and, I dont mind buying like a 35 1.8 for the D5000. I think that lens would keep me happy for a good while, and pretty cheap. I want a small solution to take lots of candid and random people pics. at parties and stuff.

I have heard nothing bad about it, would rather have 35mm on crop than the 50mm that I have for full frame. And $200 why not at least try it.

I wasn't thinking about that, but since you did. This guy is a damn ass.

I was talking about letting that equipment go for hundreds of dollars less than he could have gotten.

The SB900 is almost $500 new, the SB 600 about $225 new and the SB800 used $300+.

I would have bought the D5000, but it doesn't have finger and thumb controls, just thumb.

on another note, ive been reading the tons of threads on the 70-200 2.8 IS mkII

and man, some of the examples people are posting comparing it between the mkI and mkII,
pretty significant difference, at least in sharpness wide open at 200mm..

now whether that increase in sharpness is worth 1000 dollars

Yea he went to the camera store and said that he get that much for camera stuff from the owner but my friend and his coworkers were like hey will buy it off you cuz the owners just going sell it for more and the guy didn't care.

he bought a 5dmk II earlier in the month and picked up a 7d
also sold his d90 and 18-200 and sb900 to my friends co worker for 1000.

It has a newer sensor than the D300, it first showed up in the D90, then the D5000, then D300s. I've not compared or seen pictures, I think Rockwell is a joke.

I don't know if I can ever travel to a new place again. Like, another state, or country, or whatever. I feel like I'd just be taking pictures all the time. And be focused on that. That being said, am I really enjoying BEING THERE? I don't know? All I see is pictures. If I see something new, I wanna take pictures of it. I wanna frame it, compose it, get closeups, try different angles, etc etc. God help anyone who is traveling with me.

I know what you mean it has kind of eaten away how i do things sometimes ill just leave the camera in the car when out with friends because i'm off playing with the camera than really having a good time with friends. People who do photo or video can understand more that you have to focus alot but your friends just feel like your in your own world haha.

yeah and its weird because people tend to think I'm not having a good time when I'm taking pics - I actually am having a good time, but conversely, I'm kind of ignoring them. I mean, I'm not having any real conversation with them, I am in my own world taking pics. It's a rather selfish activity.

Yes it is i'm shooting at night clubs in nyc just small places for the promoters, and i have a blast my friend said its not that fun to their eyes, but you get to have small chit chat and try some new things shooting in the club.

I try to talk in between but its hard, the phtographer i'm interning now is quite good at shooting the model and talking about life haha maybe ill get some practice there.

Im not even talking about clubs or gigs - I do see those as "solo" type of things where you may talk business with some people here and there, flash some smiles to appropriate people, things like that. Im talking about regular daily activities that you would go to with friends. Outside of "work" type photography.

I know what you mean about capturing the moment versus enjoying being in the moment. I struggle with that, too. I force myself to go places without the camera for just that reason, sometimes. To ensure that I really engage in what I'm doing, whether it's a hike, a festival, walking around downtown...I think it's important. I make the deal with myself that I'm not allowed to beat myself up if something visually amazing happens and I can't capture it. It's just about being there at those times.

I admit that it's hard, though, and I probably don't do that as often as I should.

That's totally a part of it too. I don't want to "miss" anything. Even more so if I was on a special trip somewhere. Maybe I need to sign some kind of pact with myself before I go, telling myself I will not kick myself if I miss shots. And to try and enjoy the experience and not just think about pictures.

I'm looking through my dad's pictures from India (they go every year or two) and I picture myself being there with my camera (I've gone many times but never with my own camera - last time was in '96) - if I didn't stop myself, I would just be taking photos non-stop, everywhere we went - there is ALWAYS something to take a photo of.

He has a Nikon P90 so excuse the quality. He doesn't like lugging big camera around. And, he doesn't ask me for camera advice. (I woulda prolly told him to get a Panny Pen or Lumix LX3.. S90.. something like that)

look at the detail on this temple..

street monkeys, you can give em food, even pet them if you're bold enough

after it dries it comes off, leaving a red color on the skin

look at this church - I would probably spend like an afternoon there!
