No man that's not the message. From me, at least. Just wondering whether something has changed - can I assume you are interested in photo again, then?

for fun I bid on a Nikon F5 a week ago, it started out at $65. I figured for around that price, would be fun. But I didn't really have any plan for what to do with it - let alone a lens for it. Well it ended up going for $442. that thing is a beast!

I stopped paying attention around the $100 mark lol... I had no idea what these were going for, I figured if it was cheap enough might be cool to have what people say is the best film SLR ever made (for that class, at least). Looking after the fact, I see they are going for as high as 1k.. heh
btw shooting my first paid gig for a magazine tomorrow, at the Cycle World Motorcycle Show. I'm specifically there for the model competition Excited! its for 2-wheel-tuner mag.

Unless you plan to shoot black and white and develop yourself, forget a film camera.

I shoot people
walking around Vancouver the last couple days, I've notice a lot of people with dSLR's... mostly entry models... but it bothers me that a lot of them don't even bother to buy a filter for their lens... Yeah, I know it's just the kit lens... but still... c'mon

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
I did a quick extraction of search terms used throughout 2009 to reach photos on my flickr photostream. Then I ran it through wordle and got this visualization...
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ep_jhu/4411893507/" title="2009 Referring Search Terms by ep_jhu, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4411893507_eb6b50fdb6.jpg" width="500" height="328" alt="2009 Referring Search Terms" /></a>
So if you want your photos to gain exposure on the internets, tag them with girl, gun, or sexy. Shocking, I know.

Big Block go VROOOM!
Some quotes from David duChemin's recent blog post.
http://www.pixelatedimage.com/blog/2...-a-pro-really/
I often leave my ISO dangerously high. I get more email about why I shot something at ISO 800 than anything else and that tells me (a) I should get my act together and (b) y’all need to lighten up on the whole ISO issue.
I have more confidence in my ability to hand-hold a shot at 1/30 than I ought to have and still have yet to learn from this. You’d think with my ridiculously high ISOs and my total unwillingness to close my aperture, I’d have plenty of latitude with this, but you’d be wrong.
I get emails about colour-calibration and printing methods and am forced to reply with a vague, “go ask Vincent Versace”...
People ask me about how to use their flash in two groups balanced with ambient and I stare awkwardly at them and give them Joe McNally’s email address or home phone number and beg them to (a) never tell Joe I sent them and (b) never to speak of this ever again.
I hate the word bokeh. A pro ought to be able to use that word with a straight face, I just feel like I’m trying too hard. My images don’t so much have bokeh as large sections of fuzzy bits.
I still shoot twenty frames before realizing that the EV compensation I cranked up is still cranked up and I’ve hopelessly lost good images to the blinkies.

I don't really know what to make of his quotes. Because, I think generally, the more you do something, the better you get at it. So when he says he forgets and leaves EV comp cranked, I don't know. That's something you learn pretty quickly to check, if you are doing a new set of photos. Sure you make mistakes, but if you're not learning from them? I don't know. It almost sounds like he's saying he doesn't even care about how he takes pictures, he just points and shoots, and whatever he gets, he takes. I find it odd because I think the whole point of doing "professional" photography is knowing what settings, lens, and body to use for any given situation. I mean look at the Judge Brown video, that's what's going on there as well. So if you go by what duChemin is saying, I don't know, I don't know what that means. Maybe he is just burnt out and doesn't care anymore.
cliffs: I don't know what his quotes mean.

I think there are plenty of pro photogs that just point shoot and whatever they get, they take. In particular, I remember seeing interviews with Winogrand, who had a similar attitude. If you want amusing and interesting quotes about photography, check him out!

I guess what they are trying to say is don't take it so seriously? Maybe.
Maybe you can't compare it to something like weddings; if you go to a wedding and arrive unprepared, f*cking around with stuff, shooting from the hip, etc. you could have some problems. Maybe these guys are talking more about "art" type of photography, I mean look at the picture in the link above, it's an artsy kind of style.

Alot of pro photogs I've met are like that, they don't care so much about the settings but more of the final image cause in the end that's what makes their paycheck.

final image meaning, after post-processing?
#1037
A lot of PJ's and sportsshooters, shoot jpeg and take many shots, to make up for bad comp and exposure. They get one or two of out many, post doesn't matter.
