel chair access for the dissabled..... GOTA SAY THOUGH... MAJOR FAIL for trying to be UNDERCOVER... LOL

House season finale shot entirely with Canon 5DmkII

I got this info from Petapixel.com. I have been in contact with House director Greg Yaitanes to try to get a nice in depth interview but no joy as yet! Like you I have many questions as to how that got past the issues ox X,Y,Z. Many of which we encountered whilst shooting on DSLRs for Lucasfilm last month. But first this is the house news…

The season finale of the popular TV show House, which will air on May 17th, was filmed entirely with the Canon 5D Mark II. cinema5D overheard the plan last month and Greg Yaitanes, the director of the show, has confirmed it through a tweet in which we made himself open to questions.
Again thanks to Petapixel.com for this.
Here are some of the Q+A from twitter.

Personally I cannot wait until May 17th. This will be a big day for Canon DSLR users like myself.

Interesting that they used Canon lenses. That is what we used mostly ourselves, although there are some very cool looking new Leica and Zeiss lenses coming out for the Canons soon. I myself had a chance to use the Zeiss CP2s on set and very nice they are too.

I am itching to know how they got past some of the major 5DmkII issues I had whilst shooting a large project for Lucasfilm, we ended up using the 1DmkIV mostly due to the HD monitor out of that camera. I will be blogging about that as soon as I can.

On the plane to Vegas yesterday I had a very long discussion with the owner of a high end rental company in London and understandably when i told him I specialise in DSLRs he was not best pleased!

Don’t forget…this is a show that has been shot on 35mm film until now…this is a bloody big deal!

If I manage to get an interview with Greg I will post it here of course!
